QUOTE(Mgsrulz @ Oct 15 2011, 12:43 PM) Maximize their profit? They never got money from the second hand sale to begin with. the irony is, they never lose money either... except for some games that depends heavily on online capability... there is some maintaining cost to that, hence the online pass.. the only problem is with single player focused games.. its either to buy new, to support the developer? or to buy used one to save money? all depends on the user perspective, some care some dont... just like story books.. no matter how this thing is debated, is just a matter of how you view it...

I think the right word here is "Reduced Profit". And this is more apparent in video games as developers is finding ways to encourage first hand sales via DLC. Technically selling whatever item that you own is not illegal, selling copyrighted material that you own like books, DVDs and Blu-ray is not clearly defined as illegal by law.
And video games license agreement was never challenged in court, part of the reason is that it's probably not worth it for publisher to sue, and another reason is that they are not even sure that can win in a lawsuit. thats why used games were still tolerated by the industry. And one thing for sure is, if a game is good enough, they will have sales on the DLC even for used games buyers.
Their idea is: "If I can't make you pay 100 bucks new, I can still let you buy it 50 bucks used, and earn another 30 bucks from you via DLC".
Same thing with PSN sharing, if they can't make you pay the full price for the game, they will make do with 20% of the price, the money still eventually went to the developers in a more controlled manner.

US/Europe release confirmed - February 22, 2012. QUOTE Sony previously said that the PlayStation Vita would launch Dec. 17 in Asia and Japan in time for the holidays. Hundreds of people lined up in Tokyo just to get in line for the presale.
"But today, we're announcing that it will be available in North America, Latin America and Europe on Feb. 22, just four months away," said Jack Tretton, chief executive of Sony Computer Entertainment of America. Sony will price the Vita at $249 for the Wi-Fi version and $299 for the Wi-Fi/3G version, Tretton said. Source: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,23949...bid=h9Qv_VFTyIr

i received an email from Sony Malaysia about PSV on Tuesday. They have no idea when PSV will be launched in Malaysia. They requested me to contact HK Sony PS Department. So, i don't think that we can get it here by end of this year.
