Do you guys know that Maxis has activated this service for some postpaid customers?

Just in case you haven't noticed, when you call someone who switches his phone off you get a sms

"RM 0. Your sms didn't reach XXXXXX as the phone is switched off. It'll be sent once the phone is switched on. To stop these alerts, send STOP to 22021"

This is FOC.

But lately Maxis has gotten smart, and apparently they have activated this service called NOtifyme. They send me a sms disclaimer :" RM0. Enjoy NotifyMe Free trial until 28/2. It will inform you when your friends are available to take calls again. To deactivate dial *100# > services > notifyme"

This is basically activating this service for me by default , which they will start charging in March 2011. This is an unfair trade practice for maxis to opt-out unsolicited value-add services for its customers.

I just checked *100# --> services ---> notifyme and confirmed this service was activated for me WITHOUT my knowledge from Maxis.

My supplementary line just got charged 5 sen per notification. Got an sms from maxis.

"RM0.05. The number 012XXXXXX that you called at 7.00pm 21.1.11 is now available. You may call the number now".

WTF????

Although it's not a lot 5 sen , but I do feel upset because I never know Maxis will stoop so low to such unfair trade practices. What's MCMC response to this to protect the interest of consumers?

Just called up 123 maxis to complain, and do you know what was the response from them?

QUOTE
Maxis: It's only 5 sen per notification sir, if you don't like the service you can deactivate it later.

Me: It's not the issue of 5 sen , but of you activating unsolicited services for me without my knowledge. What if I am not aware of this, then I will kena charge like that lar for services that I didn't request?

How about those number 22021? we all know how unscrupulous you all can become when we send whatever sms reply to those short codes, who knows by sending STOP you will activate another service for me? that was why i couldn't be bothered with your first sms, but it looks like you took your own liberty to activate this service for me.

Maxis you please hear this - I am going to TERMINATE my service once my Iphone contract expires. I am not going to support a company with unfair trade practices.

Last time same issue Nokia cheated me with my caller ringtones. They terminate all my 15 ring tones. Last time offer was RM3 for 15 ring tones but now is RM2 each song. So i reported. Maxis called ask me whether my problem settle or not.

I think its the association that protect pengguna i forget the name di

But this is directly from maxis!

Don't you see the problem here that got me so riled up?

They activate this service for all my lines without me requesting for it, and they have start charging for one of my supplementary line - 5 sen per notifyme nonsense. This is an opt-out service. Which means it's activated for you , and you need to say "NO" to them in order not to be charged.

It reminds me of a scam from a local bank few years back. They sent you a credit card and they put some opt-out disclaimer by saying "if you do not reply to this mail within 14 days, we will assume you have agreed to the terms and conditions of getting this new Credit Card". Someone made a complaint to Bank Negara and that bank was reprimanded.

So maxis is telling us that if we don't do anything or be silent about this service, they will assume that you want this service and start charging you for it.

This isn't right.

How come I am the only one making noise here? are you all ok with Maxis charging you 5 sen ? unsure.gif

Complain at MCMC. Read my sig. Link and instructions provided.

5 sens is A LOT...imagine each customer 10 of this notifications...50 cents..* how many millions customer??? Say 5 million?? 5 million * 0.5= RM 2.5 million for MAXIS everymonth...FOR NOTHING....

I am jumping to DIGI tmrw.

Thanks matrix. I will write in to MCMC to file a complaint. Maxis is getting desperate to push up their ARPU. I am jumping to Celcom but I am still tied with Maxis iphone contract. I already made up my mind to port, there isn't a point supporting a company doing hanky-panky business.

TS,

Thanks for opening this thread. This service is not bad, but such practice is really unethical.

They make you enjoy the service free of charge, then later started to silently charge the users?
*
They already started charging me for my supplementary line today. I have filed a complaint to MCMC just now. This is a classic day light robbery. What about those uncles/aunties who don't understand english or BM well? free money like that lar.

Why is maxis getting so cunning lately? Are they that desperate to increase their ARPU?

is the service applicable to the prepaid users also?

Apparently there were some unhappy Hotlink users here

http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopi...&#entry35937625

They started activating this service for hotlink customers about half a year ago. Now, they are trying to push this service to postpaid users.

SoultoSoul: How did ur complain with MCMC goes? Farid, i suggest you make a complain to MCMC as well. When there's more people make complains, there'll be more records to show MAXSUCKS™ evil pratices.

Filed a report with MCMC. Yea, Maxis called me 1 week later to explain that they activated this service for "selected few customers" which I politely pointed out to him that this is an unfair trade practice which I don't need.

Maxis has since deactivated NotifyMe service (me and supplementary lines) and claimed that all my lines have been put under their "no advertisement, privacy list". They also promised to revert back whatever charges they made under this service.

Until today, I haven't received any usual irritating promotions from Maxis. Hope they keep their words to put me in their privacy list.

I suggest for all aggrieved parties to lodge a complaint with MCMC if you are not satisfied with Maxis charging you for this service and to force Maxis to revert back all the charges.

this service is it FREE for postpaid?

Free until 28/2 from the sms they sent me.

After that, if you choose not to do anything (and remain oblivious) , they will start charging. You have to deactivate the service to avoid being charged. Now, THAT suck.
