Treat for EPL fans

PETALING JAYA: Local football fans of the English Premier League (EPL) are in for a fantastic treat in July!

Three of the Big Four of the EPL – Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool – will be in town for a 10-day EPL Festival. However, the exact dates have yet to be confirmed.

Football fans can look forward to seeing the likes of Frank Lampard, Fernando Torres and David Luiz (Chelsea); Cesc Fabregas, Samir Nasri and Robin van Persie (Arsenal); and Steven Gerrard, Raul Meireles and Luis Suarez (Liverpool) in action.

The three teams will take on the national side on three different dates in July. rclxms.gif

Manchester United, who make up the Big Four, enjoyed two hugely successful visits here in 2001 and 2009.

This will be the first time that three top English clubs will be in town since the inaugural FAPL Asia Cup in 2003. Then, the teams who came were Birmingham, Newcastle and Chelsea.

Liverpool, Chelsea to Play in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR, March 22 (Bernama) -- World renown English Premier League (EPL) clubs Liverpool and Chelsea are expected to play friendly matches against the national squad during their Far East Asian Tour in July.

Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) secretary-general Datuk Azzuddin Ahmad said FAM had received the green light from both clubs while the dates for both matches would be announced soon.

"There is also a big possibility that another EPL club will be coming here for a friendly match against the national team. That prospect is still in the discussion stage," he told reporters here Tuesday.

Azzuddin said the dates for the matches between Liverpool and Chelsea would only be three to four days apart and both matches would be played at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil.

"We have had discussions with the National Sports Complex and the management are receptive of the idea," he said.

Though Chelsea has been here a number of times, Liverpool's visit to Malaysia will be the first, since the last planned match against Selangor in 2008 was cancelled.

I think the support Liverpool will receive will be massive, despite them having never visited. It recent years, the team and visited Singapore twice and Thailand once back when Michael Owen, Robbie Fowler and Jamie Redknapp were still in the side. During these visits, there were a fair amount of Malaysian fans that made the trek. I'll bet my bottom dollar that this time round, you'll see an influx of fans from our two neighbouring countries. The Singapore Liverpool's Supporters Club and the East of Anfield Supporters Club are probably already planning for it. The turnout in 2009 when Liverpool visited Singapore was massive with plenty of "Alonso, please stay" banners, amongst a sea of other banners. Reminded me a little of Istanbul. Some friends of mine went during the previous visit to Singapore. They found out where the team was staying and camped there. Went to the bar and found Sammy Lee, Phil Thompson and some of the other coaching staff having drinks. They chatted and took some photos. They went back again the next day after the game and the whole team plus players were having a party. My friends tried to go in but was told by the manager that it was a closed party. Thankfully, Sammy Lee recognised them from the night before and told the manager to let them in. What a top bloke. It's why I like that he's back in the fold. The gesture was very Shanklyesque. No doubt a tradition that has been passed down by the great man.

I'm amped and I'm expecting a big turnout. Demographically, Liverpool fans are generally older and I can only imagine how long they've been waiting to watch the team play in the flesh. I'm sure the LSCM will work together with the official club in Singapore (or maybe not) but MyRAWK will endevour to further enrichen our ties with the East of Anfield Supporters Club in Singapore by jointly organising ticket purchases so everyone can sit together. Pretty sure the Liverbirds guys from JB will stop at nothing to make the journey up. They also have members in Kuantan and Kedah. Mad fellas drove 3 hrs up from JB for the Masters and left right after. That's a lot of travelling.

I doubt ticket prices will be released too early as the clubs are still working on securing sponsors.

The picture below shows Singapore's attempt to emulate the Kop.

I just came back from Anfield for the stadium tour but i couldn't get to see the reds play as there were no games there (went before the Braga game). Now i can fulfill my wishes by getting to see them play here in Malaysia. What a year this is becoming for me!!!

they already here, 2 seasons ago, playing twice..

this is a good opportunity for Malaysian player. but TBH i prefer them to had a frequent friendly match to Asian giants football nation like Japan, Korea, middle east nations. its hard to get the opportunity though, financial -wise and our ranking sweat.gif .

yap.. even asian non giants are ditching our friendly request...... shakehead.gif

This kinda matches are more like a circus exhibition for me. i would rather value the A Ranked friendly vs Hong Kong the other day more...

but i agree that even in pre-season, some of these foreign players's skill valued more than 50mil ringgit ... so it will be a good competitive spar with us.. to prepare for the gruelling world cup and olympic qualifying second round..

and some of football fans in Malaysia who never grace a football stadium before can finally be able to do so...

First and foremost this is an exhibition match and yes, the intention is obviously to swell the fanbase and to profit from it. It is expected that these matches will not test each teams resolve. Premiere League players will all be told to go easy and not risk injury. You will get of course your over exhuberant local player looking to prove a point. It happens all the time. That being said, we don't go to these games expecting good football. We go primarily to see the stars we worship in the flesh.

i actually agrees with all your points, actually. Some of yours also agrees with mine.

i just want to add that by their standards, even by going easy and not risking injury, they should be able to put dominance over us. its happens all the time. it will be a challenge for our local lads to be exuberant to prove a point. Which happens quite regularly lately, but does not happens all the time in the past.

i also will not go to these matches expecting good football either. And frankly speaking i also hope our lads go easy and not risk injury either,.. we have much more important World Cup and Olympic qualifying matches around that time...

We already lost Khyrill Muhymeen and Zaquan due too international friendly injuries. Doubts still remain whether both will return as the same players again... Thats kinda OK because its a rank A friendlies. But to lose other players also for profit-oriented private functions will be a blow..

I can only imagine what it must mean to the local lads as well. I'm sure that they are fans of some of the visiting players if not teams. How would you choose to play if you were asked to mark your idol? Would you play full steam ahead, knowing very well you could injure the dude? Would you let him walk over you. I guess that's where your status as a professional comes into play and you do what you have to do to stop whoever you're up against. Ah well, I'm just going to have a good time in the end. Don't really care about the result in the end.

off the field, they might be a fan, but on the field it will be every man for himself.. idol or not, self pride will be more important than your idol's pride... if the idols are as good as people pays them, they should be able to walk over us without breaking a sweat... its a challenge to the local players to prove people that expected them to fail, wrong... especially this batch of players... they showed that did not overawed by MU last the.. i expect the same vs Liverpool and Chelsae...

the best way to show respect to your idol is to show that we can be better than him.... not by helping him to look good on our expense... beside, judging from displays during the EPL masters, i dont think the foreigners are respecting the locals a lot.. fan or no fan..

although i will not be surprised if they become over-exuberant on the first match and became too flat out for the second...

no definate dates yet... with the result of the draws, some doubts some of the matches will even happen ..... or the will come but will not be facing RG's team... maybe just a malaysian selection under OKS that will not feature all the stars from Rg's team..

My sister and her husband were there at that time. He really enjoyed it.

MU have came over quite a number of times already but I haven't been to any yet. I just don't know who to support laugh.gif

Like I said earlier, it's confirmed but they are sorting sponsorship issues out. They can't announce prices before then but tickets should range from about RM 50 - RM 150 depending on which tier. Expect everything to be confirmed 2nd half of this month.

bad news for EPL fans. KBS will not delay track renovation at Std Bukit Jalil eventhough FAM willing to pay the 500k penalty. This means the match will be held at Shah Alam.

Which means further view, hectic parking, no public trasport and less capacity which also probaply means higher priced tickets....

KBS tak setuju hasrat FAM

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Darn, it's closer to me but access is crap man. Wonder what important meets Shabery is talking about. When was the last time we read of a big track competition in Bukit Jalil? I bet my bottom dollar, the visit of these 3 teams will draw in more visitors than any meet we have planned. Oh well, go early, clock in some time on the go-kart track prior I suppose.

Chelsea Kick Off Ticket Sales from May 20

QUOTE
2011-05-18

Kuala Lumpur - Exciting news for all football fans as they will have an opportunity to get a free commemorative Chelsea Football Club training pass when they purchase tickets for the Malaysia XI vs Chelsea match at selected adidas outlets nationwide from May 20-29 while stocks last.

Prices for the tickets range from RM58, RM68, RM108 and limited VIP tickets at RM388.

Organised by the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM), the Malaysia XI vs Chelsea FC match, will be held at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil at 8.45pm on Thursday, July 21 2011. The official match sponsors include adidas, Astro, One World and Naza World.

"In 2008, we had 55,000 football fans come and watched an excellent and an exciting game of football. We expect more fans to come for this year's match, especially from neighbouring countries such as Brunei, Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand and Singapore," said Julian Kam, CEO of ProEvents Group, who is the sole and exclusive promoter for the Chelsea Asia Tour 2011.

"Chelsea is here not just to play a football match. We have also lined up up-close and personal activities for the fans to get closer with Chelsea players and officials. These include an autograph session, soccer clinics, charitable events and meeting the official Chelsea Supporters Club.

"This is a golden opportunity for all football fans to see a top flight English Premier League team in action. As this pre-season tour forms an important part of the team's preparations for the 2011/12 season which begins in August," Kam added.

FA of Malaysia (FAM) secretary general Dato Azzuddin Ahmad in congratulating ProEvents for making the match possible and also for celebrating its 10th anniversary in Malaysia, said: "This is a great opportunity for football fans to come and watch a top notch English Premier League team in action.

"Football fans in Malaysia and possibly in this region should not miss this golden opportunity to come and watch their idols in action. I am confident Malaysian players are also eagerly waiting to face the professionals."

Summary of Ticketing Details

i hope Rajagopal and national team players play no part at all at the Chelsea game. IF we beat taiwan, which we should, we will meet Singapore on July 23rd and the Nt's focus build up should peak at that game. these series of (over-hyped sarkas) exhibition matches will break that focus...

Arsenal Announces Pre-Season Tour to Malaysia

QUOTE
2011-05-24

KUALA LUMPUR: Arsenal FC, one of the youngest and most attractive football club teams in the world, confirmed that Malaysia will kick-start their first pre-season tour in Asia since 1999 - giving their huge fan base in Malaysia and in this region first hand opportunity to see Arsene Wenger's First Team squad for the 2011-12 season live in action.

Arsenal confirmation was announced today by FA of Malaysia (FAM) deputy president Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah, who is also the Tengku Mahkota (Crown Prince) of Pahang, Tom Fox, Chief Commercial Officer of Arsenal FC and Julian Kam, CEO of ProEvents Group, the sole and exclusive tour organiser of the Arsenal Asia Tour 2011.

Organised by the FAM, the match between Malaysian XI vs Arsenal will be held at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium on July 13 and the kick-off is at 20.45 (8.45pm).

"It is great to have the Gunners back in Malaysia after 12 year. Special thanks to ProEvents for making this happen. ProEvents has established itself as the leading football marketing and management consultancy in Asia and we look forward to more such tours from the company.

"Arsenal needs no introduction here. The last time Arsenal played Malaysia in 1999, the stadium was packed with 80,000 fans. I am sure Arsenal will draw another bumper crowd this time around.

"More importantly, it will give the Malaysian players the opportunity to pit their skills against the world class professionals, many of whom are household names worldwide,"said Tengku Abdullah.

"Arsenal's tour of Malaysia is great news for Arsenal fans here and neighbouring countries. We expect more fans from countries such as Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia and Vietnam coming for this match."

"The fact is that with the increased coverage of BPL in Asia, Arsenal's fan base has increased substantially around the region. Everyone is excited and eagerly waiting for the team to arrive in KL in July," said Julian Kam.

Arsenal Chief Executive Ivan Gazidis said: "Everyone at Arsenal Football Club is excited to be visiting Malaysia. We enjoy huge support in Asia and this will help bring the Club closer to our fans in South East Asia."

"Arsenal Football Club has a tradition of playing in Malaysia going back to the 1960s. This is our fourth visit to Malaysia. We last played in Kuala Lumpur in 1999. It will be a wonderful experience for the Club and our players, many of whom will be visiting Malaysia for the first time."

Prices for tickets for the match range from RM58, RM68, RM108 and limited VIP tickets at RM388 and are available for purchase at selected Nike stores at KLCC, The Pavilion, Mid Valley, One Utama and Sunway and Ticketpro outlets nationwide or call up Ticketpro's hotline at 013-78807999 or book online through their website www.ticketpro.com.my.

There is a bonus for those who purchase their match ticket from May 27-June 5 as each ticket will come with a complimentary training pass.

Summary of Ticketing Details
Prices for tickets range from RM58, RM68, RM108 and limited VIP tickets at RM388. From May 27, match tickets are exclusively available at selective Nike stores nationwide and each purchase comes with a complimentary commemorative training pass. From May 30 onwards, fans can purchase tickets at selected Nike and Ticketpro outlets nationwide or call up Ticketpro's hotline at 03-78807999 or book online through their website www.ticketpro.com.my.

Hi,
I'm not in Malaysia right now. Do you have any information when they will sell the ticket on ticketpro.com.my?
Because I still don't see the picture or the announcement yet on their website, but they already have chelsea events on.

Nope, none at all besides the fact that the seats are numbered and you don't have to turn up 5 hours before match to secure a half-decent-view seat. Speaking from the Man U experience. Caveat : NOT a Man U fan though brows.gif

last 2 year i went to the Malaysia vs Chelsea game..
and its really a waste of money! after 2 goals they are passing the ball within their own half and no intention to play it.Almost the entire 2nd half i think only one shot on target.
As if they worry will score more goals (due to bookie or give face to the host i dunno)
But really such a waste of money and time to watch Chelsea

i hope not. Especially against Chelsea which is just 2 days before world cup qualifying second round...

i hope they can assemble an M-League All Star team exclusive of Rajagopal players and rajagopal himself so that their focus will not be disturbed..
