Hi guys,

my sister in England used to watch free digital tv via a Freeview digital box.
But now her LCD comes with Freeview - and she was wondering whether it works in Malaysia, because if it does, then she'll bring it down with her for me to use.

Does anyone know?
Here's the link to the set top box :

Philips DTR220 Ultra Compact Digital Freeview Set Top Box

Appreciate all the experts' help!

That is DVB-T stb, only compatible with mpeg-2. You can use it in some part of Klang Valley to receive test channel RTM. iinm, they broadcast in mpeg-2. If you live in JB, you can also receive MediaCorp channel.

Another thing to note that connection is SCART, you'll need converter for that.

If you live in Klang Valley (RTM channel only available at the moment) or JB, then you can consider but not worth if you want to bring in by courier
Some mid - high end TV model here already have digital tuner. If you plan to buy TV, find the one with integrated DVB-T tuner.

If you really want it, ask your sister to find SCART converter there. Hard to find it here.
something like this http://cgi.ebay.com.my/SCART-MALE-FEMALE-4...S:B:SHOP:MY:105
or with HDMI converter if you want to use with flat panel TV, like this http://www.moresales.com.my/catalog/entry/daxjiewh.shtml.

Our government really slow to push broadcaster to switch to digital. Why can we have analogue switch off timeline by 2015 when the roll out date keep pushed back.

That's some really great advice there, eMKs!
Thank you for this.. Let me talk to my sister and see what's next for this

Added on February 10, 2011, 7:14 pmOk - my sister just said she has plenty of SCART converters so she will bring it over.

i'm just wondering if we can actually watch any shows here?? will we be able to obtain any channels at all?

rtm is currently using dvb-T for their trial broadcast

but TV3 group may be adopting competing and more advance system from Hong Kong/China/macao: DMB-T/H (Digital Multimedia Broadcast-Terrestrial/Handheld), also known as DTMB (Digital Terrestrial Multimedia Broadcast)
