I wanted to get a technician to install an old antenna & decoder that I had kept given to me by my friend as a 2nd decoder in my bedroom.
The plan was so that I can just transfer the smartcard from my living room decoder to my bedroom decoder.

However, the technician say now cannot do this anymore because Astro now has upgraded the decoder to check the smartcard serial number to match the decoder serial number that was initially purchased.

Last time i heard can, but this is news to me...

Anybody can confirm this?

I have standard definition astro decoder, one old Phillips type, and new phillips type.

Astro full of bollocks. I have 3 decoders in my house in separate rooms and the card can be used in all of those decoders including beyond.

I can confirm it's a bullsh*t too... coz I got 2 decoders at home but with just 1 card. 1 for upstair and 1 for downstairs.. Whenever I wanted to watch upstairs, I just removed the smart card from downstair's decoder and bring it upstairs.. No problem..
*Right now I've sold one of the decoder.. fearing that the smart card may broken if I keep swapping the card into different decoder all the time.

for normal Astro decoder, you can swap the smart card with other decoder, sometimes u need to rescan or need to reinsert twice to make it work but defintely can work.

for Astro Byond, there is no way you can swap the card as the card is tie with the Byond decoder.

hope this helps!!

It keep on saying invalid smart card on Nokia decoder, but works fine on Thompson decoder. I suspect newer smart card will not works with older model decoder
