Wow, it bound to happen when Intel release a "low cost" quad core SB Core i7-2630QM, AMD - without Llano on sight - has to reduce the price of current quad core to even lower price entry. How low can AMD quad core notebook go?

Today we got answer from HP - longtime AMD partner. HP Online store is now selling CQ42 notebook featuring AMD Phenom II X4 N970 2.2 GHz Quad Core (2MB L2 Cache & TDP 35W) with additional Radeon 6370 with 512MB DDR3 RAM (80-sp only).

Phenom II X4 N970 is equavelent with i5?

depending on the program...

synthetic benchmark, 740QM > N990

Photoshops, 740QM > N990

games, N990 > 740QM

o.O not that familiar with amd, need more research.. and compare.. btw, is there any price listed for this CQ42

Its a tough for AMD to survive on Laptop without Llano and Bulldozer - -,so they no choice but to drop the price.

The estimated benchmark based on notebookcheck for the N970 is around i3-330M level, which is rather weird
But good to see that there's something powerful and cheap, too bad its placed in a heat-prone Compaq

HD6370 = HD5470 performance.

Just rebadged but it can hold its own in some gaming.

Yeah lah, almost the same speed with integrated M880G graphics lah...

You have no idea what you saying, do you? I have tested both, HD 6370M is the rebadged HD 5470, which is WAY faster than integrated variant of M880G. Having said that it still a low end card, even with quads I don't expect it do well in games.

haha... what do you expect from a budget-ted laptop? It's not a fully gaming laptop...
It is catered for light gaming, word processing and heavy multitasking purposes

hmm.. i dun remember seeing my desktop Athlon II x2 with stock cooler running over 35C during idle...

Even my Athlon II X4 620 stays under 35C during idle, stock cooler btw.

Just double check, AMD Phenom II X4 N970 is top of lines mobile CPU from AMD. So top speed for current quad core is 2.2GHz at the moment. Wonder how fast Llano CPU clock speed will be?
