Hello there, morning everyone...my guinea pig finally make sound wheek softly this morning....I am so relief. Well, this may because of the bedding that I change recently to breeder select (too dusty) for one of them and then lack of vit C too that is why it lost it voice coughing once a while and when make sound it sound like sore throat sound.bring it to Dr Yeoh Taman Megah was attended by Dr Gary...He said my GP might be lack of vitamin that is why like tat...haiz...my gp was so choosy on it food...pening me la...last time use to like cucumber and spinach and now not anymore...when baby watever given finished all but now they choose the vege and fruits...

I usually feed spinach, purple spinach, bell peppers (green),tomatoes, carrots, corns, siew bak choy, sawi, daun pandan, and apples...sometimes all the above at one serving and sometimes just two vege at a time...then make carrot, peppers and corn kebabs for them to eat...biggrin.gif

Ever since I've swopped to the fleece/mat combo, they only poop at the mat area! well 95% of the time la! So yay! But I've taken away tunnels and all, otherwise they like to pee and poo in the tunnel.

Congratulation to you Minty successfully toilet train them well, my gals already 3 yrs now..so guess i need to change to fleece bedding soon...because paper bedding make it lost it voice...

Added on November 23, 2011, 11:20 amMorning, I would like to ask what should we do if the guinea pig is choosy on their fresh food? Now one of my ill GP is very choosy on its food...all fresh vege reject by it, it only nibble a bit only...and then it suddenly likes to eat apple.I am kinda confuse on their diet now...What type of liquid vitamin C that you feed to your GP when they are scurvy?

Hi everyone, I just about to ask abt keeping my piggies in my bedroom.Soon I will be moving into a new place which only a rented room. I used to stay in a condo unit all by myself...so I put my piggies in the living area and change their bedding twice a week. Well, now they are going to sleep with me in a room.So I wonder is there any way to avoid the pee smell?I am ok with the poos but not ok with the pee. Ity makes me headache and suffocate sometimes.
I do feed my piggies with pandan leaves and even their poo also smell pandan...LOL...so if really smelly I might start feeding them pandan leaves once a week.I got a window but it is facing a wall...so only have little wind i afraid they will suffocate.i am thinking of leaving the window open while i am at work...and then might need to change to fleece or change the bedding everyday to avoid smell. smile.gif

i m keeping my GP in room also...their pee n poo doesn smell bad to me...i feed them alfalfa hay + nutri pellets...i close the window when i go work n let them conquer the room...they don even step out from their cage...
*
Wow rclxms.gif Shamanwee you really trust ur gps running around the room. LOL...I need to see whether I have such space for them to roam around the room.My Gps almost 3 yrs now and their size is about small bunny. They always likes to stay in the cage because they feel more secure this way...I put them out for floor time and they just keep running back to their cage or stay inside a wood house that i bought for them.I feed them Hagen pellets and hay...fresh vege morning and evening.

I have another problem with my gps is I put newspaper later and then bedding (recycle papers) and they likes to dug the bedding and find the news paper and then it pull out the newspaper and hide under it...once time I nearly pengsan cos the whole cage upside down...so messy....then I will need to make sure they dun have chance to make "smart tunnel" in the cage or else I will go crazy. They likes to pull the veges out of the plates to the bedding and eat...sometimes i also worry they will get choke with the bedding too...May I know wat type of bedding u use at the moment?I am considering change to fleece...I saw one at the guineapig cage website which using (cotton sheet, towel and fleece) sew together and put on to the cage look very neat and nice...biggrin.gif

ya...i keep them in rooms...live in cage but without closing the cage door...they won step out as they r timids animal...they only stay at their own territory...
i m currently using newspaper...cheap ma...i din use any bedding cos they like to pee around but once they used to pee n poo at a certain place, they will pee n poo at that place...my is only 3 months old...is their nature of pulling anything in front them...haha...well, try to pet them or massage them at their back or stomach...they enjoying while singing...lol.. rclxm9.gif mine always make noise when i m goin to work or back from work... icon_idea.gif  well, i m searching for sheltie ( Female ) to keep my Piggo company...but seems i cant find any....u have sources to get shelty or peruvians ?
*
Oh u only have one GP...biggrin.gif good to have another gp as company...you may ask Juztiny as she is a GP breeder. Alternative will be in petshop I got mine at the Family Pet shop in Taman Megah...but if you going to buy from pet shop it is better for you to take it for check up for mites cos usually gp from pet shop got mites. My piggies was attacked by mites when they are little but now they are fine...just the other day one of it got choked and lost it wheek...now it is better now and can eat like a monster now...laugh.gif Relief a little after saw it act like normal...

Shamanwee, sorry for intro you to some breeder that I am not familiar of. Luckily got some member voice out...I really salute to u to have a pair of sugar gliders and a piggie in a room with you. In fact i am still a bit of worry of having my piggies staying with me because all these while they are very independent piggies...maybe they have company therefore got me or not they also still happy as usual...

I am not sure izzit I feed hagen that is why sometimes their cage might smell badly...but I change to another type of pellet last time they dun like it at all...is there any other pellet that in big size and not so smelly?

i've bought a corner litter box yesterday. it's triangle in shape and has a raised grill to allow the pee/poop to drop through. i've placed it under the leaky bottle and it's worked great so far - at least the wet bedding doesn't spread to the whole cage and my piggie stays dry. a little concerned with the grill though, i know it's not good for the legs but i figured since he only uses it to drink water it should be ok. will still have to observe and see..

Added on December 3, 2011, 7:14 pmhey piggy lovers, i tried planting a box of wheat grass for Henry last week and he had his first taste of wheat grass today. he loved it! strongly advise that you guys plant for your piggies too (if you haven't) and it's really easy to do. Some pics  biggrin.gif

Hi grhunter, May I know where did you buy ur wheat grass from? Regarding the leaking bottle i also have the same problem and now is not the pee that flood the cage but the water did....so I put a brick under the water bottle and see how it goes just testing not sure wat it will help yet. I got the info from the UK forum...I will start my fleece cage by next week....Hope my piggies will get use to it....I have tried many ways for the bedding from wood shaving, to recycle papers, bathroom mat and also plastic pallete that ppl use for dogs and cats poo and pee...one day my guinea pic leg got stuck and it scream for its life for the first time luckily i am at home or else sure already break its leg. Then I run to the cage and saw it calling for help...and I slowly calm it down and slowly pull the leg out...and massage it...and it run and hide....My heart nearly broke into two when I saw that.It was limpinh for few days and then back to normal...Thank GOD really...I dun use that pallette for whole cage now just a part on the hidey house...i heard that guinea pig can see clearer in the dark is that true?Happy weekends everyone~~

i didn't buy the grass, i just bought the seeds and planted my own. i got mine from Purehealth (Link) and had them deliver to me. It was about RM 18 for 1kg packet of seeds after delivery is included in. They also sell grown wheat grass for a whopping RM 35 a tray.  sweat.gif

let me know how the brick works out coz if it does, i might get a brick to place in there too. i think ultimately the solution of our problem is to find a non-leaky bottle.  cool2.gif

regarding your guinea pig's foot getting stuck, did it got stuck on a kennel board like this (link). i'm still worried mine would get his leg stuck at the little toilet box so i might just take out the grille. at least now the box contains the wet bedding and doesn't flood the whole cage! It looks like this (link) except mine has an extra grille above the base. u could consider getting one if the brick didn't work!
*
Hi there, yes the kennel board i have one of those and i cut it to fit into the cage.I got the toilet like the link u post too but my piggies likes to dig all the bedding and sleep in there...yeah, their drinking bottle is leaking too and always flood the cage...kek sei me.. vmad.gif After so many beddings like i said before going to try on fleece might trying half of the cage is bedding and half by fleece...i also suspect my piggies got sometimes and some how eaten the paper bedding as well. The other time I try half the cage with towel and half with paper bedding they popcorning... rclxm9.gif so i guess they likes it.My piggies are almost 3 yrs now...kinda big size like a size of a rat just without the 'geli' tails only.
Regarding the wheat grass will have a look at it and see how it goes. How many GP u got grhunter?GP likes bottle with balls in the tube because sometimes they are not drinking but they are just playing with the ball in the tube for fun...yes they do lick the ball to drink the water. If you use those no balls then the piggies might choke with too much water into their mouth. (Will that happen?) Imagine only.

now my piggies likes to bite the cage grill...will try to take it away just like Shamanwee did hope that both of them wont try to run away...Oh ya Shamanwee, now i finally look through my room window and it is facing someone's hall way hehehe so...no sun will make my piggies dehyderated but they might make noise and the neighbour will be guessing why there is mouse in the house...LOL...

My bottle leaking n I guess the bricks just temporary help a bit only.I saw the UK owner put on cage lining for their cube cage.really nice...mine look so messy cos the fleece keep drop fr the side.then my gps waiting for the chance to go under the fleece.tat is why I dun take photo...but look at their curious face makes me non stop laughing.

those paper bedding are expensive isn't it? the last time i checked it was going at about RM60 for a decent sized packet. i would love to try one like that in henry's cage and see if he likes it because it's often recommended by piggy owners. i have only got 1 piggy at home. i only got one because i wasn't confident about keeping more than one, being a new owner and all. how many do you have, and how big is their cage? their living space is also my concern. but definitely thinking of getting a buddy for Henry if possible.

i'll have to wait till end of december to come back malaysia and see what bottles are available. probably getting the ball ones or pressured ones. the ones in vietnam are all too small because they normally have for hamsters only doh.gif

GrHunter, Well, I bought a big pack cost RM99 and it would last for 3 months plus.I got a cage about 30 x 72 cm it is about 2 x 3 cube cage. Kinda small for my both piggies but most of the time they just hide in the hidey house I bought for them...occasionally out to eat and teasing each other. My piggies are huge now almost 3 years and both have different personality...one love human touch and one afraid of human...that is the headache one.I been wondering wat means by pressured bottle how does it look like? I been wondering because Shamanwee said he is also using one like this...I try to check on the website cant find it.What kind of bedding you using right now? Last day I saw a polar fleece and thinking of buying it but was doubt so anyone can advise can polar fleece can be use for bedding ma? smile.gif It cost RM24.90 and it is as big as a single blanket for adult...It is soft and fluffy...it feels like toys materials...

sob sob  cry.gif ..... my guinea pig (chimchim) died last night.. so suddenly T_T he was having heavy hiccups which was jerking him quite violently.. i had no idea why he was like this. I picked him up and checked on his airflow... then he was lifeless sad.gif ......

I only had him for... 4 dayssss.. he was only 3 months plus

Bought him in Pets Wonderful @ Mid Valley... he was one of the most handsome gp I ever seen... he has his own style as well... but he wasn't active at all.. maybe he was already ill when we bought him sad.gif

Here.. i wish chimchim runs free and wildly to his little heaven  cry.gif

Sorry to know that. May your GP RIP...When we buy any pet from Pet shops we need to bring the new pet to Vet for a check up...because we never know is the animal healthy or not. My gps was full of mites when I got them...which i also dunno until i saw the black dots on the furs only realize...luckily not a serious type but still affect their well being. Lately my gp also having hiccups due to eating too fast and got choked therefore it need to digest the food...went to vet and the vet said nothing wrong with it...maybe it just no appetide. Then after a week of feeding Vit C given by the vet...now my gp ok already can eat like monster lo...

Oh, i just realise that my gps choose their vege cos some vege is better in nature and they tend to hungry instead of eat it...I bought most my veges at Giant but now i bought it from Mercato...cos working nearby Pavillion...now they eat every time i feed them vege... rclxms.gif I never tot of it...until one of my colleague told me the vege from G is kinda bitter that is why la...my pigs react to it...Tonight going to clean their cage and plan to try fleece again very soon...biggrin.gif

Thanks for the pic first Shamanwee, ur gp is very similar with chimchim le...oh u just got ur gps week ago huh? It seem comfortable with u...mine was running away when I first approach them. If u want to buy a guinea pig try to find one that u feel comfortable with and see eye to eye...smile.gif I got two one is which I personally request the one with black patch on the eye and another one is just cream with white (that one just pick up ramdomly by the salesperson therefore that gp is never get close to me...even until now it run whenever I touch it...it almost 3 yrs and it still dun feel secure with me...sad sad a bit lo...The other one is very stick to me...manja all the time and likes to be touch...and likes kids alot...when heard the neighbour kids shout or cry...it will listen attentive and purring...i need to calm it down by touching it and massage it a little...Oh ya when I got time will snap a photo to show u guys...the photo in the profile is when they are young...now they cant even fit "suku" of the box.LOL....

Hi Cutiebaby u dun so fast give up...just give urself some time to heal the broken heart...and then only you start to find a new gp...you may need to learn more about Gps before taking back home...Just a piece of advise...dun choose the quiet gpsthat hide in the corner because it means it might be ill...or in pain for other illness...Gps dun have face expression even they are in pain they just keep quiet to itself...suffer by themself...(really pity) That is why anything u feel wrong abt gp u have to bring them to vet.

Shamanwee, ur Piggo is really cute...I see u got him for two months now...cool... thumbup.gif mine from as big as my palm until now is as big as my arm I cant believe that they have been with me for so long now...They are independent when i come back from work they just wheek for food only...once got food..they forgot abt me totally...Shamanwee, ur gps nails seem a little long i guess it is time to have a clip lo.. smile.gif

To all new owners, have a look at this link it might help u to understand GPS more. http://guineapigcages.com/ Good Luck!!

Hello all members I got a question to ask here...I got to know that my new place there got a female cat which it is a stray cat which other housemate adopt it and now it seem like a home cat now...it just walk into my room without hesitation...I was surprise to see the cat in my room...I am not really a cat person...Now i start to worry how to put my cage to avoid the cat from attacking my guinea pigs...Originally was thinking of opening my room door and let fresh air into my room but now the cat is making me doubt of opening my room door...My cage is the commercial pet shop cage I afraid the paws of the cat can get into the cage at attack my pigs. Am I worry too much?
Any gps owner here have cats at home?Last time I brought my gps to my bf place and he got a dog, that fellas just bark and bark until I have to calm them down cos their wheeking irritate the dog...Dog is more jealous type...and the dog also very close to me and it cant accept that I have other pet beside it...LOL...
