The soviets used them in WWII against German Panzers. Panzerabwehrhunde!
The problem was - to train them the soviets used their own tanks which ran off low-grade diesel whereas German panzers used gasoline.
So when they eventually deployed the dogs, they had a tendency to run back to their own own lines........
