Benny, my tab shown "POWER RESET or UNKNOWN UPLOAD MODE" after followed your trick, hold down both volume buttons and then at the same time plug in the usb into your TAB . But it's not show the download mode, what can i do now?
*
At least now we see some life back to the TAB. So try a hardware reset to see whether you csn boot it back ?

Reset Galaxy Tab with Hardware Keys

Make sure tab is turned off, Press and hold the Power button for about 10 seconds to turn it off.
Press and hold the “Volume Up” and “Power” buttons at the same time, when logo appears on the screen release the “Power” button and continue press the “Volume” button
When recovery screen appears use “Volume Up/Down” buttons to navigate and select “wipe data / Factory reset” by pressing the “Home” or “Power” button (Depends on Galaxy Tab model).

Can you reproduced above ? If so, with TAB connected top PC, Launch Odin , select repartition and attempt to boot it - select START

Based on this thread and the previous Galaxy Tab thread, I have recorded 79 users using the Tab. I was really surprised. I was guess estimating perhaps around 30 only !!
So it is indeed quite a popular choice.
Today is my 11th day using it and learning new things, loving it every day.

I think we could arrange a meetup makan-minum TC session one of these days , maybe on a weekend after CNY to share. Those interested in such an event, please indicate your interest
I have been attending Apple MacFest, Palmers and Windows Mobile meetup but yet to meetup with any Androiders

QUOTE(Hico @ Jan 26 2011, 02:55 PM)

benny, which backup program can back up data like sms, bookmark and the application installed? isit selectable which one to backup b4 start to backup? is titanium the best backup app?

never know tab got so many users!  rclxms.gif  rclxm9.gif
*
I used two backup programs - call me kiasu and kiasi.

I have yet to restore any stuffs on the TAB , so I cannot exactly comment how these 2 work. Backing up is so far very good with no issues. I would like to comment my usage of these 2 tools in my previous NexusOne, Galaxy S, and HD2 ( android) and present Dell Streak

Titanium is a more complete solution . If you are restoring back to the same rom there is no issue at all ; can say you will get a perfect 100% restore. However things is a bit tricky if you wish to restore it to another rom ( even though is same cook , perhaps a upgraded version). You will not have a 100% perfect restore - more of 99% ? You will face force closure of some apps ( random ) and for such apps you need to uninstall and reinstall to solve the problem. When you restore to a different rom, all related system files/apps of the older rom are highlighted in red and will not be restore. In a way this is good but it also means you will not be able to restore fully bak your data example your mail, SMS, settings etc. So what I normally do is I do a manual selection of the red flag items to restore. I do this only after I complete the first auto restore

MyBackUpPro I used mainly because it saves all my APK files nicely in a folder. It is very useful when you need to reinstall any apps. So i use this more of a secondary backup. You can have selective restore of apps, apps+data, or data only. I find restoration of SMS, bookmarks, apps settings etc is better using it

im a little bit confuse..
which pit file i have to use if i want to flash using asia firmware?
*
It should be stated in the firmware requirements. what is your reference source for the firmware you wish to upgrade ? It is usually PI.PIT.
Example of such a list :

Do check whether the firmware comes with protected bootloaders. If so, you will not be able to reflash back to original stock rom. However there is a patch by chainfire to resolve it

Just went out to take a delicious dinner after half day worry abt my Bricked SGT.
As mentioned earlier, without this thread, i won't start flash my SGT.
Luckily with effort of Benny, every guru here able gather together and share their expensive experience and willing find solution else where.
With hope this SGT thread will continue grow with contribution of other experts experince here.
Of course I will continue flash, you won't learn or grow up without trying or failure.
As looked back my previous Bricked TAB, i suspect is the 'signed bootloaders' in my TAB,
What do you think, Benny?
*
Unlikely as when you successfully flash Roto JME - it will remove any protected bootloaders. If you want to try again, just remember to boot it at least one more time before flashing the recovery

actually yesterday my friend bought sgt at digital mall..
they said it is original set and comes with international warranty..
when i look at the packaging it stated samsung.com.hk..
and the warranty card is from samsung hong kong..
does samsung malaysia cover the warranty?
and it had chinese words in its application like its keyboard..
so my friends ask me to flash it..
can i just disable the chinese words without the need to flash?
*
You mean your concern is only the keyboard ? Just open a document , say write a sms - hold down on area you wish to write, select input method - and see what other keyboard choices are there ? If there is a full English one - select it to be your default. You can also check for KB alternatives in the Market. Use VLINGO - is free and plus point it can be voice activated to accept input by voice

Just download the SGT-Bootloader-Patchand check on my TAB( which i though the same thing as you b4 BRICKED! Never check bootloader!), What i found here:
Signed: PBL, SBL, Kernel
Not Signed: SBL_Backup
Assessment: Can only flash SIGNED firmware
The bootloader still locked, rite?
*
YES. Strange ? Where is your source of the Roto rom ? It is supposed to remove the protected bootloaders
Anyway, you can now use the patch first before flashing the recovery again

Before i flash SGT-Bootloader-Patch, is it save? Sorry still worry will BRICK my SGT.
coz the flash file warn you "DANGEROUS! Flashed unprotected bootloaders"  sweat.gif
*
Standard warning lah ! You are now have some experienced, no need to worry - just flash again
I am pretty busy today. Later tonight i will download the patch and tried on my TAB to see the bootloader status. Mine is also Roto JME v4 rom similar to yours and would also like to know whether is signed bootloader. However I doubt so as i flash the Chainfire recovery within few second success and reboot about less than 2 minutes

benny....would like u to verify about the misaligned menu interface in papago x5...any fix for it..
*
Let me say this. Papago X5 originally was not meant for big screens 7". So the spareparts hack was used to force it to be full screen mode . As far as I know there is no solution/or tweak to fix this floating menu.

However recently a month ago Papago released specific versions for various Android models - htc desire HD, Aria, Legend, Wildfire and even Galaxy Tab. Check this link:

http://www.m3shoppe.com/index.php?page=sho...emart&Itemid=26

I have communicated with M3shoppe but they have yet to confirm back to me whether the version being sold and marketed specifically for Galaxy Tab is default full screen. I ask them this because I noted in their product specs in the web, supported resolution is still shown as 480x800. If it is developed specifically for the TAB, I'd supposed it will no longer has this float menu problem and resolution will be superb

thanks for the reply, so what are the items included in the box set? and where can I get the cover for the tab?
*
Accessories are just USB cable, charger, wired headset and a small guide booklet
Plenty of cases you can find in most pda shops - if you are in KL, just go over to LowYat or PJ Digital Mall, Summit, Subang Parade

Or you can buy online from forum lowyat : just google for it at either http://forum.lowyat.net/MobilePhonesandRelatedAccessories or http://forum.lowyat.net/Notebooks&PDAs

Added on January 27, 2011, 6:16 pmklwong99: I just tested mine with Chainfire patch and these are my results:

Bootloaders : You are safe
Signed none
Not signed Pbl, Sbl, Sbl_backup, Kernel
Assessment : can flash anything

So probably your Tab's original rom is signed-protected while mine is not ( which is from Europe)

how can i find out that the galaxy tab had protected bootloader?

baseband version :
P1000ZHJJ1

kernel version :
2.6.32.9
root@sep-53#1

build no :
FROYO.ZHJK1

could i just flash this tab?
*
Install the patch file ( it is a APK file ) from Chainfire
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=888071

Launch it and it will check your Tab and produce a report as what I have listed earlier

Select patch it if yours is signed and you can now flash
There is no harm running this patch

PressReader app for the Google Android platform can now be downloaded from Android Market, confirms NewspaperDirect. Just late last year NewspaperDirect worked hand in hand with Samsung in PressReader and PressDisplay apps preinstallation on few of Samsungs Android-based devices such as Galaxy Tab and Galaxy S smartphones.

PressReader has more than 1,700 newspaper and magazine titles.

NewspaperDirect said that PressReader is a free app for Google Android devices. This app will enable users to purchase newspapers and magazines for $0.99 per issue or downloaded in combination with a paidPressDisplay.com subscription.

I just upgraded /change my kernel to ModacoR3 which is a ext4 based system. Thereafter I upgraded my rom to Modaco b1 release ( based on firmware JMF) . The ext4 is much better than Samsung's proprietary RFS system. I recorded a vastly improved Quadrant reading of 1781 compared to 1025 previously. Though these figures do not really much but it shows the computing performance has improved. The TAB is now more responsive. Google Nexus S and all subsequent products will be based on EXT4 file system

Those interested can read the details about it in my blog

It is just like default rom ; the changes are the innards not the appearance. You can always makeup/customize yours - plenty of widgets /launchers to do such

This is the result after Chainfire patch, is mean Roto JME v4 rom is still sign bootloaders?
I attempt want to run the patch, but still doubtful. Hopefully it won't spoil the TAB motherboard.
If so, my TAB will really brick and unable to recover back. Finger cross....
*
This is my results WITHOUT any patch. As you can see My roto JME as you can see is unsigned. Reading the the posts by users, I think it is safe to run the patch.

one last question before i flash to roto rom..
in a quick tutorial by ianandamy - xdadevelopers, he used addon-jme-modem and addon-jme-hidden..but in ur tutorial u didnt use it..
which one do i need to follow?
*
Ianandamy tutorial is out of date,. It is based on the older rom file where after extract you have different tar files for PDA, Phone and Modem. Roto latest rom file is all inclusive in one PDA tar file. Follow mine will do

i know what he is asking. I am sorry we cannot discuss this issue of getting paid apps for free here.
Getting paid apps for free is analogous to piracy /warez.
Please google elsewhere for answers

I was only on the original stock rom for few days , then I switch to Rotohammer JME v4 after reading several rave reviews. I am now only on a day on Paul's Modaco B1, it is still too early to assess. Have yet to see any serious bugs but for developmental alpha/beta roms bugs are expected, only how serious. Some bugs users will not even noticed as it appears in certain apps. Paul has clearly highlighted his rom is still in beta stage and those interested to assist him to improve it further. I have been using Modaco roms since my first Android and I must say he is an excellent cook. You can read other users comments at :

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=927429
http://android.modaco.com/category/456/sam...tab-modaco-com/

If you wish to look for an immediate improvement , I'd suggest just change the kernel based on ext4. Improvement is obvious. Another advantage of switching to EXT4 kernel I need not go through another process to installed a clockworkmod recovery as it is built in with the kernel. I have touch a bit on RFS and EXT4 in my blog post and why I switch
