Suspension given for using "panggilan gaul/panggilan akrab"

To whom it may concern,

I am an individual with the nick Joey Christensen when I login Lowyat.NET. I am writing in hopes of that you will reconsider your decision to suspend my account. The reason given by Ah WanG was, and I quote: "...cursing. 3 days. fnd out what is the meaning of the word malingsial you used before you post the word".

I'm not sure if he knows these but the word "maling sial" is akin to "panggilan gaul" or "panggilan akrab." I'm sure it's not intended to be the form of cursing. Honestly, it's very much of a teasing instead. What about those who called those Indonesian as "Indon" also known as bangsa hina? What about those who called Indonesian as "Indogs"? What about those who called others "oldfags"? What about those who called others "ah peks"? so on and so forth in equivalent.

I hope the Administrative team will reconsider my suspension of account and it would be most appreciative if I were to be given one day suspension only. I would like to thank you for taking the time to read this appeal and consider my request to reinstate my account so that I can login this Monday @ 24th January, 2011.

Regards, Joey

You must have missed the last banning spree during the Asian Cup.

You just plead for leniency in the other topic for everyone to see yet you made the same offense.

You still do not know the meaning of "malingsial" which shows your ignorance in lumping it together with "ah pek" or "oldfags". Maybe you treat the word "nigger" as the same because of your ignorance.

Let me teach you what it meant:
QUOTE
Malingsia (Noun) is a sarcastic slang for Malaysians. originally combined from 2 words "Maling" (Javanese, meaning "thief") and "Malaysia. Malaysia keeps claiming Indonesia's national cultures as malaysia's belonging, that's the etymology of the word Malingsia.

So pls respect yourself and not be ignorant.

Its pretty obvious that the name-calling is just poking fun at our country.

Thanks to some of the LYN users that have been messing around the Kaskus forum which allows the Indonesian members to retaliate back on our forums.

Ah Pek means old man or uncle, if you do not know, yet. So there isn't any offense in that term, yes?

the problem here is, unbeknownst to most malays, they think its an insult to the chinese, so they keep calling every chinese as ahpek thinking that its a racial slur, while in fact its just a common term for "old man".

I don't see ahpek is an insult in anyway compared to Malingsial. AkPek is a common word in Malaysia and NO, its not an insult nor abusive.

People are getting suspended from Sarcastic Slangs now?

Suggests everyone who uttered the phrase "indog" in this topic to be suspended for 3 days.

Get to work mods, you'll have a big workload ahead of you since you've just started this "sarcastic slang" suspension thing.

Was it? Guess I missed the banning spree that happened during the AFF Suzuki Cup 2010. Thou I am not interested with the piece of news. Anyway, thanks for telling, eh?
I am not pleading for leniency in other topic for everyone to see but it was a thread created with a mind on requesting for a review on suspension, and how long to serve for suspension...? The ultimatum of the creation of the thread is of seeking transparency from Administration and Moderating team. Is there a subset rules or regulations for it?

However, noien helped me for that I am requesting for an appeal from the Administrative to reconsider the suspension days given and to reinstate my account on an earlier date thus this is the main objective of this thread.

If I may take an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth; for every words thrown, a return of every words given. It shows your level of understanding and intelligence is questionable. The subject matter has been written THERE AND THEN: "Maling sial adalah semata-mata panggilan gaul/panggilan akrab." If you were to say, and it has been said that it is a sign of ignorance of tagging it with "ah pek", "oldfags" and "nigger", as vocal as you can be, sometimes it can be a disrespectful manner when one perceives. Since it's blessed with ignorance for the above to be folded in an envelope, don't bite me after what I've written thus far.

Thank you for teaching me for the fact that I've known that for years while I'm schooling. However, it was a provocative replies (twice in the thread, I believe) that the word was used. It was merely poking fun as in camaraderie form of neighbouring countries (Malaysia-Indonesia).

I do respect myself but sometimes it is good to be ignorant, as of not knowing can be of a blessing.

Regards, Joey

It was 3 days for you and it's final.
Those poking fun during the Asian Cup rivalry got a more serious note during then as it got blown out of proportion. They got 7 days instead or are you saying that we should award you with 7 days instead to be fair to them.

There's no specific suspension period where we adhere. No we don't think your "joke" was funny, nor do others which reported your posts (thus we took action). So we could have suspend you for 7 days or even more if we felt like it. But generally it's 3, 7, 14 , month or even permaban. Ah Wang could have suspend you for more than 7 days if he felt like it since you just recently came back from suspension.

You do not get saman for speeding and plead ignorance saying that you do not know the speed limit.

As long as mods are willing to enforce their rules. Just make sure you guys have a strict guideline on what constitutes a violation of the rules.

On a sidenote. Maybe we should make a list of words that is under the derogatory/sarcastic/offensive slangs rule. Going from Aardvark to Zealots.

Whenever someone reports or when we stumble upon, we will act on it.
However I personally doesn't think it's worth it to compile a list because to me, it's just pure common sense. You don't make fun unto others when you do not expect to be treated the same.
Those who are familiar with /k/ will know that we even suspended someone for using "ching chong"/"nigger" as well as other slangs meant for racial insults. So when we suspended Indonesians from using the word "Malon"/"MalaySial"/"Malonsing" etc... we also do the same on Malaysian hurling the same insults towards ourselves as well as towards our Indonesian neighbour.

Well said, bOOn. Those who play with racial sentiments should be banned. Enough with the racist remarks already. The weird thing is, most of those who are involved with this racial thingy only dare to show guts in /k/ and none in RWI.

b00n: Never underestimate the ignorance of the people. The list is a safeguard. So that these "I told you so/you should've known" moments won't happen again, it will also better serve to regulate the forums. Might even hasten the moderation process. As any moderator worth their salt would just need to check for flagged words and the context of the post.

I will also like the mods and admins to ban people for using the term 2" on other forumers because it's a racist slang.
