CHOW KIT KITA
Chow Kit Kita is a volunteer-run community mapping arts project in Chow Kit by teenagers, for teenagers of Chow Kit. This project has been featured in major newspapers and television like The Star, News Straits Times, Sin Chew Daily, Berita Harian, 8TV and many more!

This March 2011, we're back with Phase 2 of the project. Read more about us at: http://www.chowkitkita.com . You can also find us on Facebook.

Chow Kit Kita (Phase 2) is from March - June 2011, every Saturday & Sunday only, in Chow Kit, from 11am - 3pm. For Phase 2, we'll be mapping out the FOOD PLACES OF CHOW KIT.

JOIN OUR TEAM!
One of our objectives has always been to expand community work so that you and your friends can start an initiative of your own. One reason why initiatives don't get off the ground is because there isn't enough experience and advise going around to help get it started. That's why we try to work with new people and include anyone who is interested to join us so that what we do, learn, share and develop isn't just constrained to us.

So, if you're interested to get into part-time community work that promises a whole lotta fun and invaluable experiences, read on!!!!

"THE JOB"
You'll be facilitating or assisting to facilitate workshops for teenagers aged 13 - 16 years old. Most have not been exposed to any of the art forms/skills. Each workshop takes 2 to 4 days, every Saturday & Sunday only, from 11am - 3pm.

PHASE 2 WORKSHOPS:

- Photography
- Video
- Graphic Design
- Graffiti/Mural
- Acting/Dance
- Internet (Internet for Dummies: How to blog, use search engines)
- Research (How to conduct research)
- T-Shirt Printing

FACILITATORS
Facilitators are the driving force behind workshops and the end products the teens will come up with. To be a facilitator, you first must know your art form/skill. If you're a pro, that's great! If you're not, you don't necessarily have to be!

As a facilitator, knowing your art form/skill is one thing. But knowing how to pass on your skill to others is another. You need to know how to communicate your lessons. If you have experience facilitating, that's great! If you don't, we provide facilitator training to prep you with methods and tips.

Modules are available but you can create your own module or improvise on the existing module.

ASSISTANT FACILITATORS
Assistant facilitators must also know their art form/skill. An assistants' role is to work together with the facilitator to develop modules and assist the facilitator during workshop. Ideally, assistants are people who are skillful in their art form/skill and want to learn how to become a facilitator. Consider this an internship!

GENERAL VOLUNTEERS
For almost every workshop, we will need volunteers who can come and help give one-on-one assistance to every teen. We did that in Phase 1 and we found it to be very useful! Keep yourself updated through our Chow Kit Kita Volunteer FB group as we will make an announcement whenever we need volunteers for a particular workshop.

DO I GET PAID?
Chow Kit Kita is a non-profit project run by volunteers who would like to be the change they wish to see in our society. All volunteers have a day-job and do this to contribute back to the society. However, we believe that facilitators should get an allowance for the time, effort and expertise poured into their work. For Phase 1, we managed to secure sponsorship from the National Art Gallery and each workshop received an allowance of RM2000 (not including materials and expenses). For Phase 2, we are once again seeking for funding and we are quite positive there will be more funds coming in for this project.

Depending on funding, assistant facilitators will also receive an allowance. General volunteers however, are unpaid.
