QUOTE(aldosoesilo @ Feb 22 2011, 10:39 AM) Spam a bit Color is brilliant, focus is sharp, but picture lacks subject and theme. Are you intend to shoot trees in general?Since I am learning landscape photography. I wish I could have critique and comment. Please. » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « Added on February 22, 2011, 12:41 pm QUOTE(Everdying @ Feb 22 2011, 08:58 AM) wedding shots ppl want to see their faces la. Very dangerous to generalize what wedding shots are. You'll never know what kind of style the couple will like.not fancy low light scenery. and thats why some ppl drag assistants who carry tripods Discuss properly with couple/client what kind of character/style they want in their wedding shots. Act smart and shooting it the way you like will send your wedding photography down the drain. This post has been edited by geekster129: Feb 22 2011, 12:43 PM |

Having a faster UWA is not bad. It's good to have extra stops in low light condition. f/2.8 is not always about the bokeh.

QUOTE(aldosoesilo @ Feb 24 2011, 10:19 AM) I mean practically you will use it at f8 right? For me, yes. Loving the extra stops. so an aperture is it a consideration of choosing UWA? I have sigma 10-20 4-5.6 and sigma 10-20 3.5 sigma 8-16mm F4.5-5.6 DC HSM tokina 12-24 in my mind what do you think? those makes me think whether aperture is a consideration of choosing UWA or not. bro are u sure nikkon is releasing 50 1.2? because I heard that Nikkon mounting place is too small which makes them hard to make those big big aperture lenses. |

QUOTE(jchue73 @ Feb 24 2011, 10:43 AM) Any reason why? 24mm f/1.4 better than 35mm f/1.4? I might need it for journalistic shots. It can be anywhere. Even in weddings. Yup, for most people, it's overkill since landscapes are always shot stopped down. Big apertures on wide angles benefit people shooting in low light like photojournalist. The pic posted is the old Nikkor Manual Focus lens. So it is possible that Nikon would come out with an AF-S version. Heck, one of the most coveted lenses i.e. Noct is a 58mm f/1.2. Sometimes, the feature being put in has a reason. It might not be everyone. But you'll know what you need as you shoot more. Kitlens is there for a reason. It covers most of the reasonable range when you're new to photography. Once you know your shooting style, then only get the right lens for your photo assignment. As I mentioned before, each lens have their own characteristic. This post has been edited by geekster129: Feb 24 2011, 10:55 AM |

QUOTE(BenSow @ Feb 27 2011, 12:30 PM) went for dinner yesterday.. practice food photography.. but i cant seem to get sharp enough focus =( I used my 18-55 on A mode with f/7.1, ISO 1600 and shutter speed of about 1/20... still cant get sharp focus I think you jacked up the aperture quite high, so the camera will attempt to choose a slower shutter speed. But bear in mind though, slower shutter speed will get you more prone to camera shake, and at 1/20s, slight camera movement can throw your image unsharp. Also remember, at ISO 1600, when your available lighting is not sufficient, your picture is going to look very noisy. Not sure how good ISO 1600 performance on the D3100 though. |

QUOTE(BenSow @ Feb 27 2011, 02:41 PM) here's the best i got.. this is the only one i uploaded to the net.. others i dont dare xD I agree with you that even at small aperture, image still can be unsharp.snc6/180744_10150153753903296_719908295_8016026_6844170_n.jpg[/img] ok... I jacked the aperture value higher because i wanted more DOF... and for me 1/20 isnt much problem before.. Maybe i didnt take note of the absent of crisp sharpness before... ok next time wont put so slow shutter speed/big aperture already... For the ISO, all the while ive been using 1600 without any big problems -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- was bored so i wanted to take pictures of a still object, picked my dad's old canon AE-1 program... is it ok if i post the pic here or are there any brandist here who cant tolerate the sight of canon? lol Yeah. Remember also DOF affected by the following: 1. Distance in relation between camera and subject 2. Focal length 3. Distance in relation between background and subject. About your pic. Everything is OK. Perhaps you would want to PP your image to make it pop a bit? This post has been edited by geekster129: Feb 27 2011, 02:57 PM |

QUOTE(BenSow @ Feb 27 2011, 03:06 PM) Composition... i always have that problem.. somehow I still dont knowwhat that is lol nevermind will do some reading composition is the art of arranging your subject and background in an interesting manner photographically. This is what gives your pic a distinction between a normal snapshot and a creative snapshot. Composition can be in many forms: Shapes/Geometry, Arrangements, Colors, etc. Go check out the Golden Rule of Thirds as well. |

QUOTE(KTCY @ Mar 2 2011, 05:47 PM) Gear head for me = collect rare items and it doesn't mean I have to understand all the technical things about this. Spending cash to enjoy looking at it lying in my drybox. So can consider you like those audiophiles out there collecting expensive Hi-Fi just for the sake of the enjoyment of it? Technical stuff as in that lens how many blade, MFD, how many elements, how many groups etc and etc ! Talking about your age is because the person at your age take technical thing too seriously ! Don't deny Kopitiam ? Well, go check the board. Almost everywhere is like this. You can't accept we TCSS, don't read And we don't share photos at specific gallery too. Take celciuz as example. He does have one but mostly post it at here. |

QUOTE(Agito666 @ Mar 3 2011, 10:19 AM) I still felt like iTunes did some compression on the pics even though I uploaded a full res image onto ipad, hence, slight unsharpness. Get a camera connection kit, and it's becomes a pixel peeping tool. They said RAW files are supported, not sure with Nikon NEF files, though It's also a digital "5R" photo frame for portfolio, etc. This post has been edited by geekster129: Mar 3 2011, 11:53 AM |

QUOTE(Kent3888 @ Mar 4 2011, 01:04 PM) for me, sometimes shades can provide some good shadows and highlights, and stop down available light a bit. It tends to saturate the color a bit, which is my favourite spot to shoot sometimes. Otherwise, if available light overpowers the subject too much, it tends to make the whole pic look flat, and doesn't look appealing to me. Kind of a fan of highlights and tones recently. |

kent3888: yea. Totally agree with you. But again, it depends on the individual taste. For your case if you want both subject and background well exposed, it's either to play with the positioning of the subject, or do something similar like lwliam... Meter the background or ambient lighting, then slightly compensate subject with flash, i would like to have softbox if budget allows, or use reflector, if direction of the available light doesn't help.
