U still need the DVD. Loading time migh be faster n te disc drive will not be too noisy. Maybe expand the disc drive lifespan as well? Other than installing and save games, can use it for storing DLC like demos n game addons. I'm using the 4th and find that it's not enough, with the vast availability of DLC sad.gif

ok. 2 methods of games installation

1. by dvd media
games purchase from retail outlets, can be installed into the harddisk. U will STILL need the disc upon booting up the game for DRM issues.

2. by Games On demand/Xbox Live Arcade & Indie
This method, games are downloaded into ur harddisk (no media required to boot up the game). The game is attached to ur gamertag. redownloading the game to another console is possible but u need the gamertag that purchase them to play

HDD price is droped dramatically, i think can bargain around RM160 - RM180 for 250GB HDD from any KL shop which sell Xbox 360 HDD.

I used 20GB HDD for my Xbox Slim 4GB.
U need open the HDD casing, it works.
So if u have old Xbox HDD from Old Xbox version (20/60/120GB) it can be used so don't throw it away.

If ur using Non Microsoft HDD like the Western Digital, u need to pre-flashed first. There's risk of being banned though so just buy original ones.
