Hey rayanne, recently I went for skin consultation at Metrojaya the curve dermalogica booth. The lady there told me my face is dry at the outer surface but oily in the inner surface around the t-zone [is there a difference between outer surface and inner surface? i have no idea...] . She also said my face is sensitive as she can see some part is red. Overall she prescribed me ultra calming cleanser for cleansing, multi active toner, and active moist for moisturizing.

So I asked for some samples and she gave me those prescribed but the active moist being replaced by skin smoothing cream because sample for active moist is out of stock. But after few days trying it, my face got more oily and small pimples start to pop out. My objective is to reduce pimples and the oil from my skin. I somehow felt that she kinda prescribed me the wrong things. What do you think? And what do you suggest me to use instead? Do you think I should visit some other AS/LD center for the skin consultation again (i'm afraid of the same mis-prescription again)? Thanks.

active moist is oil free moisturiser for normal oily skin while smoothing cream is for dry skin. in fact she already prescribe that you should use active moist . smoothing cream may not suitable for you blush.gif  it gives more moisture to your skin.
you can visit some other AS/LD centre for skin consultation ya

Hey there, just visited AS today, today's skin consultation is totally different, more long and detailed compared to the MJ booth at curve. In fact in AS, she used the purple light to view my face to check for oily place etc. Oily around t-zone and she let me tried some samples tongue.gif I would say active moist is good! And she recommended me to get the normal/oily skin kit but I said I wanted to try it first so she gave me some free samples to try (will call to followup the progress). The thing is I know I can get the skin kit cheaper from you lol, it costs rm188 there but they said for first time customer, free rm125 facial services. I'm just wondering is it that worth it to try their facial. [recommended me to try the detox facial, just need to top up some extra cash around rm40+].

What do you think?

MJ doesnt have the face mapping machine? for every LD salon/franchies AS (not booth) should have a face mapping machine for skin consultation analysis. yeah well, active moist should be better for your skin condition.
having say that, 188 after disc 150.  it is up to you whether you want to try the facial.. say if only top up RM40, i think can go for it? so meaning the facial is worth [saving of] RM38 + 40=78 laugh.gif

No, not on MJ, because its just a booth. Anyway, I've tried their samples so far...but.. why more pimples pop out?....some are small ones and some are big, esp around my cheeks -__- . They let me try special cleansing gel, daily microfoliant, skin hydrating masque and active moist... now i'm reconsidering if I even want to try their travel kit :/

perhaps dermalogica is not suitable for you.. anyhow i have not heard the above 4 items is inflammable.. normally only antibac /soothing booster may caused such effect.
you should get back to the consultant who recommended you ,it should be base on your skin type to give the consultation.

today she called to check on my progress, so i told her wat happened, and she told me that this is common, when first use, those pimples would appear etc because it has trapped and those things help to appear? (i have no idea what she was mumbling lol)... nah anyway, would most likely drop by there and see wat else she have to say lol.

Hey rayanne, my forehead is oily and my cheek is dry sometimes ultra dry and also acne prone, so i guess that's combination skin. I have sensitive, acne-prone and combination skin. For cleanser I use ultra calming cleanser and it gives without the tight feeling after cleansing.

Then from there, if I apply the multi active toner, and moisturize, I feel that I still get some tight feeling. If I straight away apply moisturizer without toner, I don't feel the tightness feeling. Is multi active toner not suitable for me? What other toner/product would you recommend? Gentle soothing booster? Thank you.

Hey rayanne,

I've been experimenting dermalogica products for quite a while. I used it briefly for a while but it keeps causing me to breakout. I didn't know which product did so, so I tried one by one. I first started using special cleansing gel, but it was too dry for me, so I switched to ultra calming cleanser alone for a week. It worked well, so then only I added in the multi active toner for another week. Both worked well... so I added active moist. From my observation, I start to see some small bumps/milia appears on my face at random places. Then... I decided to stop again for a week. Now I'm testing skin smoothing cream, and I'm afraid the effect is the same, and I do feel my t-zone area is more oily. For almost one week testing it, I feel that more milia/pimples start to pop up...esp my forehead. The thing is... why all the moisturizers I've used, starting from very light weight to medium weight, it doesnt really moisturize but causes me to get a more oily t-zone? What other moisturizer can I try ? Intensive moisture balance? I heard from some reviews intensive moisture balance is more lighter than skin smoothing cream...but even active moist have already caused some milia to develop... Any idea how I can solve this mess? :s

Can I use skin hydrating booster as moisturizer alone? Will it be too strong? Please do recommend me a good solution. Thank you =)

hi kaspersky-fan
do you get professional skin analysis to get products? this is the 1st important step before you finalise what suitable for your skin.
sounds like you have sensitive skin. there for special cleansing gel is not suitable for you. however active moist is oil free do not meet your skin requirement (pls use appropriate amount like ten cent portion and apply evenly on surface)
the moisture level is by active moist >skin smoothing cream>intensive moisture balance >super rich repair. therefore,i dont think intensive moisturiser can do a good job on your skin.
maybe you can try sheer tint redness relief spf15, more info www.dermalogica.com, just my suggestion.

some opinion says that oily skin can skip moisturiser but some opinion is not. hydrating booster is not moisturiser but a serum, it can gives hydration but not moisturisation.

Yes I've actually got the travel kit before and later my consultant provided me some skin smoothing cream samples to test out. However, I dont quite get why active moist do not meet my skin requirement? Just because its oil free? Are you saying skin smoothing cream is more suitable? Quite confused here, thanks.

hard to say, as mentioned, active moist is already less moisture compare to others but it dont adapt well into your skin. skin smoothing cream is even moisturer than active moist..

*
oh okay, its alright... maybe i will just stick with hydrating masque daily and moisturize at night only...

but the hydrating masque doesnt come in a big tube, just the standard 75ml... is the colloidal masque similar/better than the hydrating masque? what is the difference and your opinion if I use that instead occasionally?

also... if I buy more dermalogica products from you, do I get more discount? like 25%? what is the minimum amount of purchase to get that discount?

Thank you =)

i'm looking for a good moisturizer from dermalogica. i have very sensitive skin, if the moisturizer is too oily, i might get pimples or oil seeds very easily. i tried active moist before, it cause small breakouts. any recommendations?
*
hi there, I had the same situation as yours. I finally just used up to the toner step as my moisturiser, and ever since then, I never had those small breakouts... I guess the toner is good enough acting as our moisturiser, which is a great news for us as we don't need to spend more =P

for some skin condition particular very oily may not need a moisturiser , but do make extra effort for skin hydration  because without moisturisation we tend to aged faster blush.gif

ah, off and on i do use the skin hydrating masque as well so i hope that is sufficient enough =)
