In my opinion:

It is very hard for a bullet to kill people instantly.

Lets say:

1. Bullet hit your arm. Nothing harmful except pain. If the bullet pass through, even better. If the bullet calibre is big enough, your hand is a history. Die of massive bleeding. Your life expectancy, 10 minutes tops without any medical help.

2. Bullet hit your leg. Depends on which is the location. If its passed through the muscle, its good, but if its get lodge inside, necrosis, blood clot or deep vein thrombosis that will give you brain hernia, stroke) , massive tissue death, bone fracture etc could easily happen. BUT, if the bullet hit one of your femoral artery ( carries the fresh, high pressure blood from heart) , AND if you are in a standing position, you will be dead fish in 3 minutes tops. If you are lying, apply some pressure, 10 minutes for you to say goodbye if they are no medical help.

3. Lets say the bullet hit your torso/abdoment and the upper part of your groin, it really depends on what type of bullet hit you and where is the impact location. Most likely, once you are hit, you will faint out due to shock trauma. Your body register a lot of pain sensoric information to your brain, which caused it to malfunction and then shut down for restart. Most probably, you will die in massive blood lost. A hit in the heart, you are as good as dead. In this stage, you are only lost your conscious, that means, you did not die due to hit by a bullet. You die because of massive blood lost due to a bullet hit you.

Most weapon manufacturer had develop bullets that will change its trajectory once it reaches different medium. Example, a bullet fired through the air landed on your liver, once it hits your liver, a medium change happen (air to your body (liquid+solid)). The medium change altered the bullet trajectory. So, its now not only hitting your liver, the bullet could also pass through your pancreas and stop at your intestine. Three place hemorrhage (inner bleeding) instead of one.

4. The worst case come here. Bullet land on your head. First, know that a bullet hit your head does not mean you are 100% dead. It really depends where the bullet goes, but wherever it is, you stand on a very slim chance. The juice come now, a shot in the head, can only INSTANTLY kill people is a show land on your occipital lobe. Occipital lobe located between your eyes and same level with the temple (inline with your eye brow). Why INSTANTLY ? because occipital lobe controls your body involuntary movement, such as heart beating. So, hit the occipital lobe, the next very second, you are dead, cause your heart does no longer beat.
