Yeap... Legal... Simply because, the ball was kicked already, but it didn't go out either... So long as the ball is still in the field, the ball is still in play... Unless its a penalty shoot-out...

its perfectly legal... theres no rule stating the penalty taker must shoot as hard as he can or on target or must make the keeper save it.

but of course its a risky move that no alot of people will make.

The Henry-pires combo is the first of such that I ever see..too bad they didn't managed to execute it. Is it because Pires put too little power into the pass and as such the ball just moved a bit and rolled back to the same spot? So Henry thought it wasn't played yet and therefore did not attempt a shot and was subsequently cleared by opponent.

as long as the ball is moving forward from the spot while your teammates are still outside the box before the kick is taken..it is legal
