hi carbonytte,

Just wanna check with you since you purchased the laptop from U.S. I have 3 questions for you and I hope to get some answers biggrin.gif

1.
The USPS shipping cost covers till which part? a or b?
a) U.S. to Malaysia then in Malaysia, from KL to your staying place.
b) U.S. to Malaysia only but there will be extra cost from KL to your staying place

2.
The tax that you need to pay to release your laptop in U.S to be exported to Malaysia.
Is it included in the shipping cost that you pay for USPS or you need to pay extra and how much?

3.
Is there any import duty and sales tax charged on you when you receive the laptop? I can hardly find a list of items that are tax and duty free from Malaysia Custom website.
Thanks in advance for answering :]
*
No tax of anykind. Shipping costs covered right from US till Penang (my house). smile.gif Lucky us, notebooks (or it should be a full package computer system) are tax-free. Only for computer parts, I believe you need to pay the tax.

@cyrogenist : I know some are saying about the random freezes, but I still doubt it happen to the 2nd batches of Sandy Bridge. At least not mine (more than 1 day uptime, actually it was more than 1 day but I kept installing certain things which required a reboot haha). Also, RAM is cheaper in SG/MY? Doubt so. At least not MY, since MY is one of those HPC-listed countries, whereby the price is higher than normal.

KVR1333 DDR3 SoDIMM in PCDepot Malaysia = RM145
KVR1333 DDR3 SoDIMM in newegg.com = USD 49.99 == RM136.

8GB DDR3 1333 (2x4GB) (+$90.00) << Taken from LPC-Digital.

So if you buy the pre-slotted RAM, it should be cheaper since there's no tax if you buy them altogether with the laptop smile.gif

*
no one doing that yet. smile.gif

QUOTE(cryogenist @ Apr 6 2011, 11:05 PM)
Haha. I also hope there is no problem for everyone too.

The second reason I want to install my own RAMs is because RAM is cheaper in SG/MY. If there is any problem with them, I can RMA straightaway.
*
Mucro/cubehub didn't offer a unit WITHOUT RAM. I have asked then and they only offers the unit without hard drive. The customer must buy RAM.
In my case, I buy the unit WITHOUT hard drive and RAM from RJTECH.com.

The aftermarket (value RAM) is cheap if you compare it with the reseller. And I can get a special dealer price for any computer parts (currently working in company supplies computer parts)

I can get 4GB DDR3-1333 @ RM139 brows.gif

News
I have asked RJ Tech and they sells standalone AMD Radeon HD6970m card, and probably together with new heatsink.
You have to do the upgrade by yourself, if you do not wish to deliver the laptop to reseller.

Any problem with DHL?
It took 3 working days for Mucro/DHL to deliver my Sager to my doorstep. I don't see a service failure.

note that LPC-digital actually used USPS only wor (similar to PosLaju, but this is US wan, US Postal Service). Luckily for International Express, they mentioned the Exporting Carrier to be FedEx Express smile.gif

for this case, suprisingly a multinational carrier (DHL) is using local/national carrier (PosLaju).
*
Huh? DHL uses Poslaju?
It was DHL staff (with DHL uniform) that delivered the notebook.
He did alot of scannings before he handed the notebook to me.
I saw him doing a neat job.
I don't see Poslaju, for my case.

O.o?

DHL costs RM227.

poslaju costs RM100.
DHL pays poslaju to do the work? wtf?
*
Are you sure DHL needs Poslaju to do the delivery job?

The first batch before the SB recall saga. My friend bought the laptop straightaway after it was announced. Haha.

From what he told me, the problem arises if he attempt to switch off the touchpad.
But from that NBR thread, those who never installed the Hotkeys drivers still experienced freezes.
*
Well the first batch SBs had the freezes concurrently. Somehow a small defective number went through the newer batches after the SB fixes.

The problem with the freezes is that it's random; there were many things tried and done but just too many variables. Then again, I remember one NBR member who was complaining all the time...he installed Linux instead, and no freezes at all. So "maybe" it might be Windows.

also, when i called them earlier, i ask them when they will pass the package to POS Laju?

they answer is something like when ur package reach Kuantan then we will pass to POS Laju, w/o denying.

i guess tis time also same like before. (i use DHL 2 times d before, all end up with Pos Laju)

Aluene,

I tried your suggestion regarding the ACHI/IDE changes (SSD) in BIOS...but unfortunately it does not work. Did the same on my netbook, same result.

I just got my RMA number, so I'll be replacing the SSD tomorrow.

Have anyone asked before whether we can request from Mucro to have 1x4GB instead of 2x2GB?

This is weird. DHL has an office in Kota Bahru.
DHL Worldwide Express Sdn Bhd
No. 5, Lot 1202A/996, Ground Floor, Taman Puspa Uda, Jalan Pengkalan Chepa, Kota Bharu Kelantan 15400 Malaysia,

Unprofessional? Or "special arrangement" by DHL local staff?
I remember DHL advertised on TV that they can deliver goods to every corner in Asia.
Insist delivery by DHL if you are not comfortable with poslaju.

Sometimes it's all luck.

I booked the Sager 8170 in January (before the chipset bug was announced).
I waited for 2 months.
It was buggy when I received it. I got it rectified by flashing bios.
I bought a Vertex 3. Few days later OCZ announced there is delay of shipment until mid April.
I gotta wait again.

It's all luck.

It's different for every reseller. Sometimes they give you good bags, sometimes no. The bag that included with mine is actually REALLY good, surprisingly.
