Hi, everyone! smile.gif

Meet my baby boys! wub.gif RUFFLE & WAFFLE wub.gif

Ruffle
Ruffle is a tri-coloured short hair guinea pig. He is the dominant male among these two, and he is a naughty boy! He loves to bully his brother Waffle and show him who's boss! Loves exploring my room during floor time and will sniff anything and everything. Loves to jump and popcorn like a crazy doofus and does the furthest leap to get out of the cage!

Waffle: *whispers* Don't eat now, she's watching us.
Ruffle: No, she's not! *chomps on carrot*
Me: Ahem.
Ruffle: *drops carrot*
Waffle: I told you so.

WAFFLE
Waffle is a Dutch short hair guinea pig. He is the more quiet and shy one. He tolerates his brother Ruffle when being bullied and while he might be gentle, he's tough enough nudge Ruffle when annoyed. Loves to be held and cuddled. Loves kisses on the cheek and will always look at me for more! Always the first one to wheek and can sometimes be loud!

Waffle: I love love love lettuce! *happily chomps away while smiling*

Yup, they are 2 months and 2 weeks old! biggrin.gif

I'd like to ask a question here.
Anyone has any experience where they had to leave their guinea pigs for about a week or so?

I'm currently in Selangor, and need to travel back to my hometown Penang during the nearing Deepavali holiday. I'll be gone for about close to 10 days. All boarding services that I've enquired about are asking for a bomb for their rate per day!

I really have no heart to leave my babies with those boarding centres, some are just not trustworthy. I'm so so so bonded with these two.

Any ideas? Desperate here! :'(

Yup! They love Alfalfa hay wink.gif

I'm studying in Selangor and my hometown is Penang. Living here in a rented place. Friends don't dare to take care of them, they're scared of them. I've no choice.

I don't have a car. I'd most probably either take a flight or travel home by bus. I've never travelled with them anywhere before :/

maybe you can try to enquire XOXO pet store, they are at kota damansara.... they just changed to specialising in small animal boarding recently.... smile.gif here's their FB page.... http://www.facebook.com/#!/xoxopetstore

XOXO is also too expensive for me.. :'(

Being a student in a place away from your hometown is difficult. Low on allowance and difficulty in transportation. My per-month allowance is just enough to cover for my daily expenses as well as keeping my babies comfortable. Sigh..

Hi, everyone!

Thanks for being so kind in suggesting ideas for their boarding solutions.

Boarding nowadays costs a bomb. If I had the space and means, I would gladly just board other people's guinea pigs as well for half the price! It's just such a joy watching these animals go about their daily lives, I can just spend hours watching them! tongue.gif

I'm in Bandar Sunway. Sucks to be away from your hometown without a car. Not only would I have to pay a hefty amount for boarding, I also have to pay for the pick-up drop-off services which are not cheap as well.

Sigh.

cute boys you have there!! My two boys are like yours too, one dominant and one shy, yet two of them dislike to be held sad.gif

This is my experience I can share. I took my boys back to my hometown with me last week by car, and although I put them in a rather large box, they would just hide underneath the shade and stayed there quietly throughout the 7 hours journey, wouldn't even come out for their favourite food! Not even a sound!
If you are to travel by bus, I think you can put them in a box (not too big so you can put it on your lap), put some fruits and vege and voile! Put layers of newspaper and cloth to make them feel comfy. I want to try that method since I'm going back again next week for a week +, but since my housemate volunteered to take care of them, I am worry free.

p/s: this is the last resort though, if the boarding fee is too high and you would prefer to bring them back. Anyhow, taking a small furkid onto a bus is easier than by flight. If they stay quiet (in a frightened mode most probably), it would keep the driver and passengers in peace.

Oh, why do they dislike to be held? sad.gif

I do intend to bring them back by car during the year-end holidays as I'd be away for 3 months, but right now I'm just looking for more temporary solutions. For the rest of this year I only need to board them during Deepavali for 10 days. I'll be going back home in November and will bring them back with me.

Also, do you have a specific item that you use to contain them during travel? Like a pet carrier? Or do you just use as simple box? Which would be better? Do you leave their food inside or how often do you stop to feed them? What about water and hay? For bedding would it be okay if I use towel and fleece? Do you keep them in the back seat or front seat?

My shortest trips home would be 6 days and my longest would be 12 days at once during my short breaks.

So far I've not had any such breaks yet, so no experience in travelling with them.

They still runs away from me sad.gif except food time sleep.gif

I use whatever I have or I can find. I use a box with tall sides so that I can pin cloth on top of it as a shade. Before depart, I let them eat some hay and pellet first. I put some apples, carrot and capsium in the box with them to keep them hydrated and full, although they stopped eating once the car started. Didn't put hay and water coz sure will make the box very messy, and they didn't eat anyway. Bedding is up to you, I just use newspaper and cloth to make them comfy, they hardly pee during the journey, but still poo. I put them in the front seat when going back, but I got distracted too much, it's hard for me to concentrate on the road. On the way back, I put them in the back seat. They don't seem to feel secured and relieved by looking at me I think sad.gif

How old are they and how long have you had them for? blink.gif Aww, I really hope you get to bond with them more, they're such lovable pets!

Okay, noted. And well, if it works for your 7 hour journey, I am sure it will work for my 4 hour journey! Thanks so much for sharing your experience. Will definitely travel with them during year end, and will post my own experience here biggrin.gif

Can felt be used instead of fleece?

I can find felt very easily and very cheap too. So nice patterns and colours. But so far I don't know where to find fleece.

How? :/

Sigh... my mischievous M&M duo learn how to pick up good food! When I mix Living World pellet and Oxbow cavy performance together, they pick the LW out of the bowl and eat all the oxbow! doh.gif
thumbup.gif I wanted to trim too but they will try to move away... I scared I ter-cut their flesh sweat.gif

I just wrapped them around a towel, and put them on my lap. Then I sayang them to the max, then just let them stand up and balance against my body, then clip clip clip away slowly, bbut must clip very little only, else they'd bleed. biggrin.gif Go try ok!

Hey, guys.

I plan to bring my 2 babies with me on a bus back to my home town.
The journey will take approximately 4 hours. I'll be travelling on Dec 8th.
Any travelling tips?
