QUOTE
Escargot is a dish of cooked land snails, usually served as an appetizer in France and in French restaurants. The word is also sometimes applied to the living snails of those species which are commonly eaten in this way.

Escargot is the French word for snail. It is related to Occitan escaragol and Catalan cargol, which, in turn, may derive from a pre-Roman word *karakauseli.

Not all species of snail are edible, but many are. Even among the edible species, the palatability of the flesh varies from species to species. In France, the species Helix pomatia is most often eaten. The "petit-gris" Helix aspersa is also eaten, as is Helix lucorum. Several additional species are popular in Europe; see heliciculture.

Preparation

In French culture, typically the snails are removed from their shells, gutted, cooked (usually with garlic butter or chicken stock) and then poured back into the shells together with the butter and sauce for serving, often on a plate with several shell-sized depressions. Additional ingredients may be added such as garlic, thyme, parsley and pine nuts. Special snail tongs (for holding the shell) and snail forks (for extracting the meat) are also normally provided.

user posted image

Like most molluscs, escargot is high in protein and low in fat content (if cooked without butter). It is estimated that escargot is 15% protein, 2.4% fat and about 80% water.

Disesetengah negara, siput babi dikatakan dimakan, malah dibuat sate.

To answer your question, "Why Eat This Disgusting Food?"

I believe that people is so bored of chicken, meat, pork that they started trying to eat other stuff that they can grab such as snakes, birds, insects, etc

normally you starve the snails for 3-5 days before cooking them. flush with water can already.

in Islam, aquatic livings are edible as long as it's safe to eat (e.g non-poisonous) and clean . Muslims aren't required to slaughter them. that's the case with siput sedut.

now siput babi, they aren't slaughter-able according to Islam's way since they do not have necks and we have been depicting it as dirty animals (but I am a bit confused since they are biologically almost similar to siput sedut albeit the latter are capable of living under the sea + cooks would definitely clean them thoroughly before cooking)

someone with better knowledge if you find what I just said is wrong, please fix it. I have no authority to claim what I just said is totally right.

For siput babi, you got to "purge" them 1st. Dunno what they eat before this. eg. pesticides, dog poo, toxic stuff. Better to just feed them cornmeal or kangkong for a week or 2. After that, before cook, got to starve them for 2 days. to "clean" them insides. Dun wanna bite into a bunch of poo.

After that just drop into boiling water and you will see foam forming on top. take out the foam and more foam will form. repeat until no more foam and their cooked!

Then you take them out of the shell and you can cook with anything you liek.
