Well at least I still able to do folding lol and can still copy my save files whn new slim arrives. Is ps3 YLOD reli inevitable one *sob sob* guess wat my first game on slim would be uncharted 3 ><
*
i think it can but u nid to handle ur ps3 very very well...

QUOTE(naziaf @ Oct 31 2011, 09:48 PM)
Some ppl used a fan speed controller to manually control the speed of the internal fan. So far, havent heard of the guy designing the circuit reporting YLOD on his 40GB launch PS3 yet. It's worth a try.

I have the module but too late since in my case the MOBO rosak dy.
*
where to get the speed controller u mentioned?

QUOTE(prominen @ Oct 31 2011, 10:01 PM)
not sure I kena full YLOD or not bcoz yesterday I just open my PS3 fat after 6 month not open it...It just light yellow for a sec than red blinking light with a beep...
*

Looks like it happened to my phat yesterday after i insert UC3 disc inside.

light sequence is green-yellow-blinking red. what does it mean?

coz i heard some ppl immediately get solid red light
*
usually ylod means overheating...

QUOTE(andrewcha @ Nov 3 2011, 11:00 AM)
afaik blinking red means hardware failure.
ok I decided to give up my dark soul and put some effort on my died slim. if I got any breakthrough will inform u all. might make a tutorial as well if success.

not working...haiya...just great when UC3 just come out...huhuhu
but not yet tested hair dryer method...
*
do not ever try the stupid hair dryer method... it spoil ur component...

QUOTE(naziaf @ Nov 4 2011, 12:27 PM)
I've tried the hair dryer method with circuit board stripped out from the console. Didn't work as I think the heat wasn't high enuf.

I believe the one that works is where you wrap the console in a towel or enclose it in the retail box and blow the hair dryer into the back grille? I'm too scared to try that method. Not until I xfer all my data into a new unit.
*
no do not try it... u will regret to try it... it spoil ur ps3 component, it might works for awhile, but it will gone ylod anytime... if lucky it can last, but USUALLY it wont last... so do not ever try this cheap method... juz send to someone to fix it...

hi everyone, i planning to get ps3 but which one i should get?
my set or sg set
i know that my set is the best but since i looked over
this thread, i dunno which should i get already ( my budget quite tight)
so, i need everyone's honest opinion
tq
*
ok if u get MY set make sure u can from sony centre, of course u can get somewhere else wit SONY warrany... like i mention is SONY warranty not ordinary shop provided warranty... and of course if u get from sony my u hav to pay slightly more like 100 bucks i guess? i din survey the price now... i would advise to get SG set, because it is cheaper 100-200 bucks if i'm not mistaken + they provide Sony Singapore warranty, as long as the warranty provided by sony then it doesnt matter, but the only prob is u have to send back to singapore and required like around 50 bucks to send back. So overall sg set is more worth, but more procedure and more time u have to spend. Either u can pay more to save all the problems or spend less to get the same thing but u hav to wait and proceed more stuff... So i've explained everything. Others is up to u to decide.

Just to add on top of what cloudstrifes said, all the hassle is involved ONLY IF you need to claim warranty. Otherwise, relax and enjoy the PS3 during the warranty period biggrin.gif
*
yes... exactly... actually u can do smtg like tat, I've heard someone suggest such suggestion. Use the ps3 until the warranty over, sell it out and get a new 1... LOL~

QUOTE(naziaf @ Nov 10 2011, 10:14 AM)
Just to share my findings last night.

I got a slim CECH-3006B last week, and I was concern on preventing YLOD to this fella (after that happened to my fat). The first few days, it laid flat on the TV bench. After 1-2 hours of GOW3, the bottom rear left of the console was hot!

Added some modification to the setup. Placed 4 mineral water bottle caps underneath the console and placed a USB fan to blow underneath it. Played GOW3 for 2 hours, felt the bottom of the console after that, it was barely warm!

Just thought someone could benefit from this. smile.gif
*
bro u can juz put it as vertical so the heat on the bottom of ps3 can released easily...

QUOTE(snipersnake @ Nov 10 2011, 01:48 PM)
good find bro smile.gif
*
yeah quite true as well...

Two reasons I'm putting mine horizontally:

1) Old fat was vertical since day one. When I changed the thermal paste 4 years later, I can see that some of the original paste had spilled out of CPU surface. I suspect it's the gravity pulling it down when the viscosity decreased when it got so hot.

2) I have the Uncharted 3 faceplate on, so when it's on vertical, it's a bit senget  doh.gif (vulnerable to falling down)
*
icic... this is wat i heard for the 1st time...

QUOTE(shin gouki @ Nov 11 2011, 08:47 PM)
How abt notebook cooler? Is it effective to cool down the ps3? Or jz use the stand fan.
*
actually notebook cooler doesnt help much, even for laptops...

QUOTE(naziaf @ Nov 12 2011, 09:53 AM)
If you have the budget, I'd recommend it. But nothing beats a stand fan, seriously.
*
stand fan is not tat expensive bro... anyway air-cond is a better way... LOL~

give 100 fan also useless, face the most important is gpu inside.  sweat.gif , for those phat ps3 user its time to get slim lol. i received alot feedback its all about firmware and new games effected will give problem occur ylod again even do reballing gpu also depends on luck sometimes can tahan for 1hour or 1 month only(even you send to sony help also they cant do anything) their recertified phat ps3 from sg also useless the turbo fan always appear but wont shutdown(dont tell me about thermal paste whatever-any-branded will work its actually the same).not like back to lastime 3.41 firmware after fix ylod its totally like permanent fix but for now can cry waste time to fix  cry.gif
*
i thought good fan will release the heat properly and will cause less heat on the gpu and the gpu can survive longer... and the proper thermal apply can release heat even better... due to sony crap thermal apply tat is why cause the gpu cant release heat efficiently.

QUOTE(lilko @ Nov 14 2011, 11:37 AM)
4 bottle caps is not hard to find.. Thx for sharing the idea.. XD
*
yes it is easy to get... juz get 4 bottle of water for juz 4 bucks or 4 bottle of any drinks or belanja ppl.. XD

QUOTE(samowong @ Nov 14 2011, 03:08 PM)
Was playing Uncharted 3 in my living room the other day, no aircon / fan on. The console fan went into turbo mode, very loud during the ship in rough seas level. Similar experience with Uncharted 2. Just a reminder to cool the PS3 when playing Uncharted series. They really strain the PS3. Btw, mine's phat 40GB, vertical.
*
owh... if possible tried to finish it as soon as possible... or giv it a 15 min break every 1 hour of playing...

QUOTE(naziaf @ Nov 14 2011, 07:01 PM)
No problem. I bought 4 small Pepsi bottles the other day. I'm not a fan of sodas so when my wife found them in the shopping cart, I had to return them.

At home, she gave me substitute caps from her vanilla flavoring bottles biggrin.gif

Trust me, ylod will come back anytime for only phat version smile.gif, unless u maintain before ylod appear do every 6/12month replace a new thermal (all thermal compound its the same),but still depends ,wont be last long depending what game u play.
*
yeah i noe... coz fat version is reli sucks for the ventilation.

QUOTE(snipersnake @ Nov 17 2011, 08:32 AM)
Sony's thermal paste contains no lead, to comply with law since ps3 is classified as a toy. Lead not good with kids.

i thought is because bad for environment?

*
bro at least it served u 4 years... mine 2 and half years only =_=''' somemore, I not that often play, just hardcore playing when I was free. When I'm not free maybe not even touching it for days or maybe just for few hours. The 2nd year I didn't used it much either, due to no money to fund new games, then ylod adi.

mine was phat 80gb ps3
*
if I'm not mistaken, it is the power supply problem.

Just recently my PS3 slim shows ylod symptom. Usually happen when i want to turn the ps3 ON, after few more tries it can run as normal. So far it hasn't automatically shut down while playing games. I'm not sure due to overheat or power supply problem.

owh i suspect is the power supply problem...

how to repair power supply, buy new cables?
*
no cables is not power supply... u hav to open it out take the power supply and change a new 1... is like computer power supply like tat, but i not sure tat ps3 power supply is exactly like computer power supply anyway send to someone to check it, u can try ask deyamato for more information, coz i juz agak, based on wat i research.. usually still can start, but sometimes will ylod, sometimes might be ylod symptom, sometime it might be power supply prob... if power supply prob still can last...

QUOTE(snipersnake @ Nov 25 2011, 09:35 AM)
actually US law states that, if the device contains lead, it is not safe for children hence, a no no for production.

Being said, what if then one purchased a brand new PS3, he changes the thermal paste to a better one immediately . . . .  hmm.gif
*
if purchased a brand new ps3... changes the thermal paste immediately, warranty also gone =_='''

QUOTE(shahreza2000 @ Dec 5 2011, 09:17 PM)
the hdd is encrypted to specific ps3... so it can't be used in other ps3 unless that old hdd reformat (for use in new ps3).

terryfu someone replied your question.

Mine is MY set, FFXIII vers some more but warranty expired already. sad.gif

Should i take it to Sony Service Centre, or try to replace the psu by myself? Service center are far from my home (i live in langkawi).

BTW, i found this

http://www.edepot.com/playstation3.html#PS3_Power_Supply

Mine probably EADP-220BB
*
I would suggest you to send someone to repair. Sometimes is better to spend slightly extra rather doing yourself, because you don't know anything about it, later spoil it then not worth. Btw mine also limited edition YLOD serious case.. Gone...

QUOTE(shahreza2000 @ Dec 5 2011, 10:30 PM)
up to u if u can open ps3 and replace the parts

yes, theres a error msg when u gaming can see "warning message:Your system has become hot" this is what we so called early sign of ylod . so before got auto shutdown quickly turn off and check your gpu thermal-paste izit hardened dried-cracked.

i got 1 solution just to share everyone what i always do how to clean dust from some vent holes trick and also help to blow away the heat after when u stop playing ps3.

Read the disclaimer before you do smile.gif , technical job always do .

For Slim just unplug the power cable instead of turning off the switch on the Fat one
*
i did this b4, but i made some research they said this will spoil the ps3 faster... i forgot wats the reason...
