You can't really fault Spain at the WC simply because there wasn't a team that really had a go at them. Sure they were probably over cautious and would have been more entertaining if they had been abit more direct like in Euro 08 but at the end of the day both teams are responsible for the spectacle on the pitch.
Germany were fun to watch when they had space to exploit behind defences but against Ghana for example where they didn't have that luxury they only struggled to a 1-0 win.
The best football matches are those where both teams have a go at each other and commit players to attack. It gives more space for attacking players to exploit and games like that tend to be end to end stuff.
Possession football isn't boring. It's tempo that makes a game boring not style. As long as the tempo is high enough possession football can be very attractive to watch. Besides the best football teams throughout history are the ones that kept possession well.
