RTM1 back in the game
KUALA LUMPUR: It was a decision that brought joy to millions of football fans across the nation. RTM1 received the greenlight from the Information, Communications and Culture Ministry to air the Asian Zone pre-Olympic first-leg match between Malaysia and Pakistan three hours before the kickoff (8.45pm) yesterday. The government-owned TV station will also air the return leg in Lahore on March 9. Earlier, RTM were negotiating the deal with M-League commercial rights-holder Astro but it came to a standstill. RTM1 had in the past paid RM6 million to the FA of Malaysia (FAM) to broadcast the matches. Astro demanded the same amount but RTM1 had only wanted to pay about RM4 million for the first two years, followed by RM5 million and later RM6 million in a five-year deal. The long wait, however, irked fans as RTM1 failed to show M-League matches since the start of the season last month. Media Prima's TV3 were interested in showing the matches but Astro apparently insisted on honouring their arrangement with RTM1. The sum that RTM1 and Astro have agreed on for both legs remains unknown. Nevertheless, industry insiders believe this is a step in the right direction. "It looks like RTM1 will be airing the local league again very soon. We're looking at next month," said an insider. "There is a need for one free-to-air station to cover the league for the benefit of the fans. TV3 are still interested and are still looking at ways to come in." The sudden surge of interest in the domestic league came about after Malaysia won the 2009 Laos Sea Games gold medal followed by the Asean Cup victory in December last year. Malay Mail |

Ukraine to promote Suzuki Cup to Ukrainian fans ![]() ![]() KUALA LUMPUR, March 1 (Bernama) -- Ukraine, which is co-hosting the UEFA Euro 2012 soccer championship with Poland, can help promote the Asean Football Federation''s 2012 Suzuki Cup to Ukrainian soccer fans, says Ukraine''s ambassador to Malaysia, Ihor Humennyi. Malaysia, the defending champions, is co-hosting the 2012 Suzuki Cup regional tournament with Thailand. Humennyi, who met officials of the Football Association of Malaysia last week, said there was potential in promoting the Suzuki Cup to Ukranian soccer fans and "we can help". "We know that there are many enthusiastic soccer fans out there in Ukraine who may want to see something on this side of the world," the envoy said. Humennyi, who had been the ambassador to Thailand, said this could also be facilitated by the direct air links between Ukraine and Thailand. Currently, there are many daily flights between Malaysia and Thailand. Ukraine, currently ranked 34th on FIFA''s list, did not make the cut to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa when it lost narrowly at 0-1 to Greece in the final group play-off. Ukraine''s top soccer club is Dynamo Kiev and has made it to the last 16 of this year''s UEFA Champions League. QUOTE(aressandro10 @ Mar 3 2011, 11:31 AM) for me Ashaari Shamsudin is really an enigma... he is skillfull but i dont see him as the most outstanding midfielder out there compare to other national team players... he does not have that dominating charisma. a midfielder with striker instinct. i rather see him play as forward than midfielder for our national teamby statistically, he always be there or thereabout on the top scorer list year in year out... for a midfielder, that is awesome... Added on March 3, 2011, 1:43 pmAffize and Wan Zack Haikal are down injured and looks likely will miss the return leg against Pakistan in Lahore This post has been edited by AKace: Mar 3 2011, 01:43 PM |

QUOTE(aressandro10 @ Mar 6 2011, 09:04 PM) i think it is not right for the management to pressure Ahmad Yusof and Wan Jamak after 6 games this season... Kedah and N9 are among the most succesfull team last season... they just need dome time to solve some hiccup.. 14 teams = 26 matches6 matches = roughly 1/4 of the season This post has been edited by AKace: Mar 6 2011, 09:42 PM |
