It is not so much of a actual CL but it is more like a safety feature which the bank implemented to protect customers against petrol stations frauds which used to be rampant several years back. Each time you swipe/insert card into the machine at the petrol station, the card takes away a certain credit limit which is about RM200-RM250 depending on the bank.

This amount is then recalculated based on the actual claim by petrol station/actual usage by the customer and the surplus is returned back to your CL.

In the event of the error ... sometimes the machine already sent the transaction request to the bank although you did not pump anything. Likely hood of erroneous claim is low, so don't worry too much. Swipe too many times on a particular day and actually it would seem to the bank that you are pumping too much petrol for your own personal use thus the bank blocks further transaction for petrol.

To be more technically precise, use your online banking system to "advise" you on whether the CL has been released or not. CL will be released once the petrol station submits their actual cc claims. It is not necessarily 1-2 days as this is only true if the station submits their actual claim at the end of every business day but there are times when they submit a few days later.

Normally, petrol stations submit their claims at the end of every business day so that they can get paid by the bank within the next 3-4 days later.

Honestly, you need not worry about this too much unless you are using like 90%-95% of your CL already.

Express Pay is meant for utilities & telco bill right? For insurance, you should be referring back to the insurance company.

If im not wrong, Insurance companies doesnt accept Amex.

The exchange rate is determined by American Express and there will be a 2.5% admin charge from Maybank. And it will be more expensive than VISA/MasterCard.

5X membership rewards  or 5X Treatpoints ? What kind of AMEX are you using now ? Maybankard 2 Card AMEX ? If it is a Maybankard 2 Card AMEX, then it is 5X Treatpoints.

Luckily you've changed it to MBB VISA then. AMEX Gold gives only 2x MR for most transactions and this includes Amazon.com.

5X MR for AMEX Gold Credit Card for Groceries, Petrol, Telephone Bills and some bookstore and NOT for online transactions. For general transactions, AMEX's AMEX earn the cardholder 2X TP or 1% returns.

Hard to say, it depends on their backend processing system. You may try call in CS to ask how long it takes, if ok, to redeem and later if got late charges, to TRY ask them to waive it.

In my case, once got statement (20 days period), within first week I call to redeem. Then I know how much balance I need to pay. All settled before the due date.

My suggestion, is to redeem it next month to avoid possible trouble (manual work to follow up, frust, angry, waste time, waste tel money). Mark it down in calendar/outlook/appointment/handphone reminder.
