just color i think..the pastel looks childish a bit (IMO) well else matte looks bit more stylish? lol pastel most likely more for girls or something. haha matte has a slightly rough surface while pastel is smooth. prefer to hold matte than pastel for me

Yes, easiest is by syncing with google. Create a google account, login with your phone, and your contacts will be synced with google's server.

If you look at Settings > Accounts and Sync > Manage Accounts, you can sync gmail,, calendar, contacts and picasa
