QUOTE(hapeace @ Feb 16 2011, 05:01 PM) Hye guys, wanna ask for ur opinion. i'll stick to wat u have for me, i think 70mm on a DX are a bit tele.My wife n me suddenly got an invitation to go holiday to new zealand this july (winter season dat time). What lens should i bring there? Actually im funding to buy 70200 but dun think its suitable for travel right.. Or should i stick to my plan buying 70200 and start building muscles now? Budget is around price for 70200, less then rm7k. Thank you. Depends wat type of shooter u r also and ur trip itenanry. if free n easy and u have all d time to change lens and dun mind xtra weight, sure 70-200mm is good to capture high IQ images. experience with 2 trip lugging with me atx116, 50mm & 80-200mm. chances are...i shoot less than 10% of my photos with 80-200mm. well, tats my case. |

QUOTE(kakisemut @ Feb 17 2011, 02:43 PM) any boutique hotel for rec around jonker street??seems like most of them are fully booked... QUOTE(pikipiki @ Feb 17 2011, 03:12 PM) QUOTE(pikipiki @ Feb 17 2011, 03:58 PM) 1) He's talking about 24-70 on a DX body, not comparing 17-55 on DX and 24-70 on FX. comparing 80200mm & 70300mmvr.2) 16mm is not that wide for DX 2) Of course you can, but I said the keep rate is too low and it is very hard to get sharp focus especially at the longer end without VR. For example handheld shooting a bird without VR and to get a sharp pic you really need to have a hand of steel. i have better keep rate on my 80200mm. it depends on the condition also...VR does help but it wont do miracle la. ![]() Fighting Macaw by daze_lee, on Flickr shoot bird without VR. i got hand of steel??? if 16mm is not wide on DX. what is consider wide on DX? 12mm?? and how to define an ultra wide for a DX??? 5mm?? QUOTE(pikipiki @ Feb 17 2011, 05:06 PM) Yeah, but he seems like he made up his mind about the f2.8 in the previous post but searching for another wide angle which he says he wants to shoot really up close in the streets. conclusion...17 & 16 yes quite some significant difference but pay so much for that 1mm? Might as well get a proper DX wide angle zoom. Anybody aware of the new patent that Nikon recently filed? The half mirror(similar to Sony's translucent mirror system) and the flash with built-in bounce system. Interesting. - f2.8 - wide angle - street photography - DX camera nikkor 14-24mm f2.8 tokina 11-16mm f2.8 nikkor 14mm f2.8 nikkor 20mm f2.8 nikkor 24mm f1.4 nikkor 24mm f2.8 list go on.... QUOTE(pikipiki @ Feb 18 2011, 12:23 PM) Yeah just a few days ago at Funan Singapore with my friends, coz the shop didn't have the stock for the 24-120 my friend was looking so he ask us to try this out which is a bit cheaper but got longer range. 28-300mm not bad la. for the IQ.And I ask him to let me try the 70-200 2.8 too. The 28-300 at 300mm indoor I have to bump up the ISO to 6400 and there's some vignetting altho the image is quite sharp. However, when I compare it with the 70-200 it's like heaven and earth. But it's okay if you're not too demanding it's a nice lens that offer pretty sharp image but it's a lil too dark sometimes thru the viewfinder especially compare to the 70-200 which is a much faster lens. only diff is 24-120mm got N and f4 all d way. of course cant compare to 70-200mm. same does the price tag. |

QUOTE(alpha_company @ Feb 21 2011, 04:03 PM) So both the XS and Pro1D is hard to clean? Aisey... heard of it. nvr use it. only saw heliopan in d shelf.I asked this guy working in a camera shop about filters suitable for the 2470... he didn't even mention B+W much less Hoya. He directly answered Rodenstock & Heliopan. I know Heliopan makes filters...but I'm really in the dark about Rodenstock. Can anyone tell me about these 2 filter brands? but cant afford either one of it... B+W are good enough for me. or a Nikon NC filter |

QUOTE(kakisemut @ Feb 22 2011, 01:52 PM) Added on February 22, 2011, 1:56 pm mean 116 is not good? i want to funding for wide lens... need some reversion about the lens first... ATX116 are good and like any other ultra wide angle. They have the characteristic to strecth and distort watever at the edge. (notice the trishaw has been stretch) e.g: ![]() Jonker Street : Malacca by daze_lee, on Flickr and due the distortion. some or most ultra wide angle lens are not suitable to use with a Cir Polarizer. Someone ask about it before i guess. manage to found a sample image. notice the rainbow effect below? (this is only a mild one) e.g: ![]() Daegu > Jeju Island by daze_lee, on Flickr |
