The Old Testament is the foreshadow of the New Testament. The Old Testament has always been the history and preparation of events which signature the things of New Testament. That is why we believe the OT complements the NT and is in synergy.
Ever Since Adam Sinned, God immediately prepare a Plan for a solution which is the coming of our Lord Jesus to become our savior. He has always give hints and things to do to the people back then, that gives clue to the coming of Jesus.
QUOTE
Genesis 3:15
And I will put enmity between you (Satan) and the woman, and between your offspring (The Forces of Darkness) and hers; he (Jesus) will crush your head, and you will strike his heel."
That is why the people back then always longed for coming of the Messiah.
Here is one of the many instances.
Abraham Sacrifice Isaac.QUOTE
Genesis 22:2 (NIV)
Then God said, "Take your son, your only son, Isaac, whom you love, and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains I will tell you about."
Notice the word, your only son. Do you know that Isaac is not the only son Abraham has? He has another son Ishmael.
Why did God use the word "your only son"?
It's because God is giving hints to us readers that the word your only son is actually referring Jesus. Jesus is God's only begotten divine Son. Isaac is a type of foreshadow, a copy of Jesus coming.
Notice also that this offering that Abraham is commanded to do involves blood? That is speaking about the coming of Jesus Blood for our Sin.
Many a times, the old Testament offering and covering of Sin are done through the sacrifice of Animal's blood and is done every Year by High Priests of God.
But why is it that it needs to be done every year? This is because OT sacrifice is not perfect. It does not completely fulfill God's holy requirement.
Our God is a God of Justice. Where there is a Sin, there must be justice for punishment.
Praise be to God that Jesus Blood is qualified and acceptable to God as sacrifice once and for ALL, never to be repeated again.
Through him, we do not need to offer our own sacrifice to atone for our sins every year.
QUOTE
Hebrews 10:1-10
The law is only a shadow of the good things that are coming—not the realities themselves. For this reason it can never, by the same sacrifices repeated endlessly year after year, make perfect those who draw near to worship. If it could, would they not have stopped being offered? For the worshipers would have been cleansed once for all, and would no longer have felt guilty for their sins. But those sacrifices are an annual reminder of sins, because it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.
Therefore, when Christ came into the world, he said:
“Sacrifice and offering you did not desire,
but a body you prepared for me;
with burnt offerings and sin offerings
you were not pleased.
Then I said, ‘Here I am—it is written about me in the scroll—
I have come to do your will, O God.’”
First he said, “Sacrifices and offerings, burnt offerings and sin offerings you did not desire, nor were you pleased with them” (although the law required them to be made). Then he said, “Here I am, I have come to do your will.” He sets aside the first to establish the second. 1And by that will, we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
