Bought a black perforated back case last week. 3rd casing after original back case and silicon case. I think, this is the best among all my N8 case. All buttons and slots are easily accessible and with all the hole, my N8 can cold down easier. But downside, my N8 easier to collect dust.

QUOTE(jackfruit_05 @ Feb 9 2011, 08:36 AM) Actually u cant blame symbian...Symbian has too many phone to upgrade, android just come out software, the rest is customized by the phone manufacturer. Ios has only 4 or 5 phones only...so easy for them. I believed so. QUOTE(BBXiong @ Feb 9 2011, 09:32 AM) wrong, Symbian foundation also come out with the generic version of Symbian, like google come out with vanilla Android , the rest of the customization are done by phone manufacturer. Android google announce it because they want you to know what's inside, and since a lot of manufacturer are using it, it's like a feature briefing for them as well, while Symbian, now only used by Nokia... create event for what lol.... last time when SE and Samsung are using Symbian, you can ask those that have a Omnia HD, their customization are quite cool iirc from what nicholas shown me Google is a software giant so more focus on software development than phone sales and marketing, while Nokia is a phone manufacturer giant (although not so giant anymore) focusing on assembling phone hardware and integrating phone software. Of course Google can come out many update for Android. Symbian in other case not wholly own by Nokia, each upgrade need to discuss with Symbian partner, so the development got so many red tape. While Android's development is packed with innovation and strict timeline that they actually manage to fullfill, Symbian's is not so good, while they have the idea, they cant seem to get their development timeline right, keep on delay and delay.. But for customization, Nokia really lack of creativity. Comparing Nokia and SE phone with same OS (Symbian 5th), SE have more beautify and customize firmware than Nokia although SE rarely update their firmware. For SE, instead of keep updating firmware, they come out with a really nice customization and almost perfect firmware. While Nokia, give a half heart firmware and let their user hope for firmware update regularly. So, at the end, using Symbian is not the reason for the late update, but Nokia. |

QUOTE(genus @ Feb 9 2011, 07:41 PM) A bit late to comment, just open my computer after a early sleep.I hope they will don't jump to WP7. May be Android. QUOTE We are still too often trying to approach each price range on a device-to-device basis. This what happen when they came out with more than 1 phone for each price range. They lost focus, too many phone model in the market and they can't give regular update promptly. Smartphone need regularly update so user can get the latest working apps and bug fixes. But sadly, this news also mean my N8 probably has short life. |

QUOTE(spikey2506 @ Feb 10 2011, 12:57 AM) Symbian as an OS is excellent, and very resource friendly. Otherwise Angry Birds and NFS Shift won't be that smooth with just 680mhz ARM. They should really overhaul the UI only. Make it on par in terms of smoothness and user friendliness of Android and iOS. That was their mistake. What Nokia's symbian lack is user interface. > 10 years ago with dumb phone, Nokia had the best and friendlier UI. But for smartphone, specially touch screen, they still implement the same UI like early N-series.I bet Nokia had some kind of plan for symbian but they leisurely took to much time to execute them. Planned to introduce Meego phone but kept delaying, so now they lost market share. If they plan to follow other route other than symbian, I hope they will keep coming up with update for N8 for couple of years. |

QUOTE(GKWong @ Feb 10 2011, 10:29 PM) N8 can only play till 720p. if the mkv video is 1080i then cant. and max fps can support is 30fps only. I found that N8 can't play some movie specially those with more 2Gb size. Probably becoz unsupported codec. But for tv series, so far don't have problem even for 720p. |

What I see, for Microsoft, they want to gain more market share but don't have brand name and supporter like Apple. So, come Nokia with losing market share.
While Nokia, realizing building other OS is too time consuming and way beyond their expectation, have no choice but to cooperate with other software giant. So now, Apple vs. Google Vs. Microsoft. |

QUOTE(kyokusanagi @ Feb 12 2011, 11:01 AM) When I bought my N8, I picked it because :1) Great camera 2) It a symbian, easily to move from 5800 to N8 and most app still can work. 3) Promises by Nokia to not abandon Symbian but to improve it, new UI in PR2.0 So, 1 and 2 have no problem with the Nokia+WP7, but the no. 3 really give me a reason to hate Nokia. If they failed to give improve firmware like they promise, I lost my trust. Really hope to use my N8 for another 1-2 years. |

QUOTE(kyokusanagi @ Feb 12 2011, 11:12 AM) Will Nokia release Symbian^3 for 5800, nope.... so same as WP7 for N8. May be darkside can do, but not Nokia. What most N8 users angry are, Nokia promised to give us PR1.1 (which still not available), PR.2.0 and even PR3.0 (this one don't know true or not). So now not sure they will give or not. |

QUOTE(kyokusanagi @ Feb 12 2011, 11:26 AM) Hopefully....Actually, I don't give a damn thing about firmware update bcoz I'm really happy with N8 as it is now. But if can get better performance, stability and UI, why not? One more thing, really hope can unlock just by touching the screen. I means just like the bubble but without to press the button first. |
