Our baby was feeding on breast milk and formula (Enfalac A+ with Triple ProGuard) for 2x 850g cans. Then we noticed that his stomach always got a lot of wind. We will hear sound from his tummy and he will force the wind out by making his face red. All this usually happen at night and then he will cry, etc.

Additionally, during confinement, the lady tried to pull out the 'thing' at the belly button. We stopped her but one day showering, she claimed that it came off. We believed she pulled out and am wondering if that is the reason to my son stomach so much wind.

We changed from Enfalac A+ to S26 Gold. The wind problem persisted but was less. On Enfalac A+, he has to eat every 3 hours. With S26, he only eats every 4.5 hours. To us who are babysitting him, it's a good thing because we can get more sleep.

Last week, we tried Enfalac Prosobee (soya milk) to see if it helps with wind reduction but it did not. So Meadjohnson Enfalac is no longer an option for our baby.

Then, I bought a can of 400g Isomil (soya milk too) but have not open. This is based on a relative recommendation that Isomil is one of the best soya milk around. Baby is with S26 Gold still. Some has adviced me to go for Lactose Free milk before going to soya milk again because soya milk has low nutrients. Not good enough for baby in terms of development.

We do not want to touch Enfalac anymore. Any brands of LF milk to recommend? Does S26 has LF? Is the wind caused by the babysitter pulling off that skin on the belly button?

Additional info: Apparently, my cousin who owns a pharmacy told me S26's company Wyeth has been bought over by other company that's why they've been quiet in the market lately. But we believe their recipe is still same / improved over the years from our time (80s baby). My husband and I had S26 when we were little.

What should we do? We already tried heated daun sireh wrapped around tummy for him to pass gas, we tried bo ying compound, we use lu-yi oil on tummy and sole of feet, we have not tried "fei chai sui." Baby is now 2 months old and I just got back at work for the first day.

Appreciate any advice.

Wow, long time didnt check back, didnt know I had so many response. THank you! smile.gif

Our baby is currently on Isomil Soya Lactose Free. It cost us about RM60.90 from 99 Speedmart. It helps a lot and baby stomach has less wind, thus longer sleep.

My baby was born at 3.9kg and coming to 3 months already weigh 8kg and drinking 7 oz! I am not sure if it is a lot compared to you guys. Hope to get some feedback. Cross check with paediatric, he said it is ok. Weight will grow less when we start feeding him with porridge at 6 months old.

We do burp him every time after we feed him. We rarely see him throwing up milk because he's already burped. We put Lu Yi Oil on his tummy and sole of his feet after rubbing the oil on our palm to heat it. We also feed him bo ying compound during the night so he sleeps better. It really helps. We bought 2 bottles of fei chai sui but end up not using it.

He is sensitive to sleeping in air conditioned environment as this will give him nose block. Some times, he breathe heavily / snore / snort during his sleep due to nose block but when he sneeze out his snort, everything gets better.

Hi,
My baby is 1month and 7days old, she is on Morinaga milk powder.  You may want to try but i cannot suggest that your baby is suitable for this milk(it's definitely cheaper than Enfalac)

My baby has wind and she will fart most of the time.  Sometimes she will spit out quite a lot of milk from her mouth (that's when her milk consumption increased) and there were times her milk came out from her nose.  I asked around and most people said that could be either the milk or wind or we did not burp her.

We burped her halfway feeding and after she finished the whole bottle and yet she will spits out and sometimes with phlegm, and the elderly said it's good to spit out so that the phlegm come out together and she will feel better.  My friend suggested me to try rubbing ointment on her sole (heat your palm with the ointment and then rub his sole thoroughly and quickly put on his socks) before and after feeding and i find this useful cos after that she will fart out but sometimes it still doesnt work out  tongue.gif

You may want to try to put the ointment (heat your palm first) on his back, chest, on his head (front part, it's okay if you apply more), tummy, and sole.  Yes, i do it all and if possible everytime i change her diaper.  Do you still wrap his tummy?  I am not sure if it got to do with the confinement lady pulled out his remaining umbilical cord but you can try to put the ointment on his naval/belly button before and after bath (put before bathe so that the wind wont go in) and the Bo Ying compound to rub on his lip (let him lick) or feed him (place the boh ying compound on your finger and let him suck) each time before you give him bath.

And please do not use the fei chai sui / gripewater cos it has been banned since 1982 (read more http://www.parenting-journals.com/113/the-...f-gripe-water/)
Although it does not contain alcohol  now but it still contain dillseed (my mother in law bought it and i read the ingredient and ask her to throw it away).  I'd rather spend more time rubbing ointment on my baby's body.

Another thing i would like to share is that make sure the milk is warm enough and not too cold and when feeding, please hold the bottle higher (i bet you know about this) so that the teat is fully covered with milk so that he wont be gulping wind.

I heard sucking pacifier will results in wind too but my baby will want the pacifier whenever she wants to sleep, cant help it.

I am still learning cos i am a first time mother..please feel free to share your opinion too.

Thanks for sharing all these useful information. My reply is as above. smile.gif

did u consult paed?

i'd do that the first thing, maybe get some recommendation there
*
Yea we did but our paed said it was normal and just let it be. But we couldnt stay with Enfalac so we changed to S26 which was better but also not good enough, then finally Isomil Soya Lactose Free and then our baby get very good sleep, into 4 - 5 hours.

Did you burp him properly after feeding?
Dont shake the milk bottle, stir with a teaspoon.
Use boiled water some bb cannot tahan filtered water
A good design bottle like mum or avent with anti colic will help.
Personally I dun think accidently pulling the cord out will caused bb to get colic.
Most baby starts colic season around 3 - 6 months, my bb oso the same, but not really bad

And the last thing is I duno if this is a proven thing, my CF lady told us to put bb on this thing
"Probiotix Biolife Reuteri drops" on the 2nd week, she swears this thing works to reduce bb colic in later stage. Its quite difficult to find and cost around RM110/small bottle. I found mine from a pharmacy at pudu plaza. Luckily you only need to give 1 bottle to baby.

If you want picture of the probiotix pm me

hope this help your problem, if too much headache then you should just go see your paed
*
Yes we burp him always. We usually shake the bottle by holding our fingers on the tip so the air dont go in. Will try to use a spoon from now on. Yes, we use boiled water. Purposely buy a hot water boiler / dispenser in our room. The Avent bottle didnt work out too well for us because the tip is too small or too big or too hard. We bought Pigeon and a softer tip (is it called pacifier where the milk exit from the bottle?)

hi merchant9,

is your baby still taking s26? when she change the milk powder is there any changes to her? like poo poo alot? or don't drink?

my baby is 1 month old now. I'm feeding her anmum infacare.. her poo poo v hard coz I just feed her formula now..

she also cry at nite after drinking n always like not enuf but once I add half oz she can't finish. so she awake v often for milk..

u mean ur baby drink s26 the feeding time longer? is your baby still got lots of wind?

hope to hear from u soon :-)

thanks:-)
*
Nope, our baby stopped with S26 for now. Until we get rid of the wind in the tummy. SOMETIMES he has S26 during the day (maybe just 1 meal) and then Isomil all the way. Better your baby cannot finish than to wake up crying every day. S26 has more substance hence last longer than Enfalac, also more heaty.

QUOTE(moorish @ Feb 5 2011, 05:36 PM)
my bb on S26 gold and regular whichever I can find, last week b4 cny both oso out of stock so bought enfagrow.

I dun notice difference on stool. however I do notice S26 very difficult to melt, need to use spoon to kacau, but enfa is much easier to melt.
*
I'm not sure about Enfagrow but S26 gold is known to be more heaty than most of other brands. It is also the oldest brand available in the market (from my time and now my baby is eating it)... Even elder know it to be good but heaty.

hi moorish,

is it okie to change milk powder often? is your baby feeding time got longer?
how's the wind?

u mean there are 2 type? s26 gold n regular? I'm a first time mum so I'm still v new. thanks for all the advise.

do u use filter water or boil water?

just now I tried s26 gold and my bb sleep after feeding till now almost 3 and half hours d.

my bb is one month old. so shud I increase to 3.5 oz wit 2 spoon of s26?  coz b4 tis her feeding is 3 oz drinking anmum infacare.

thanks:-)

Try not to change frequently, afraid may upset baby stomach. If you find one that is suitable, stick with it.
Feeding 7oz of Isomil result in 4 - 4.5 hours of sleep. If you feed less, he gets hungry more frequently. Hence, get up more often.
I am also a first time mom and I use boiled water. Purposely buy hot water dispenser in the room to make sure we have hot water every time.
I think it is 2 scoop = 4 oz water. Always a double!

My bb was bf till 15 mths, all these while we tried very hard to mix formula into her diet, she would reject milk, in the process she had tried snow, anmum, nestle, enfa, S26, dumex, sustagen vanilla and choco, pediasure chocolate, we would keep rotating to pacify her to drink. When she get used to a brand/flavour she would reject and we need to change the brand. Theres one time we rotate till feeding her with dutchlady chocolate milk those for adult.

So far she show no sign of poo changes or wind, feeding time has been a problem with whichever brand, I would hv to rotate feeding with bottle, swap with spoon, inject using shringes, bottle with straw, milk kept in fridge (she likes cold things).

I've been using boil water but if hubby makes milk he would insist on using filtered water.

How old is your baby? if she has started solid then milk is just a supplement, I would give her 2 times daily each time around 180ml.
*
Unfortunately, we stopped bf at 2.5 months old. I dont think I can produce anymore since I've stopped about 2 weeks. Baby dont live with us so we only see him every 2 - 3 days. She reject at 15 months old, why dont you supplement with porridge?

auhckw,

u mean u tried drinking the milk?

hi moorish

my bb just 1 month old.. but I realize she prefer s26. sleep better at nite.. but she still awake every three hours. but ytd when she tried s26 for first time she sleep straight four hours. haha

but later on every 3 hours. not much wind.. is s26 very heaty? my mil ask me giv my bb drink more water.

normally when her feeding time will get lesser?
*
Yes, you should feed baby with more water if you're feeding S26.

QUOTE(auhckw @ Feb 6 2011, 06:13 PM)
Speaking of tasting baby's food, 2 months ago my wife manually squeezed an orange and put the juice into a cup. And feed baby. He was drinking it like normal.

When he cannot finish, I decided to finish it up. Mana tau... So freaking bitter that I cannot even drink. Baby already drank 3/4 of it. I think when my wife squeezed out the juice, the skin juice also come out.

A lesson learned then, taste baby's food first before giving them cause they don't know what is right or not...
*
Baby is not exposed to so many different taste so they dont know bitter taste bad. It is ok to introduce them to good food early, even bitter so long it's good for them. For example, a relative feed their daughter with avocado + salmon porridge. Avocado dont taste good but she love it! smile.gif

at 1 mth old, bm is the best for ur child.
but i guess tat's ur choice

no need to always change powder, if ur child has no issues, then dun change

las time my baby drink s26 gold, then progress on to the nex 1(forgot the name) but end up very difficult to poo.
so we HAD to change.

ya, dun shake the milk bottle, shtir with wooden chopsticks...cos older folks always say if taking vitamins, dun use metal spoon cos will react with the nutrients.

beside ru yi you, there's another chinese herbal pills which u can soak in sesame oil(yes, sesame oil) to rub on the stomach to relieve the wind.
the herbal pills can be bought from chinese medical shop...need to ask my grandma...
*
Yea, strongly agree that BM (breast milk) is the best for baby but like my case, I went to c-sec so I have little milk. I only BF my son until 2month + and went back to work. The milk supply got lesser and lesser till none.
What is the name of the herbal pill?

QUOTE(andreafayming @ Feb 24 2011, 08:28 PM)

How old to feed probiotic? Is it necessary? My paed always say not to give anything besides water and milk (formula / breast milk)

Some comments and personal experience with Similac.

According to a relative, a friend discovered that Similac is one of the most nutritious milk powder in the market. Even better than the popular Enfalac.

We tried feeding our son with it but then the poop came out hard and he cry whenever doing his business. On top of that, the poop is dark green. No blood, doctor checked. Just that it didnt work out for my kid.

My nephews, 3 of them took Similac just fine though. So what work for others may not work for you.

Preparing the formula milk thinner than recommended causes no harm to the baby. Sometimes, when you put in more milk powder, it becomes 'heaty' for the baby, especially if your baby is the type that dont like to drink plain water.
