Hi, all pro here. I am newbie here. I need opinion , comment advice from you all. I planning to buy Nikon D3100, is it ok for newbie ? I am still compare within Canon 1000D and Nikon D3100. I mam still a student , due to budget is tight so only this two model is the cheapest i can get, so i hope to listen and get all the opinion and comment from you all so that i wont make any mistake from choosing a better camera.
Thx a lot in advance.

QUOTE(ezrasang @ Feb 20 2011, 08:35 PM) D3100 for sure. Latest model. Even if 1100D is in the market, I personally think D3100 still better than 1100D. Google up and compare the spec for yourself, you may see a better and clearer picture Ok, but even i compare i duno which wan is better coz i have ntg much knowledge about the camera ? AF will affect a lot of things ???

QUOTE(aldosoesilo @ Feb 20 2011, 08:45 PM) w/o AF you have to do focusing manually. image you twisting your lens until you have the proper focus of your subject. very hard to explain since you don't have the lens yet. but as for me manual focus is very hard especially for moving object. so izzit with AF is better ...??? manually focus seems like very hard. If compare color, quality, sharpness, nikon better or canon better ? Wat do u mean manually AF ? cnt half press only shoot ? coz normal is half press after it AF done thn oni press all the way down to capture the photo. QUOTE(tjin @ Feb 20 2011, 09:51 PM) that is wat u call auto focus (AF) if you are opting for nikon entry level DSLR, you wont be able to use AF if the lens does not have this function where else for canon, you can do so bcos canon has a AF motor built-in inside the camera... ok, so if i buy nikon if the lense that can AF is ok..?? or nomarlly lense if no AF function ? Added on February 20, 2011, 9:59 pmQUOTE(celciuz @ Feb 20 2011, 09:54 PM) Wrong, it is because all Canon lens have motor built in. Nikon on the other hand some lens such as the cheap yet good 50mm f/1.8D does not have a built in motor but has to depend on the screw drive from the body. so if i buy nikon body with which kind of cheap lense is able to AF ?? QUOTE(Andy214 @ Feb 20 2011, 10:33 PM) Both also good, it depends on individual; Some prefer Nikon, some prefer Canon, some have BOTH. Don't choose what others like, choose what you feel is best for you..... And do you really need a DSLR? What are you looking for? Are you just buying it's cool to hold a DSLR? If you want easy to take good pictures, and you don't plan to invest in photograhy, Point and Shoot camera might be a better choice and value for money. I m just wan to take a better photo, not of cool .lol my budget camera nw is between nikon D3100 or Canon 1000D.....very confuse........

QUOTE(Andy214 @ Feb 20 2011, 10:53 PM) Have you tried using one DSLR? For Nikon, you can try out the models in Nikon Centre @ Berjaya Times Square. The lens is kit lens, try it and see if like it. Some people (not mean you), they might not really know what they want and think DSLR is what they need, but after getting one, they find it harder to handle, heavy, bulky, and the kit lens can't offer the quality they want, but they're not willing to invest on better lens which is what they want for the quality. Anyway, if you're looking for DSLR, then try it out yourself to know which you prefer more. Both Nikon and Canon design is different, the menu system is different, etc. No point buy Brand A because people say it's good, then later you hold/touch/feel/use Brand B and you prefer Brand B. The camera is just a tool for photographer, choose what's best for yourself, not others. thx for the opinion , i had try the canon 1000D before it seems ok only. But i nvr try nikon D3100, some more this model has no AF, this is the most thing i worried about....since i m newbie...

QUOTE(eddy230379 @ Feb 20 2011, 11:15 PM) the D3100 doesnt have a built in motor for focusing but most of the modern Nikon AF-S lenses have built in focus mechanism in them ... so if i buy this model with the lens that hav AF motor also can AF ??/ the cheaper 18-55 lens with AF is how much ??
