Kind interested in getting some gashapon figures, but dont know where to go. Unless someone can point me in the right direction (as in local stores?). I know places like Anime-Tech have them, just wondering if there are any others offering cheaper prices?

Gashapons refer only to those figures which you can get inside plastic capsules. Because of the fact that they're packed like that, naturally they'd be smaller. Of course, chances are you'd never get those plastic capsules here in malaysia, cause retailers often buy in bulk to provide complete sets to buyers. Therefore you'll get them packed in plastic wrappings. Gashapons are usually the lowest in terms of quality, and hence they are the cheapest form of figures.

Trading figures usually come in nicely packed boxes (right infested?), but sizes also range. Some could be as tall as 8-10cm, but there are shorters ones as well. Quality wise, these are usually better than gashapons, but not as detailed or as nicely painted as PVC figures.

PVC figures are usually larger figures that come pre-painted, and no assembly is required (again, usually). They are usually packed in nice boxes, and they have a high degree of quality.

Resin kits are usually unpainted figures, and assembly is normally required. You'll need to assemble them, and THEN paint them. The material is kinda like plaster of paris or hard clay.

RM60 for the whole set is considered cheap already >_>. The cheapest price around I could find for a single gashapon figure would cost RM8 (for those that are priced at 200yen, like the ichigo 100% gasha that you see)

If you think the ichigo 100% gasha set was expensive, this is gonna cost even more.
There's two shops over here in Malacca that sells the whole set, and both of them charged RM85 for it (mainly due to it's popularity, I'd reckon >_>)

I wouldn't consider the tenjotenge set to be gorgeous though, just look at it for yourself. The product quality pales in comparison to other recently made stuffs:

Saber 1/8 prepainted PVCs should cost no more than RM130. As for Rin, RM210.

I mean, even hobby link Japan sells them according to its original retail price (around RM122 and RM200 respectively):

Actually, that's a head of an RX-178; my first 1/100 MG that I phailed horribly (don't bother asking. I was 14 year old n00b back then. Waste of money...). If I have the time, I want to learn about making battle-damage effects on Gundams so that I could make a good use of whatever I can do with it now. I do have an airbrush. Quite a cheap one from the infamous German brand Revell for just under RM300.

Unfortunately, for the next one and a half years, I won't have any time to build models. T_T

Completely mint. Comes with all of them bundled up in a plastic, with all of them unopened in their plastic packagings (or at least that's what I assume. Since every fricking gasha set I bought so far are packaged like that tongue.gif)

Oh well, hopefully if they could sell it at that kind of price, others might follow, and eventually, I might get that 1/144 HG Strike Rouge +IWSP that I always wanted for 50 bucks too (that's being sold at RM79 right now >_>).

Anyway, for clarity's sake, those bleach figurines you said are trading figures. Don't mix up gashapons and trading figures. Gashapons are usually cheaper (minimum 100yen), comes in a capsule, only available via. gashapon dispenser machines. Trading figures are more expensive (the minimum I've saw so far are 300yen each), usually have better quality/paintjob/sculp to justify their price, comes in a nice little box, and have a piece of cheap china-made, tasteless candy in it (although most companies dropped the candy-in-a-box policy sometime ago already... except Bandai)

i just started this month (yeah yeah i'm a late bloomer). so far i've only got one SD sasuke TF, the ichigo 100% gashapon set (you can get the pictures in this thread a few pages back) and a set of girls bravo gashas which i've yet to take pictures of.

wanted to get the bleach TF set, but sold out already. i was late by ONE DAY DAMMIT!! sad.gif

and now i'm still waiting for infested's reply on the status of the tenten gashas, although he's mentioned that he's gotten no reply so far.

sigh...a man's gotta keep hoping.

I'd take it if I were you. It's hard for such wonderful prepainted masterpieces to come by. Heck, I don't mind spending hundreds of bucks for a piece of stupid 18cm Gundam model that I have to assemble and paint by myself, so why mind spending that extra few bucks on getting it?

well it's not just whether the figures are well made or not, i'd only like to own figures that i can relate to, e.g. animes i've watched or games i've played. but still, price is a major factor for me, cause i've just started, so i wanna start small. sure, i might regret what i'm saying now someday, but right now it makes sense to at least not be too ambitious yet. smile.gif

btw, those my hime figures are nicely made! love the facial expressions! and yeah, i agree with you on the bandai figures. they look rather plastic-y, not like the yujin ones.

i realise that RM95 is expensive, but since those figures are rare i figured it'd be worth the price. besides, i've seen them, and i think they are of decent enough quality.

just bought my tenten gasha set 3 today. man, the bouncing bewbs are hypnotising. ph34r.gif

anyways, this will be the first and last time i buy stuff from DC. i find the guy running the place to be rude. somemore he purposely wanna jack up the price to me. i hate people like this who think that the customers are stupid enough to fall for their tricks. shakehead.gif

the OTHER natsume aya bust figure. this one looks really good from upfront, but from the side it looks the worst, cause the bust can be obviously seen jutting out. sweat.gif

Anyway, today I just realised just how awesome a decent toy display cabinet, complete with shiny yellow light bulbs could be. I just went to this comic shop I used to go to, and they've undergone a major renovation recently, and they started selling all sorts of toys and stuffs (they even have two of that 1/6 Kasumi prepainted, and the full set of the ANA girls in stock). I really liked how they displayed the toys. They're all kept inside this HUEG shiny glass cabinet that's located in the middle of the shop, and there's like a dozen of those classy yellow light bulbs in it, creating a nice tone on all the figurines on display. And yes, it's so HUEG, the whole glass cabinet stretched about 1/3 the length of the shop D:

Perhaps I could have a visit there again this Sunday and take gazillions of photos, and post it all here just because it's so awesome (though it's still a pity they insist on selling the stuffs expensively. All the toys are sold for a minimum of RM80 per set... >_>)

edit: and providence, I meant by "post pics of your figurines and PVC(s) the way you put them on the table/floor/cabinet/TV set/whatever" I wasn't expecting you to take out every single figurine and taking individual shots of them (I could get tonnes of those kind of photos from official sites of those figurine manifactures, they bore me till death).

yeah...i think 69.90 is really cheap. These models are from Banpresto. If I'm not mistaken, Orihime and the earlier Renji was made by MegaHouse.

I think the guy meant by RM69.90 per set (assuming that the Bleach set is a trading figure, with some other figurines that's not shown).

It's not hard. It's just too expensive (or around Malacca anyway, I've seen two shops here wanting RM79.90 for the each of the TT pinky)... although it should have costed RM60 (retail price's around 1400yen)

Gashapon - toy-in-a-little-plastic-capsule-thingy. They're very cheap (usually 100 to 500yen per capsule)and small, and they're sold in vending machines in Japan, and the vending machines usually looks something like this:

(trivial knowledge: in Japan, Seven Eleven would ocasionally make a gashapon set of their own, which usually contains a miniature of the seven eleven shops. They're only sold at seven eleven outlets outlets, and they're sold in boxes, not vending machines. The whole capsule is colored in green to prevent anyone from collecting a set easily)

Trading Figure - toy-in-a-fancy-box-thingy. Usually larger than a gashapon, and more expensive (300~700yen). Sold at hoby stores:

PVC - a kind of plastic, Polyvinyl Chloride. Usually refers to the even more expensive (1500~3000+yen), much more larger (usually 18~26+ cm, depending on scale and character). Always comes in a fancy box with thick plastic cover outline on the figure. Examples:

As for which one being 'better', well, the whole 'better' part is subjective, as there's no universal law that more expensive/larger = better. It all depends on your taste and liking. I mean, some gashapon, despite being very cheap (lol binchotan series), has a far better quality when compared to a trading figure that's much more expensive (lol the recently produced trading figure by Banpresto that features the Dokuro Tenshi girl, they all have crap quality), and vice versa for some other cases. It's you who determines if a certain figurine is better than the rest.

Hmm.okies...basically Gashapon=capsules, trading figures=medium size PVC/plastic models, PVC=larger collections, better quality? models...

Hmm, ya...no universal standards on bigger/more expensive=better. Collect on my own taste, got it. thanks infested_ysy.

will go and have some look around KL this weekend. currently frequent visits on DC and Stardust only. anymore other recommendation places? Thank you all so much :bow:

And yes, btw, anyone here knows where to buy those glass/ acrylic dispaly cupboards for a cheaper price? would love to have one to dispaly all my collections instead of placing them open-aired on my desk which most of the time collecting dusts. sweat.gif

Don't mind the prices, I haven't took updated photos of the stuffs they sell, and most of the stuffs got their price lowered recently (like the popotan set is selling at RM70 right now). More pictures here:

And there's another comic/gaming shop that also sells figurines and PVC(s), named Teen@Com or something, located just around 300m or so from the Star Bookstore that I've mentioned just now. The shop's much more classier (lol engrish), with things like a HUEG profesionally done glass cabinet in the centre of the shop, stretching to 3/4 of the shop's length, and some helluva professional lighting settings. They sell their stuffs a little bit expensive, though (loose gashapons goes for RM10 a piece, Star Bookstore sells them at RM8~RM10).

Yeah, forgot that part. Not all gashapons are in capsules. Due to the random nature of the capsule vending, many are now selling the whole set of the figurines altogather in one large bag, with the figurines still in their initial tiny plastic wrapping, but without the plastic capsules.

Um.... you could always ask the locals for the location of Sekolah Menengah Gajah Berang and look for the Star Bookstore opposite the school (it's on one of the shoplots on the business park building directly opposite the school, and it has a large yellow and blue sign with the words "STAR BOOKSTORE" printed on it). And do check by Teen@Com too, which is located near the same place (say... 10 minutes' walk from Star Bookstore?).

For Teen@Com, ask the locals on the location for Popular bookstore located at Jalan Hang Tuah. It's just a few shoplots beside Popular.

I think in Malaysia that Japanese gashapons are sold in sets. I was at XL-Shop Ampang way back in 2003 and i saw them repacking gashapons. They opened the plastic capsule "eggs" and take the figurines out and repack them in sets.
The system might change now since there's a growing demand for complete sets by collectors.

If anyone is looking for the Tenten Pinky, it's being sold in Kinokuniya KLCC. Just went there last week.

Well... if you are really lucky, you could get them in their original capsule form, or heck, get them from an original vending machine. I bought a pair of the Elric brothers gasha by Bandai (the first set) in their mint capsules sometime last year, and I used to saw 4 vending machines stacked togather in some convention in Malacca's Mahkota Parade during 1998, which has sailor moon figurines and super robot wars stuffs (which was awesome as hell. I turned 4 times, and got myself two Voltes V, a Gaiking, and a Getter Poseidon).

The vending machines uses 2 shiny tokens per turn, and each token costs RM2 (and knowing the jackassery of Malaysian consumers, many kids and teenagers alike thought they could cheat the machine by putting in two 50 cent coins, which eventually caused the coin slot to jam, and the staffs needed to open the coin slot to remove the stupid 50 cents. Eventually a guy was constantly standing by the machine to prevent such happening)

They're expensive as crap, hard to purchase as crap due to limited run, hard to assemble, as they're not perfect snap-fit kits like Bandai's plastic model lines. What's more, they require sanding, priming, coloring and all the mad skillz in the whole modelling world to even make it look as nice as the standard mass produced prepainted 1/6 PVC(s) available in the market.

I've yet to come across a genuine gashapon vending machines like those in Japan. There's plenty of cheap ass made in China stuff that charges RM1 per capsule here in Kepong.
RM4 per gashapon is cheap. drool.gif Now you'd have to pay RM60 per set of 5 or 6 depending on brand and figure. That's about RM10 each. sweat.gif

Get to melaka, ask for the directions to either:
- Popular bookstore at Jalan Hang Tuah (there's only two Popular branches in Melaka, one in Jalan Hang Tuah, another one in Jaya Jusco. Most locals should know the location)
- Catholic High School at Jalan Hang Tuah
- Fajar shopping complex
- Telekom outlet at Jalan Hang Tuah

The Teen@Com shop is located at one of the shoplots in the business park (several shoplots near Telekom outlet and Popular bookstore). It shouldn't be hard to miss it, since it's the only shop around that has a huge glass cabinet beside its entrance, with loads of stuffs inside the cabinet (green blob plushies, Spawn figures, some anime stuffs, a 1/6 military figurine etc.)
