OK, here's the deal. A couple of days back, I thought my phat PS3 suffered the infamous YLOD. It is not a permanent YLOD coz I can still ON my PS3 and play DVD/BD or videos via USB HDD. I just can't play my games. The games were ON for a while then suddenly the whole systems shuts off with a brief yellow LED followed by beeping and blinking red LED.

So, I was arranging plans to send it for a fix.

This morning, I tried to flip the PS3 vertically (before this I put it in horizontal). I can play my FIFA11 with no sudden shut off. Well, it still happening but not that frequent anymore.

So, now I am confused. Is my PS3 is showing YLOD symptoms or it is having some other issues? Any clues, guys? rclxub.gif

getting YLOD so get ready for slim

Why slim? I thought slim version don't have fans like phat version?

I suspect my PS3 is suddenly shuts off due to overheating. Maybe the fan is not working at the required speed. I dunno.

Slim use less power and generate less heat. Anyway I do notice the small fan behind my slim PS3. biggrin.gif

I see... Well, if my phat really kena YLOD, I'll be holding back for slim purchase till I get a firm info on what will happen to PSN. Rumors about PSN going to be like XBL is really worrying. Not that I mind paying, but getting you a$$ kick by the japs in BO and you paid for it is not a happy thought. tongue.gif

mine might not as bad as yours. it still can play gt5 and stuffs. the only problem is when u want to turn the ps3 on. yellow light will appear for 1 sec then it will turn red. turn on again same thing happen. so you turn off and on the main switch at the back. then it can be played.

well afterall it's a 2007 model. doesn't even have sd card reader on the front. this problem started when i had some plan to buy the slim version 2 weeks back.

been reading and watching on how ppl try to fix this problem. some says that if YLOD appears, it will happen again even after it was being fixed.
*
Eh, now PS3 ada SD card reader? I'm so outdated. tongue.gif

Mine also 2007 model. Got it during promotion from SONY.

last night, i spent some time understanding the scenario by running some tests.

it turned out, the yellow LED didn't came out after the system shut off on its own. i did this (by turning on games) a few times while watching the LED's and wait for the system to shut off.

after a series of "self-shut-off", i quickly turn off the main switch and take out HDD. the HDD is really hot.

i place a fan facing directly to the PS3 and turned on games. i can play up to 3 full matches until the system shuts off. again, no yellow LED.

from my observation, my PS3 shuts off on its own due to overheating. i believe something went wrong with the PS3's cooling system because it gets overheated so quickly. it could be the symptom for YLOD but i think it is not yet YLOD.

i think laaaa... tongue.gif

If you reapply compound without a heat-gun, sure cannot work 1, because I tested before. First time failed without a heatgun, 2nd time successful with heatgun.
*
Really? Let me give it a try first.

I suspect the fan is not working. Not so sure coz i forgot to check it before i open up my ps3. When the fan not working, the system shuts off when temperature reaches certain level. That's my guess for now. Coz now I don't see any yellow LED.

Update (26/04, 11.00PM): It is aliveeeeeeeee!!! thumbup.gif

ur fan not working?? no loud sound at all? i mean the sound of the fan moving?
*
After I assembled everything back, I turned on my PS3. I checked the exhaust, got air flow. So, fan is working but somehow it does not produce any loud song. I never remember it to be loud tho. But you might be right, I felt the air flow is kinda low. I was thinking of installing few more exhausts.

format it to FAT32, i formatted mine to fat32 then i transfer back to pc, then i format my external drive to NTFS to use...
*
Yes, you are right. At home, I have three system; MAC, WIN and PS3. So FAT32 is the format of all my 5 ext HDD. Not the best format tho to transfer large file.

hehe... most are speculations. just wait for the official announcement. i'm pretty sure everything is good. even if we were to download patches, it is still OK if it will bring good things. besides, every updates, the file size is quite big, at least more than 100MB. usually, it only takes like 1/2 hour to download the update. no biggie. tongue.gif

wat patch it is?
haiz wanted to get uni fi for my ps3 and for home use, but no $$$ T_T
1MB indeed is enugh, but the connection is not tat smooth compare to unifi due to fibre optic. My game in Black Ops always 3 ping bars, while the foreigners have 4 pings they can easily kill me, while i lack of ping to kill them, when i hav 4 ping bar sometimes, i can easily kill them off... XD
*
Hehehe... Just _speculation_ saying there will be patches for security purposes.

I only use YES for COD:BO. I only got 1 bar. That explains the low KD ratio. Only able to get 1.0+ KD ratio so far. tongue.gif

Here is an interesting article: http://stefde69.blogspot.com/2010/10/solvi...n-your-ps3.html

I think we can solve the problem by making it cooler from the beginning, not when YLOD strike. But I haven't seen anybody replacing their thermal paste and install better fan control (DIY manual/auto PWM fan controller) when they just bought the unit.
*
It is true. YLOD is the aftermath of overheating. I've been looking for 12/24VDC industrial grade fan/exhaust as part of my experiment for my dying PS3. All I can find is priced at >RM300. Will look for better & cheaper options.

I know in the end I still need to get a new PS3. Electronic components were not made to survive a lifetime. biggrin.gif

Just believe us that the ultimate solution for real YLOD is by replacing the mobo and it will cost u RM700++. getting new one is nuch better.

It is much easier if you trust our words. If you don't, just go ahead try the RM100 solution and tell us that we were wrong about it. biggrin.gif

P/S: Ask the RM100 solution providers if they can give like 3 months warranty. Their answers should be enough to help you making your decision.
