got all my stuff online (save from 7.75% tax) and so far i'm lucky. but i only bought from shops/dealers with good return policies.

Not custom tax, I meant I live here in US, if u buy stuff from shops u will be charged sales tax for 7.75% (in my state) 

If not mistaken, camera stuff, lenses etc won't be charged for tax in Malaysia. All tax free.

In reality, that's correct. But all items are still taxed if they are found to be more than RM 500 (after including shipping cost).
How much was the item declared on the shipping slip (including shipping price)?

If your item is handled by Pos Laju or Pos Malaysia, they are not so strict. The ones from UPS, FedEx and DHL are the worst. They will just automatically send the bill to ask you to clear the tax on the item.
If there is no value declared on the shipping slip, or the value (+ shipping charges) after conversion is less than RM 500, there should be no tax.

Mine RM2k camera, handle by UPS, clear customs very fast, without tax. They printed out the tariff code as well;

You guys can check at http://tariff.customs.gov.my/ to get the tariff code. you don't have to pay tax for lenses even it's more than RM500. Many sifus bought >rm5k lenses, not a single cent tax.

Usually taxable item if sent under GIFT and less than RM500 (+shipping charges), then you may be exempted. Depends on mood.

Go ahead and buy! No tax! If you use DHL, Fedex, UPS, they will clear it for you. If use post laju, maybe u need to pay RM50 for the agent to get it for u, in case they tahan your parcel.
