1] rule of thumb is thicker = less resistance = more signal passing thru'..
2] what is cheap? Belden 12 awg is ard rm20 per mtr if bought loose.. 3] not really .. but it is easier to hook n unhook then bare wire .. |

My rule of thumb. How thick or how expensive or colorful does not matter. If it sounded nice, buy it. If hear no different in sound, buy the cheapest. Been there. Done that.

QUOTE(jeehouhee @ Jan 22 2011, 05:26 PM) Let me relate a true story to you. Once I went to the KL AV show filled with many mega-buck audio equipment importer. But the one room that captivated me the most with seductive natural sounding vocal was a room without any of those. The gentlemen in that room must be doing a "up-yours" show throwing sand into the face of the other exhibitor and you know what he use? He uses a common Red & Black wire(interconnect) to connect his very old CD Player to his very old amplifier (both must be over 10 yrs old). Instead of speaker cable the size of garden hose, he uses an very old wire that's too short and had to be 'joined' together using common tape. Morale of the story: 1. Size isn't everything. 2. Money isn't everything. 3. Sexy new technology isn't everything System matching is everything in sound reproduction. Now if you wanted to save money and still wanted something better, go check out QED. Oh.....if your equipment is good enough, you will find different wire often sounded differently. But if your equipment is just a car stereo quality type, you would not hear any different and just buy the cheapest or buy one that impresses your girl friend the most.
