What makes TGV increase their movie ticket up to rm13 per show?

Their cinema ain't premium, no DTS, no THX, the seating is like shit compare to GSC. Why do we need to pay premium price to TGV.

Why no one complain about TGV charging high ticket price compare to GSC.

in terms of pricing, i find that GSC has more "no standard" laugh.gif

2-3 years back i used to purchase their tickets at rm5 each (student price) in summit USJ. but if go MV, each ticket will cost at least rm7

not sure bout TGV though

TGV is not bad seriously.
I face problems with GSC ticketing.
I bought RM12 ticket for the movie Paranormal Activity 2 at Tropicana
and it was MOVIE DAY!! I wasn't sure if MOVIE DAY still exist ==
However, the next day I was forced by my brother to watch with him at Summit USJ. It was only RM10.

Why is there a difference of price?? Besides that GSC at Tropicana Mall has no sound-proof wall. I can hear the next hall's movie sound.
Terrible...

My own opinion =)

tgv way too expensive, in klang b.tinggi, at first tgv only rm11 per tix, now rm14 / rm19(3D) per tix, mbo only rm10 / rm16(3D) per tix, better seat and big screen for 3D

i dont like watching at tgv..so few times going there.esp when i saw their 3D price is higher than Gsc

and to those who complain about GSC price. check la their web. u'll know that they charge the price according to the location. for bigger location like BTS,MV the price is higher.

even in IOI, got 2 different price according to the cinema hall. better cinema hall, the tix will be higher. the small cinema, price lower.

Yes TGV tickets is more expensive, weekends/blockbusters is RM13, you can get RM10 for weekdays i think.

I have no choice because that's the nearest to my place haha, TGV Sunway. The seat is unacceptable if compared to GSC and Cathay, worse still if you get the Studio 11 and 12 hahaha.

Few months back, I was surprise it only cost me RM7 to watch in Cathay Damansara. I was like wow that was like when I was back in the school day with student price of RM5 haha

dot dot dot. do you even know how the reservation system works? GSC only reserves two rows of seats for phone reservation and e-reservation. But for e-payment, you can pick any seat you want. so please do some research before criticizing.

You guys should try the new TGV at 1st avenue. Worth paying extra for the comfort and bigger seat space, bigger leg room. RM12 for normal seat or RM14 for couple seat. And they got the first bean bag seat hall at just RM14.
Heard that other old cinema will undergo renovation.

Edited to update the pricing.

Never happened to me before. I always make sure there are seats available for reservation before making one. You can do that by checking their e-payment. The purple-ish seats are those up for reservation

Newy open shopping complex at Penang. Near Prangin Mall.
Very stylish design but kinda for the upper class with expensive stuff.

Few years back, went to TGV pyramid. I use student card to buy, when paying that time, its RM8!!!

Then i ask, why RM8?, they say its 8, coz normal is 11. I was like WTF, student also 8. I can easily get 5 in summit GSC, its morning weekday... From that time onwards, NO TGV for me, even if i have to watch it another time. The seating also sux to the max, the lower seat backrest very low, didnt even reach my shoulder, while the back seat its so high that it'll bend my neck. Their sound system also very tame. I prefer THX theater.

im gonna boycott tgv now except the one at wangsa walk.yesterday i went to tgv mines.i've tried to do reservation first before i went there but end up they didn't allow any reservation anymore.i was very disappointed bout it and i had to go there early to make it easy to buy ticket.lucky me,when i arrived there the counter got no customers at that time so i just buy my ticket.fyi, tgv the mines had some upgrade so i can notice the fresh new look of it.i expect they upgrade the seats as well and it turns out that the seats were still the same old low backseat and not enough space.what a disappointment.if wanna upgrade your cinema upgrade the whole thing la!why leave out the seats.

thank god the movie is worth watching.watched sini ada hantu fyi.but after this i will never go to tgv again.

lol, I don't even care about the price. Just RM3-5 difference between other cinemas. It's just too much hassle for me to just think so much for that petty amount of money. No offence.

Paid RM14 at Pyramid last November on a working weekday night, never going back again. Evidently, they were trying to make cash cows of their patrons... I guess for shows you need to go to another cinema chain that isn't TGV instead.

TGV cinema is overcharging compare to GSC, MBO or Cathay. There is no THX surround in TGV cinema, but TGV is charging a premium price.

Tgv is a rubbish cinema nowadays. They are not doin well thts why they hv to increase price. Its ridicolous for them to charge rm14 in pyramid with such a lousy cinema . Small seats , lousy screen etc etc

I've been to TGV Kepong to watch a 3D movie, and there was no previews at all. As in, just go in, movie starts. Is it the same for other TGV cinemas for 3D? The price is also more expensive than GSC.

It has always been GSC > TGV

Didn't notice that until last night when I try to book at ticket at TGV sunway. Blardy hell its RM14 means its 29 for a pair if booking via internet.

Its been a while since I last go to TGV and I guess this will continue for a longer while.

tgv in pyramid always have problem. half way in the middle of the show, blackout. but tgv's popcorn is much nicer than gsc. sad.gif and tgv is charging rm14 for new shows. i think i rather buy a blue ray(pirated) which is about that price too, and watch at home with loud surround sound, and a comfy couch. tgv seating is bad.

and to share this with u guys, last time my sister and i visited one of the tgv cinemas(forgot which one), the seats infront were pretty close to the ones behind, so this weird dude starting to stretch his hand so wide, and was slowly approaching to touch my sister's leg(with the lights off,but i so happened to witness it). i told my sister then, that some freako's hand was about to touch her leg, and the guy immediately placed him hands back where it belongs. i should have asked her to step over his hands with her heels.

TGV especially in Pyramid is overpriced.
If not for the convenience sake, I would not have gone there for movies.
But hell, the other nearest cinema in Subang is GSC Summit which their condition is comparable to a haunted house.
Sigh, so I got no choice.

I found this site online selling TGV ticket vouchers for RM7 for a ticket, valid till March 31st, for any movie any time any TGV cinema.
Might help with the expensive overpriced TGV tickets for those who are forced through it since there are no better choices nearby...

Personally I just avoid TGV now and go for GSC... except when I'm in Ipoh, and TGV's the only decent cinema there =(

I had my terrible experience with TGV where there's one cinema (forgot the cinema room number), the seats really "condong" one. I'm like "is this a stadium"? lol

by the way; can I use my Maybank Debit Card to buy tickets from TGV website?

I saw there's option for Credit Card (got CVC, blabla). Because I seldom buy tickets from TGV via online. I preferred GSC but shit happens. I need to go Aeon Bukit Tinggi tomorrow. Haha

I noticed you can now buy tickets using paypal. Anyone tried it out? If you use credit card you need to bring your card for verification. What about paypal then?

Just tried the beanieplex at tgv 1st avenue. So comfy. You can seriouly fall asleep while watching the movie. It's a nice concept and experience. Everyone should give it a try.

Yes, can use any debit card, same manner like credit card (for maybank debit card make sure you have activated the online secure shopping thingy at m2u, otherwise it can't be used online at all).

I am still phobia (lol!) about buying tickets from TGV, last time d transaction was marked 'unsuccessful' and yet they still charged my card TWICE!. Their online system is really lousy rclxub.gif.

Totally agree with this. Finally someone speak up. TGV cinemas charge till up to RM14 for the latest movie. I watched the Big Mama movie and it cost me RM14 cause they said that it's a new movie. And I watched Black Swan few days back. It costs me frigging RM13 though the movie has been released for almost a month.

Besides, TGV cinemas in KL sucks till the max. Charge us expensive tickets but the things provided is nowhere near GSC. The sound system, the seating, and the cinema room. For example, Sunway Pyramid TGV. The cinema room is so small and the stairs is so steep that you can die falling from the top. Besides, at night, in a few of their cinema rooms, you can hear clubs' music basses blasting. Probably it's because of the clubs located below the cinema rooms. But this also explains their poor sound cancelling system. And the seats sucks to the max. Small and uncomfortable. I'm sure someone would have the same experience as mine.

But on the other hand, TGV cinema in Ipoh is the best. I don't mind being charged up to RM14 or more expensive than GSC. Come to TGV Ipoh, it's on par with any great cinemas in KL especially after their renovations lately.

What makes TGV increase their movie ticket up to rm13 per show?

Their cinema ain't premium, no DTS, no THX, the seating is like shit compare to GSC. Why do we need to pay premium price to TGV.

Why no one complain about TGV charging high ticket price compare to GSC.
*
Agree that TGV movie ticket include student ticket is VERY expensive compare to GSC.
Last time ( Forgot when), when i went movie with my friend, they charge RM10++ per show, I was shock.. rclxub.gif
And it just a normal day but not celebrating any festival on that day.
The seating is very very poor...space between the chair is too narrow..
Conclusion, all cinema better than TGV...

Tried 1st Avenue Penang last saturday. The difference between them and GSC are seats are slightly bigger and spacious for people to move along the row. But then i think thats not so significant as i paid RM12 for 1 movie compared to GSC RM10. =\

yeah movie tix across the board are generally expensive nowadays... we support the movie by going to cinema and buying original blulays, and then they take advantage by raising prices gradually.
what i dont know is, who decides ticket prices in Msia?? is it the cinema operators themselves that want to rake in higher profit, or studios and distributors setting minimum price they want to take per person thus setting a high or low price?

Added on August 5, 2011, 4:08 pmmiss the old days when movie tix are around rm6-7 per person... and that was what, less than 8 years ago?

hmm... i think they hv the location whr ppl hv no choice to pay more?

eg: Sunway Pyramid... and the nearest gsc cinema -> summit~ and most of the students around especially international students doesnt hv cars and took a taxi to else whr is far more expensive!

KLCC whr some ppl just lazy to go else where?

just my 2 cents~ smile.gif

any expiry or validity date for the card?
*
It is written in the Term&Conditions:
Valid for 3 months from date of issue.

Anyway the good thing abt movieholic is that u can use it to watch those New Movie (Non-3D) which normally cost like RM14 or even more for only RM8.33. ; )

vexus,

I am very dissapointed with TGV cinema. During weekdays they don't have senior citizen ticket like GSC cinema. I am very sad to look at my mom's face when the counter girl told her there is no senior citizen ticket. My mom don't want to watch movie at TGV cinema again. She told me to buy DVD & watch at home to safe some money. Lets boycott TGV cinema.

yes.

TGV is seriously damn expensive.
even student's rate is not cheap. Only rm9.
When I was in Summit, I bought a ticket + showing my student card,
I only had to pay rm6. It was very cheap.

I don't understand TGV service as well.

Need to check t&c, i freally can be use for all the new/blockbuster release on weekdays or weekend, its totally worth it. Pay around Rm 8 for a ticket better than RM14. Duh how i miss the daily sugar deal, rm 8 ticket for any show any time.

I agree, Its definitely worth it. But i figured i could makes use of it fully mainly because my house is very near Sunway Pyramid. I could secure seats in matters of minutes.
Come to think of it, Its doesn't really help online purchasers, or those who live quite a distance away frm any TGV Cinemas or seldom go for movies.

Actually, tgv at Wangsa walk is not bad. But its only good if u lives around the area. While its nothing to shout about, it's definitely more spacious than klcc.

For me, I'll buy the movieholics card next time. My gf usually goes to the celebrities fitness in Wangsa walk 2-3 times a week. So it's quite comfortable to get weekends/fridays tickets on weekdays. I'll only get it after I finish up my mydeal tgv voucher blush.gif

yes cant buy online using it. but as for me, rarely buy online (rushing time sometimes), the best is to book only (like in gsc) as if couldnt make it, money not burn. biggrin.gif Depend on person.

so far no movie termed like this. ironically, i usually use it for blockbuster movie, since it always priced higher than normal movies

TGV is great if u have Citibank card. One ticket RM10 only. U got buy 1 free 1 on Friday as well. Its also good for those using Maxis coz got buy 1 free 1 as well on anyday of the week if not mistaken.

Other than that, TGV is really over price cinema.. RM14 per ticket really cannot justify lo.

Last week i went for movie at sunway pyramid. Its been awhile since i watch movie there. Honestly i was disappointed. The seats are not comfy at all and the sound system was overblast. I expect more from their recent renovation but instead it can't even compete wif most of the GSC cinema.

I wont even enter TGV cinema these days if not becoz of i'm a Citibank card holder...

It hve been 2 years since i watch in tgv..
Most if it is gsc and cathay

Reason
Tgv at sunway..long que . Sit not comfortable at all . U can kick people head .And price is expensive n last time i ask bout student price.. She say student more expnsive..wtf?

Gsc so easy no que,i mean its faster..summore can use gsc apps..more easier..
And the price is cheap although it migh be difference with other gsc but still cheap than tgv.and i think the best gsc is ou.. Nice seats but the commercial before movie is darn too long but only for ou gsc, summit gsc no long commercials..popcorn not that good. Lots of biji. ..but their combo 3 is the best among all cinema.

Cathay is expensive .but cheaper than tgv..more better seats n popcorn is sweet but i like.

Mbo is expensive similar to tgv.. Students rm 7. But its cold and seats are nice..popcorn quite good too.1 thing i dont like is the tickets is fcking bad quality.its a paper like a receipt paper ..dunno but i went to mbo subang parade and i think its a bad idea to make cinema there.. Now more jam like summit usj already..
Last time it was a better shopping place with family

You should try out TGV Sunway again. They've just renovated and I think the seats now are more comfortable (at least the one in IMAX because I've tried it out). They now have IMAX, beanie, and even premiere class. Price is still bloody expensive though.

So far I've only watched Mission Impossible in IMAX and the audio is pretty awesome. Haven't watched any 3D movies in IMAX yet so I can't tell if there's any difference from GSC.
So far Sunway is the only one with IMAX but I heard TGV 1Utama will also have one once it re-opens in May or June.

Yeah TGV themselves mentioned that they will re-open in 1U sometime this year. The cinema could be on a different floor then. I'm not sure because I haven't been to 1U for a long time.
GSC don't have IMAX though... unsure.gif

No competition at all. GSC and TGV are controlling the movie business and both are increasing the ticket price.
We need creative company like "Digi" or "Air Asia" to help to reduce the cost

I don't mind paying a little extra if its convenient and comfortable. What I really hate about TGV is purchasing tickets from their website. Seriously have you guys tried it? They take such a long time to update the showtimes and everytime I had to chant prayers to make sure my transaction is successful. Every week I hear horror stories of people getting failed transaction and having trouble getting refunds. Happened to me once.

at RM8 per ticket, who wouldn't?

since they're earning in USD or GBP, you have to compare it to their money, not ours.

Yeah back row cost extra RM2-3. I paid RM23 for Iron Man 3 IMAX, one row of seats below cost RM24 or 25. Very weird indeed.

Went and read up their fb page...jack up the backseat price in the name of "value for money"

What's even sadder is people will still pay for it and the price will stick

At least you don't have to pay extra to choose any seat you like in GSC nod.gif unlike TGV. But TGV has IMAX, that is the plus point there.

Maybe it's worth for IMAX...but for normal cinema, a big no no

TGV's official response on fb

QUOTE
Kindly be informed that we will be extending the preffered zone for citibank customers from next Monday ya. The tiered ticket pricing is a system TGV cinemas is introducing to distinguish different pricing on our tickets based on the seat location, effective 18 April. We are continuosly improving our facilities and services to provide the best cinematic experience for our customers, hence value for your money. This is cater to our customers who would like to enjoy the movie but at a more affordable price. Thanks!

Jack up back seat price and claim the front seat price more affordable.

i think tgv popcorn taste nicer.. it is soft but crunchy and sweet just the way i like it...
there is too much of uncooked popcorn kernel for gsc popcorn.. i hope it would not pop in my stomach.

also, i like tgv because it is not crowded.
i can put my leg on the front seat.. like a boss... hihi...

Yesterday I went for a screening at TGV too and was shocked to learn about the tier pricing set by TGV. So basically each ticket for a normal screening cost as high as RM16 if you choose middle seats doh.gif

That offer is only valid for seats for the first four row from the front. Why else would it be so dirt cheap? There's definitely a catch.

Their IMAX is definitely an advantage. They also have beanieplex. Some people also like their Royale Popcorn or something.
I actually prefer GSC but since TGV is just next door, I don't have much of a choice. At the end it depends on whether you want to save money but travel far to watch a movie, or pay more for the sake of convenience.

The worse is now they practice price discrimination.
The 4-5 rows from behind is RM15 while the front one is RM13.
This is really terrible.

why lucky when we're paying more?

unless you're earning money from that particular country, we're definitely paying more.

i simply googled some american cinema chain and found that they sell tickets at USD9.75 (night time showing)

here it's 12-13(depending on cinema.)

also googled a UK cinema, and their price is ₤8.75

again, we're paying more.

Of the cinemas I visited, TGV generally more comfortable than GSC.
Larger seat, thicker sofa and most importantly more leg space for tall people like me.
I think it's worth the extra 2 ringgits.
I dunno, maybe just cinema in my area..

Agree, some said we are paying more for the ticket which i think not fair to say tat
Let's say a luxury good here excluding government tax is rm1k,
try surf any UK/US online site and you might find out it shows 250.00 pound/euros pound, thats the idea.

now do u think comparing a 8 - 9 pound/euro to RM11-13 movie ticket is fair? biggrin.gif

Replacement cost. What else can you get with 8-9 quid or 9-10 bucks. A big mac meal in the UK costs around 4-5 quid so that's 2 big mac meals for the price of 1 movie ticket. Here's 1 to 1. Then again, what's more expensive - their movie ticket or our cost of living? That's another matter to talk about but my point is if we're willing to spend rm10 for a normal meal / starbucks / even your popcorn set - it's really inexpensive to catch a movie for the same amount.

Totally irrelevant.

I'm specifically talking about movie tickets, not how much(value it holds) it compares to purchasing something else.

What does it matter how much the same amount of money can buy them elsewhere?

Dollar to dollar, were paying more per movie ticket than they are, and that's a fact.

Other aspects of life/the economy are completely irrelevant to my post.

not sure bout TGV pricing. today we bought Hangover 3, watch at Club cinema in Sunway at RM16 per ticket. Quite reasonable I think. Considering the environment is really exclusive and the seat is so big and so comfy and yeah it really feels good cuz the whole cinema is huge but cater for an amount of people only. However its movie day today though.

On GSC side, we bought a movie ticket - Fast 6 yesterday @ the price of RM15 per tick. Crazily priced.

Who can we file a complain regarding the crazy price hike?

I used to be so damn proud of Malaysia cuz we can easily afford to watch movie cuz its so damn cheap and affordable. But right now, RM15 for one show?! Its getting more and more expensive until an extend we have to think twice before purchasing the ticket!

You know, days like : "I wanna hang out but I'm so damn broke! So hey, lets watch a movie! Its only RM8 So damn cheap and enjoyable'' But right now RM15 is like the price of watching a 3D movie already.

you should re-read the posts you reply to, preferably before actually replying to it.

when people talk about apples, talk about apples.

dont go on about oranges and durian.

value is only valuable when compared relatively. the value of rm12 for a movie ticket is completely useless unless it's being compared to its replacement cost - i assume you know better what else it can be replaced with. in terms of dollar to dollar - yes it is more expensive then the UK/US, but as agreed, what isn't? so why the complain? if anything, a mere 33% increase on dollar value to watch a movie here compared to the UK/US is not expensive at all considering the premium that we're paying for everything else in Msia - think your subway sandwiches, mcdonalds, starbucks, cigarettes, cafes, apparel, cars - you get the drift. i'm not gonna bring out the figures but let you figure yourself. i'll rest my case. was nice coming back to this forum. cheers.

please re-read my original post(the one you actually quoted)
the person i quoted considers himself lucky when looking at how much we spend on a movie ticket compared to people in other countries.

he's not talking about anything else.

just how much we spend on a ticket.

which prompted my response(the post you originally quoted)

why feel lucky when we're paying more for the same thing?

it doesn't matter what else you can buy with it, the fact is for that object(the ticket, in this case) you're paying (more or less)above the average that a citizen of any country pays.

so why feel lucky?

and to borrow your previous post, which item, dollar to dollar is cheaper in Msia compared to UK/US?

nothing.

so why feel lucky?

we're not lucky.at all.

it had been months since the last time i went to gsc..
but i did anyway a few hours ago...
at first i'm really happy because the price (ticket and popcorn) really cheap..
but now i remember why i don't like gsc...
the seats a bit hard for my liking and the popcorn taste like foot.. i spit out most of my popcorn..
i love popcorn.. a bad popcorn is a turn off for me... so gsc sucks.. tgv win... smile.gif

TGV seats sux...

tried to like it but every TGV cinema i went sux... the seats are too straight and my neck feels uncomfortable... if u sit too low, 2 hours later ur neck could strain so badly that it hurts for the rest of the day...

now that the TGV seats pricing has been revised, can totally forget about watching movies in TGV unless it's about IMAX.... can't brain why they split the hall to normal and premium seating category..

wtf?!

I went to TGV Sunway Pyramid.

IMO, seat cramped, Sound system not good as GSC. Ticket is really expensive.

Most of the time I go to TGV Sunway Pyramid. I think they've improved a lot after they renovated about 2 years ago. Previously I always go far away to GSC even though TGV is just beside my house.

TGV is opening a new IMAX hall in Johor end of this month and is said to be the biggest one in Malaysia. They'll have another IMAX in Penang middle of next year.
