Only stationery can earn money. Otherwise sell school books.
Those shops actually selling books, there are only a few large ones. The small ones, there are only a few. Niche market. Otherwise cannot compete with MPH and gang. Some sell comics (sorry, graphic novel). I see one shop in KL selling cheap chinese books. This post has been edited by dkk: Feb 8 2011, 07:23 PM |

Hi all.
This is a very interesting thread. Anyway, I'll go for online business. There are of course pros and cons doing online business but I'll list down my points:- Pros: - The cost to start the business will be much cheaper - It's easier to manage your store - Save a lot of time - work at home - Business conducted 24/7 - Your store can be accessed from all over the world Cons: - It's going to take some time before you gain trust from your customers - testimonial - Shipping can be very risky and costly - You might work too much - simply because you can work almost everywhere There are maybe some other points too. So molly, if you're going to open your own bookstore soon, I wish you all the best! Cheers! |

I want online service because I always like to search bookstores' online websites to see if they have a particular book I'm looking for.
So far, Kinokuniya's online book search service is the best for me. I can easily find the books I want, because it is listed and most of the time, it is in stock, even if it is left just one book. Unlike MPH, which is a total let down for me. Everytime I search for the book I want, not only they don't have thumbnail photo of the book, they always list it as out of stock. Everything is out of stock. What's the point? Up-to-date database is important. I had been to bookstores whereby online says still got stock available, go there to shop, actually already out of stock. Cheerios and Sugus! |

If we want to open a bookstore, where do we get stock for novels and other books? I'm talking about original version not pirated books version? Can anyone just go to their distributor and say want to buy in bulk? how to know who is the distributor for what books?
