Somehow I notice my tab lags and sometimes programs auto shut down. I already minimized my ram consuming items. I'm not using live wallpaper or anything. Minimal number of pages as well. My home screen doesn't have Widgets but I do have a few folders. Anybody can help?

@benny888 haha i'll have to research a bit on what you mentioned as this is my first android device. I got it not long ago and I am not very familiar with the terminologies that you used.
Things that I can provide you info on is: I have not rooted my phone The things in my phone is practically as per what a NEW galaxy tab has (I only downloaded games and Advanced Task Killer)

@benny888 I noticed that you mentioned 4 advices to a fellow forumer to improve performances and one of it is related to rooting.
Lets assume I performed a root and later I do not touch any other settings after rooting, will there be performance improvements? (Sorry I am still very new and still trying to catch up with android related stuff)
I have already dumped the Touch WIZ UI and using Zeam launcher now and it is much smoother than before but I still see the smoothness can be improved.

@benny888 I'm going to give it a shot at rooting and installing custom roms.
I have read through the thread considerably and also read the xda-developers forum link that you have put up.
However, I do have a few questions.
1) Is there a "Correct" rooting method? I used to use an iphone and there were a few "Jailbreak" methods that would cause ur phone to be unable to update your firmware anymore. Wonder if this is applicable to Android? Cause I notice there is "Manual" rooting and "Easy" rooting
2) What should I prepare and do before rooting? I'm using stock rom and I bought my tab from Maxis. What program should I use to backup my stuff?
3) I noticed the heavily discussed custom rom is Overcome and Modocco? Which is better ? (I'm a new user btw so just let me know which has better performance).
4) Will updating to a custom ROM disable me from updating to a newer version of OS in the future? (Eg: Gingerbread / Honeycomb? )
5) Also, I noticed in the FAQ at xda developers they mentioned that these custom ROMS have regular updates and the updates can be done easily without hassle (just update it online and done). Is this applicable to Modocco and Overcome?
6) You mentioned that after rooting, I need to install apps to enhance my tab's performance. Do you have any recommendations for this that would bring "huge" performance increase?
Thank you for your input and feedback. Trying to research as much as possible in order not to brick my tab. I understand that bricking happens only when you screw up the bootloader (or was it kernel?) and only certain actions will do that. However, would just like to understand further to avoid the problem from happening

@benny888 help me put my name in the list as well been using it since November last year. Anyway, for your point 1 where I need to use S1C, what do you mean my computer can detect my tab? I just plug the USB connector to my PC and see whether it can be detected issit? Or do I need Samsung KIES? Added on February 20, 2011, 8:31 pmBTW Benny888, I just went through your blog link you posted and noticed that you changed your file system from RFS to EXT4 before flashing the modaco ROM. This part is new to me. What happens if you flash a ROM that is based on EXT4 but your current file system is using RFS? Luckily I went through it before I started doing anything. @benny888 I'm set to go then. Final question which was not answered. Modaco vs Overcome. Which one? I wont be sticking to roms that still use the samsung's default properties. Lets just say when I decide to do something, I push it. Otherwise why do it at all? I'll learn along the way haha.. thanks a lot

Just watched a video of a person using Overcome Rom with Modaco Kernel. Somehow the person pointed out that everything is very very smooth EXCEPT games.
The person noticed that the games performance actually dropped compared to using the stock rom and kernel. There is laggyness now compared to before. Any experience on this benny ?

haha alright. Anyway I have been wanting to ask this for a while already.
Most of us treat our tabs as treasures I believe? Anybody actually dropped it from a height of more than 1 meter? I've been trying to find video's on the stress test of galaxy tab but somehow its always about the gorilla glass only.

@lennox That fragile huh? time for me to consider getting a casing for it. But most casings are SO FAT at the side. My current pockets can fit the tab but with the additional sides i find it difficult (and yes it makes that much of a difference when u add both sides)
