something like metering bright BG and light up front subject with flash?

i tried flash and it's turned to very warm.. it's ok for portrait though..
but i'm focusing on the wide range.. maybe i need to set the WB manually..
so most i off the flash and shoot with other settings.. to capture the surroundings..
yes using kit lens for widest range only...
which is for the last shot iso 400..

others on minolta iso800.. so can get higher fps.. surprise though noise control still ok..

Maybe u could use an orange flash gel?

8tvt yeap...

for the orange photo issue, its normal, because u used such wide open aperture, huge iso, and slow shutter, the ambiance easily overwrite the flash, what u do is, gel ur flash, custom white balance it, then u get very nice 'natural' looking photo (depending on the WB level)

If shooting warm photos, shouldnt we use blue gel to counter the orange?

i'll take note if bump to that situation again..
maybe next time will focus on optimizing the flash..

for the current setup.. 18mm @F3.5 and F42, what are the ISO and shutter suitable for it?
so i can be more focus on flash, metering and also the WB..

of course you don't just use an orange flash gel and fire away.

you need to manually set your WB to match the flash output as well.

for technical explanations i pass it back to ieR. laugh.gif

use orange gel, to simulate the 'ambiance' lighting stronger<key point), with WB, turn the kelvin down to ur liking (really low kelvin pure white, just low kelvin (3500-3200) to have some tungsten feel back to the photo)

it is very subjective, depending how daring u will use up to iso3200 and above. i use my A300 to iso1600 very often. i'll make sure my composition is so good that they first thing they see, is the picture, not the noise. but i will still get some comment on noise however lol.

learn how to use the most basic 'eV triangle' and learn how each other compliment each other, and how to compasate for each other. flash never (NEVER) directly affect the basic ambiance eV. flash is to control ForeGround eV (subject eV) only.

so u wan bright BG, set the camera not the flash, ur flash will deal with the subject (auto)

chiahau: It's not mine LOL.

cassplayer: Nope - you match your flash color with the ambient light which is usually orangey.

There is one place where you can put a blue gel or rather, blue filter - on the lens, so that you don't need to change to tungsten WB. However this will cause some light loss.

porkchop: iPhone users, do not be alarmed! biggrin.gif
