hi guys, i'll be heading to melbourne soon. just wondering if the license has to be an International Driving Permit(IDP) issued by JPJ. contacted Hertz call center and the agents say a valid driving document in english is required and sadly as all of us know, ours is in BM. also looking to save rm150 if possible appreciate any advice from all experts here!

You can just go ahead and use your Malaysia Driving license. No need to head to JPJ and convert to International license.
