Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has announced Made in Dagenham for Blu-ray release on March 29. This film is based on the true story of the women in a Ford factory in England in 1968, who fought for their rights to equal pay. It stars Sally Hawkins, Bob Hoskins and Miranda Richardson.

The Tourist Blu-ray Announced

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has announced The Tourist for Blu-ray release on March 22, in a single-disc edition and a Blu-ray/DVD combo pack. This international romantic thriller, a remake of the French film Anthony Zimmer, stars Johnny Depp as a mild-mannered American on vacation in Venice who is befriended by a breathtakingly beautiful woman with a mysterious secret (Angelina Jolie).

'Scooby-Doo: Aloha Scooby-Doo!' & 'Scooby-Doo and the Cyber Chase' Blu-rays Announced

Two more Scooby-Doo mysteries are coming to high-definition this April.

In an early announcement to retailers, Warner Brothers is working on 'Scooby-Doo: Aloha Scooby-Doo!' to Blu-ray on April 5.

The Blu-ray will feature 1080p video, a Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack, and supplements include: An Evening with the Scooby-Doo Gang: cast Q&A and The Wiki-Tiki Tail of Aloha Scooby Doo!

On the same date, Warner Brothers will also be bringing 'Scooby-Doo and the Cyber Chase' to Blu-ray.

This release will feature 1080p video, a Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack, and supplements include: The Making of Scooby-Doo and the Cyber Chase and Music video: Scott Innes, "Scooby and Shaggy Love to Eat."

Suggested list price for each Blu-ray is $19.98.



Scooby-Doo: Aloha Scooby-Doo


Plot Synopsis: Scooby-Doo and the Gang head to Hawaii for a big surfing contest that is disrupted by the grumblings of a nearby volcano and the disappearance of a surfing hottie. Scooby-Doo and the Gang romp around the jungle, snorkel, paraglide and surf their buns off, as they battle the mysterious appearance of the "Wiki-Tiki," trying to solve the mystery before the volcano erupts.

The Outlaw Josey Wales, More Eastwood Blu-ray in June

Once again, Warner Home Video will celebrate the birthday of actor/director Clint Eastwood by releasing some of his back catalog on Blu-ray on June 7. The standout is the 1976 western The Outlaw Josey Wales, which will come out in a Digibook edition. The studio will also release two Eastwood two-disc double features, each including a title new to Blu-ray: Every Which Way But Loose/Any Which Way You Can and Firefox/Heartbreak Ridge.

Fox Executive Discusses Blu-ray Plans

During an interview with a Norwegian home cinema publication, Vincent Marcais, Senior Vice President Marketing at Twentieth Century Fox International in Europe, answered our questions about the studio's Blu-ray plans, including the upcoming release of the Star Wars films, more titles directed by James Cameron and 3D.

Star Wars

Star Wars: Original Trilogy and Star Wars: Prequel Trilogy will consist of four discs each – one for each movie and one bonus disc. Star Wars: The Complete Saga will have an additional special features disc, for a total of nine.

The remastering of the movies has been performed by Lucasfilm and will offer "the most recently updated versions of the movies," with "even more enhancements to the picture quality." When asked about Fox's answer to the fans that want to see the three original versions released, Marcais replied: "The versions that are being released are closest to George Lucas' vision. Other than that, no comment."

There is currently no date for a Blu-ray release of the six Star Wars movies separately.

Sales expectations are very high. For reference, the Avatar Blu-ray sold 5 million copies in the US and 4 million in the rest of the world. That's the "ceiling" on what sales to expect from a major Blu-ray release, and Star Wars is expected to raise that ceiling.

The Abyss, True Lies, Titanic

Marcais confirmed that Fox is working with Lightstorm Entertainment and James Cameron on both The Abyss and True Lies and expects to be able to announce release dates for them "in the not too distant future." They can be expeced to come out "either this year or the next." These releases will take their time because they want to offer the very best Blu-ray quality possible."

The studio would "love" to offer both the theatrical and the extended cut of The Abyss on Blu-ray. Marcais recalled that this movie never got an anamorphic widescreen DVD, and said: "I can guarantee that when it is released on Blu-ray it will be in the proper aspect ratio."

The only definite plan for Titanic is that it's coming to theaters in 3D in 2012, the 100th anniversary of the disaster.

However, Marcais didn't have any new information about the Blu-ray release of more James Bond catalog titles, or MGM titles in general.

3D Blu-ray

Marcais couldn't answer the question of when the Avatar 3D Blu-ray would be available in stores. However, Fox intends to start offering 3D Blu-ray movies for general release in 2011.

Remastering

Finally, Marcais was asked about the policy when remastering catalog titles and specifically about Predator. The Fox executive acknowledges that they got a lot of criticism, "but I don't think it was deserved," he countered, because the movie was shot on a film stock that wasn't good enough, and the Blu-ray version "represents what the filmmaker wanted it to look like." He said that Fox discusses the issue of "removing grain or not" with the filmmakers, as long as they are alive.

Harry Potter Years 1-7 Part 1 Blu-ray Giftset Announced

Warner Home Video has announced Harry Potter: Years 1-7 Part 1 for Blu-ray release on April 15, the same day that Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 streets. This seven-movie Blu-ray gift set will include nine discs and "an abundance of spectacular special features on each movie." List price has been set at $134.99.

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader Blu-ray Announced

20th Century Fox Home Entertainment has announced The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader for Blu-ray release on April 8, in a BD/DVD/Digital Copy combo pack. In this third installment of the Narnia cycle (picked up by Fox when Disney passed on it after Prince Caspian), Lucy and Edmund Pevensie, along with their cousin Eustace, are swallowed into a painting and transported back to Narnia once again. Although it was shown theatrically in (converted) 3D, no 3D Blu-ray has been announced.

Paramount Home Entertainment has announced The Fighter for Blu-ray release on March 15, in a BD/DVD/Digital Copy combo pack. This movie is based on the true story of two brothers (played by Christian Bale and Mark Wahlberg) who, against all the odds, come together to train for a historic title bout. It's nominated for seven Academy Awards (Christian Bale - Actor in a Supporting Role, Amy Adams - Actress in a Supporting Role, Melissa Leo - Actress in a Supporting Role, Directing, Film Editing, Best Picture and Original Screenplay).

Marwencol Blu-ray Detailed

Cinema Guild has revealed the edition details for the Blu-ray release of Marwencol, which as previously reported (see Blu-ray.com, January 14) will come out on April 12. This award-winning documentary will be the first release of Cinema Guild's new Blu-ray line. The BD will be presented in 1080p with a DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 track and will will include an exclusive mini-print of a Mark Hogancamp photograph.

When Mark Hogancamp emerged from his coma, following a vicious attack, he had little memory of his previous life. Seeking solace, Mark built 'Marwencol,' an incredible 1/6th scale World War II-era town in his backyard. He populated the town with dolls and toy soldiers representing his friends, family, even his attackers, and created life-like photographs detailing the town's many relationships and intrigues. Through Mark's lens, these were no longer dolls - they became living, breathing characters in an epic WWII story full of violence, jealousy, longing and revenge. When the photos are discovered by an art magazine, and a prestigious gallery comes calling, Mark has to make a choice between the safety of his fictional town and the real world beyond it.

On May 17, Image Entertainment will release on Blu-ray two more titles licensed from the back catalog of Sony Pictures: the 1985 courtroom drama Jagged Edge, starring Glenn Close and Jeff Bridges, and the action comedy Money Train, starring Wesley Snipes and Woody Harrelson.

El Topo, Holy Mountain Blu-ray Coming Up

Few would have anticipated that in the span of just three months, we'd get no fewer than three cult movies directed by visionary filmmaker Alejandro Jodorowsky. After Santa Sangre (released last week by MPI), an early announcement to retailers indicates that on April 26, Anchor Bay Home Entertainment will release El Topo (1970) and The Holy Mountain (La montaña sagrada, 1973).

No release details are available for the moment.

Voltron: Fleet of Doom Blu-ray Canceled

The Blu-ray release of Voltron: Fleet of Doom, officially scheduled for late last year and which never materialized, has been canceled by Media Blasters. The announcement came from the Twitter feed of World Events Productions. No reason was given for this development.

Note that some retailers are still listing this title as available and even giving a delivery estimate, but it has never actually come out.

Clockwork Orange 40th Anniversary Blu-ray Coming Up

The French branch of Warner Home Video has announced that, on May 18, it will re-release Stanley Kubrick's A Clockwork Orange in a 40-Anniversary, 2-Disk Digibook Blu-ray edition. Just a few days earlier, the film be projected digitally at the Cannes Film Festival, featuring a new digital restoration. There is no information about a US release at the moment.

To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the start of the long-standing relationship between Warner Bros and Kubrick, seven of his movies will be digitally projected in theaters across France starting June 1: Lolita, 2001: A Space Odyssey, A Clockwork Orange, Barry Lyndon, The Shining (in its US version, never released before in French cinemas), Full Metal Jacket and Eyes Wide Shut.

Additionally, the French Cinémathèque will host an exhibition on Stanley Kubrick, with an area of over 10,000 square feet and displaying screenplays, correspondence, research documents, on-set photographs, costumes and props, as well as in-depth documentation on Kubrick's unfinished projects, such as his Napoleon.

A Clockwork Orange (1971)

Born to Raise Hell Blu-ray Announced

Paramount Home Entertainment has announced the Blu-ray release of Born to Raise Hell, with a street date of April 19. This direct-to-video action movie stars Steven Seagal (who also wrote the screenplay) as an Interpol agent bent on avenging the death of one of his men, killed while investigating drug trafficking in Eastern Europe.
