you are free to post any news about military stuff.

Anyway there were no changes in US-Malaysia Military relations.
Just as usual they will ask MAF to have more security in ensuring these shit never happen again.
The leaks of US technology into the black market is much worse in their own country and Israel.

Copter crashes at Subang airport

SUBANG JAYA: A helicopter crashed shortly after taking off at the Subang airport Thursday morning.

It is learnt that three people - a pilot and two trainees - were on board the Augusta AW139 helicopter when it crashed.

The pilot suffered minor injuries but the others were unhurt in the 8.18am incident.

The chopper's rotors were also damaged.

The airport was closed to all flights. Sources revealed that at least 14 flights at the airport were delayed.

It is also learnt that the 15-seater twin-engine helicopter belongs to a private company providing charter services and aerial works.

Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) director-general Datuk Azharuddin Abdul Rahman confirmed the crash.

"We are currently investigating the cause of the crash. The helicopter crashed almost immediately after taking off," he said when contacted, declining to elaborate.

The investigation would likely to be centred on whether it was human or technical errors which led to the crash.

Australian Radar 'Failing to Detect Boatpeople'

user posted image
JORN radar (photo : DSTO)

SYDNEY: A defence radar system costing nearly $2 billion has failed to detect any of the more than 200 asylum seeker boats that have landed on Australian shores in the past two years, a report said Sunday.

Under a front-page headline "Border Radar Fiasco", the Sun-Herald said the Aus$1.8 billion (US$1.9 billion) Jindalee Operational Radar Network (JORN) was only able to detect vessels equivalent to an Armidale class patrol boat.

The Armidale, which is used by the navy, is 56 metres long (183 feet) and has a displacement of 270 tonnes.

It means the system is not alerting authorities to the often small, rickety boats that have ferried thousands of asylum seekers to the country on well-worn routes from Indonesia.

This is despite successive governments in Canberra promising over the past decade that JORN would detect people-smuggling and illegal fishing boats, which are typically about nine to 15 metres (29-49 feet) in length, the report said.

"The (radar) is expected to detect objects on the surface of the water that are equivalent in size to an Armidale class patrol boat or larger," a Customs and Border Protection spokeswoman told the newspaper.

user posted image

"The ability to detect surface objects smaller than this is highly improbable based on one or more factors including object size, construction, prevailing ionospheric and environmental conditions.

"As a consequence "no sightings of suspected irregular entry vessels have been passed on to Customs and Border Protection," the spokeswoman said.

According to Department of Immigration figures, 220 "suspected irregular entry vessels" have landed in Australia since January 2009.

Asylum seeker boats are often intercepted close to land by Customs ships that operate their own smaller radar systems.

JORN consists of land-based radars in Western Australia, Alice Springs and Queensland and can monitor air and sea movements across 37,000 square kilometres (14,300 square miles), according to the Sun-Herald.

Russia to Start Supplying Submarines in Vietnam in 2014

ST. PETERSBURG, (RIA Novosti) Russia will start supplying Kilo class diesel submarines to Vietnam in 2014, a representative of state-run arms exporter Rosoboronexport said on Friday.

The submarines are equipped with "Club-S cruise missile systems," Oleg Azizov said.

Russia and Vietnam signed a $3.2-billion contract on the delivery of submarines in December 2009 during the visit of Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung to Russia. This is the largest deal in the history of Russian exports of naval equipment.

Kilo class submarines, nicknamed "Black Holes" for their ability to avoid detection, are considered to be among the quietest diesel-electric submarines in the world.

The submarine is designed for anti-submarine warfare and anti-surface-ship warfare, and also for general reconnaissance and patrol missions.

The vessel has a displacement of 2,300 tons, a maximum depth of 350 meters (1,200 feet), a range of 6,000 miles, and a crew of 57. It is equipped with six 533-mm torpedo tubes.

At least 29 Kilo class subs have been exported to China, India, Iran, Poland, Romania and Algeria.

First flight of Japanese ATD-X Likely in 2014

user posted image

Tokyo has reaffirmed its plan for a 2014 first flight of its experimental Mitsubishi ATD-X Shinshin stealth demonstrator, while it also considers three fighters for its F-X requirement.

"The first flight of the ATD-X is scheduled in Japan fiscal year 2014," said Japan's defence ministry.

"The ATD-X is a trial product of a high-manoeuvrability stealth aircraft adopting various state-of-the-art technologies that may be applied to future fighters, and confirm and verify the practicality and operational effectiveness of systems under various flight conditions," said the ministry. "It is also intended for the study of air defence against stealth fighters that might be deployed in the neighbouring region in the future."

Japan unveiled the first full-sized mock-up of the ATD-X at Japan Aerospace 2008. Many observers, noting the immense costs and risks in developing an indigenous fighter, have speculated that the project was a bargaining chip to help Tokyo gain access to theLockheed Martin F-22 Raptor, which Washington steadfastly refused to sell to its Pacific ally.

Meanwhile, the
Boeing F/A-18E/F Super Hornet, Eurofighter Typhoon and Lockheed F-35A Lightning II are vying for the F-X requirement to replace Japan's McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantoms. Tokyo issued a long-awaited request for proposals for the deal in April.

According to Tokyo's mid-term defence programme for the years 2011-15, the Japan Air Self-Defence Force has initial plans to procure 12 aircraft, with the final number yet to be determined. At a media briefing at the Paris air show, however, Boeing said the F-X requirement is for 42 aircraft.

Boeing added that it elected to offer the Super Hornet as opposed to a variant of the F-15 because Japan seeks a diversity of fighter types. The country operates a large force of F-15Js, but was concerned about readiness in the event of a problem with a specific type of aircraft.

Under F-X, substantial parts of the aircraft selected will be produced in Japan. Both Boeing and Lockheed have a long history of industrial co-operation with Japan on fighter programmes, while Eurofighter is a newcomer. The strong diplomatic ties between the USA and Japan, and the possibility that they may one day face common threats in the form of North Korea or China, would appear to favour the US aircraft over their European rival.

Tokyo expects proposals to be submitted by the end of September. The defence ministry said it will request that funds for the F-X purchase be appropriated for FY2012, with the aim of inducting the aircraft in 2016.

Australia Plots Biggest Postwar Military Sale
user posted image

SYDNEY - Australia said June 29 that it would undertake its biggest disposal of military equipment since World War II to fund a major upgrade, with combat aircraft, helicopters and ships all up for grabs.

Over the next 15 years, the Australian Defence Force will replace or upgrade up to 85 percent of its equipment, said Minister for Defence Materiel Jason Clare.

This means the force will dispose of up to 24 ships, 70 combat aircraft, 110 other aircraft, 120 helicopters and 600 armored vehicles in the next decade. The government wants to use the revenue generated to fund new purchases.

Clare said Britain has generated 650 million pounds ($1 billion) since 1997 by disposing of its unwanted military assets, but Australia has spent about $20 million Australian dollars ($21.2 million) offloading similar equipment in that time.

"That's why I am reforming Australia's system of military disposals - to reduce costs, generate potential revenue and provide opportunities for defense industry involvement," he said.

As it plans to spend billions on new submarines, naval helicopters and F-35 stealth fighter jets over the next 20 years, Australia also is positioning for bulk sell-offs, with the first offer of up to 24 ships over the next decade.

Companies can bid for all ships, a class of ships or a single ship, Clare said.
"By disposing of this equipment in bulk, it will increase the amount of revenue Defence can raise and reinvest in new equipment," Clare said in a statement.
"It also provides the scale which gives real opportunities for business," he added.

Clare said the government would attempt to help preserve important historic pieces of military equipment.

Malaysia's Aerotree Defence & Services has signed a letter of intent with Eurocopter for three EC135 helicopters for use in military training and utility roles.

The deal, which covers deliveries from early 2012, was signed at the Paris air show by Aerotree Group executive chairman Norida Hamzah.

"With the purchase agreement for this new EC135 fleet - which was handled through Eurocopter Malaysia - Aerotree will be positioned to diversify its activities, as well as developing services in the larger markets within the commercial and enterprise sector," said Eurocopter.

Aerotree's major customer is the Royal Malaysian Air Force, for which it provides target towing and electronic warfare services, plus air combat manoeuvring instrumentation equipment.

DSG Technology MEA Supercavitating Rifle Ammo

user posted image

Norwegian company Defense & Security Group (DSG) has developed a line of ammunition that can be fired into water or from underwater to above the surface without changing its trajectory.
QUOTE
With DSG Technology’s MEA Supercavitating Rifle Ammo, you can fire at an underwater enemy target from above the water, an above-the-water enemy target from below the surface, or at an underwater target while you are also underwater. For example, a U.S. Navy SEAL diver can perform an underwater approach on an enemy vessel and engage targets of opportunity while he’s still submerged several meters underwater. The only caveat is that he’ll have to compensate for optical refraction to hit the target. The same thing goes for engaging underwater targets from above the water.

Olson, a United States Army biochemist and biological weapons researcher, was given LSD without his knowledge or consent in November, 1953 as part of a CIA experiment and died under suspicious circumstances a week later. A CIA doctor assigned to monitor Olson claimed to be asleep in another bed in a New York City hotel room when Olson exited the window and fell thirteen stories to his death. In 1953, Olson's death was described as a suicide that occurred during a severe psychotic episode. The CIA's own internal investigation concluded that CIA Director Stanley Gottlieb had conducted the LSD experiment with Olson's prior knowledge, although neither Olson nor the other men taking part in the experiment were informed as to the exact nature of the drug until some 20 minutes after its ingestion. The report further suggested that Gottlieb was nonetheless due a reprimand, as he had failed to take into account Olson's already-diagnosed suicidal tendencies, which might have been exacerbated by the LSD.
