I've always wondered something about the honour guards; Why are they using M16's? Shouldn't they be using the Lee Enfield rifle instead considering it was the first rifle we used to defend the nation?

The yanks uses the M1 Garand for obvious reasons and the Brits uses their current service rifle (L85 now, used to be L1A1).

The m16 was neither the first rifle we used nor is it our current service rifle. So, what's the deal?

we used what we have

Hastened? The replacement program had been in the works for awhile la bro. Even the Chinese J-10 was on the initial list. Thats why on the shortlist already got Typhoon, Rafale, F18F, SU-35, JAS39...

The postponement was purely bcoz theres not enough money or diverted to other procurement, namely the SGPV..
*
the shortlist means that particular aircraft is deemed suitable for the requirement.doesn't mean the government gonna buy it straight away

SGPV has it's own budget, anything has it's own budget

This.

See, if we had the source code for the F-18's, we could use the IRIS-T's on the hornet's as well.

You see what I'm trying to get at?  tongue.gif

fuiyoh!!! taiwan want they dont give... they give indons... and so cheap!!!

marehsia bodoh nak mampus... go buy sukhoi so exp... why dont go beg US to give also... oh wai... US hates the gomen
*
1-the US is worried about invoking China wrath by selling Taiwan new military equipment.Obama's administration is pushing for china to "invest" more in USA to salvage their economy.

with indon they have no such restriction.although concern from Australia and Singapore would still affect the deal

2-F-16 and Su-30MKM are completely different class of aircraft to begin with.and with Su-30MKM sophistication, weapon package and training,50 million dollar per unit is still cheaper than aircraft of comparable class(you know how much the korean and singaporean paid for their Eagle? you don't? exactly)

any more question?

i dont think block 25 can be upgraded to block 50 coz block 50 has a different airframe..
*
boleh.lebih kurang

there are MLU upgrade that practically bring the old F-16 to be as effective as block 50

but there's a reason why the US(and most western european countries that operates F-16) don't go that road;airframe fatigue

does it perform good in real battlefield? it looks like a cousin for US Army Stryker  blush.gif
*
adik beradik tuu...

Stryker is a good platform, problem is:
1-US army over equipped it and compromising it advantages:speed and silence
2-it is unsuitable in FIBUA operation.,yet it is being used simply because it has more capacity than M2 bradley

i'll be damned if slimy frenchies get a hold of the sacred C7

btw, people complain because the steyr is already a good rifle.even if want to replace, better go all out and get 416s
*
what so great about C7?it looks like a M4 with cosmetic changes(they get rid of the handle carry and paint the butt and forward grip green)

the 416,while has the improvement in firing mechanism, doesn't totally outperform the M4,since it shoot the same round and is almost as identical to the M4.besides when you're arming an army(of like 100000+ strong,i don't thing it will make any huge difference)

about steyr, well at least bebudak wataniah can get hold of it smile.gif although we wanna get hold of M4 too if possible

Royal Malaysian Navy selects DCNS' Gowind corvette for its Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) program

QUOTE
The Gowind frigate, designed by French company DCNS, has been selected for the Royal Malaysian Navy’s Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) programme. However, the contract for building the six ships remains on hold due to disagreements between the builder, Boustead Naval Shipyard Sdn Bhd (BNS), and the end user RMN, according to people familiar with the programme.

One of the key sticking points is BNS and DCNS’s insistence that the ships adopt the SETIS combat management system (CMS) designed by the French company.

RMN instead wants another system developed by Thales, the Tacticos, being integrated into one of its vessels, KD Kasturi.

The navy had hoped to reduce the number of CMS in its fleet to reduce training and support issues. RMN chief Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Jaafar told theSun yesterday that the government had chosen the Gowind design for the LCS programme.

He declined to confirm or deny speculation that the contract would only be signed when the RMN was satisfied that its requirements were met. He, however, confirmed most of the specifications for the ship had been finalised.

BNS managing director Tan Sri Ahmad Ramli Mohd Nor, however, denied the delay was due to disagreement with the end user.

“It is up to the government. We are ready to go forward,” said Ahmad Ramli, a former RMN chief.

Despite the delay, BNS is displaying a model of the Gowind frigate at the Langkawi International Maritime Aerospace exhibition here. The frigate is 107m-long with a displacement of 2,750 tonnes.

It will be armed with a 57mm gun, surface-to-air missiles and torpedoes. With four diesel engines, the ship will have a top speed of 29 knots. theSun had reported on Tuesday that the widely speculated deal for six LCS would be delayed until next year.

A report published in the Janes Defence Weekly stated that the Malaysian government was likely to postpone defence procurement in view of the general election, which could be held early next year.

The LCS contract has been in news since February after Defence Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi announced that the government had awarded BNS a RM6 billion contract to build six LCS or Second Generation Patrols Vessels for the RMN.

The announcement caused an uproar as critics claimed the price of the ships were inflated.
