Brothers. I'm planning to change my N8 to Desire. Wise move? Attracted to the customization possibilities of Android.

Desire faces 1 big problem. A pitiful 150MB internal space and it is giving me a lot of pain. Trying to figure out how to root now, failing so far

Anyway, pick the Desire HD if you like Desire.

Oxygen is based from CM7 rom.. so the rom is nearly identical.. i'm on CM7 now..

I don't know man, I'm not much of an app whore but I'm seriously facing problems especially when a lot of apps are using cache and data builds over time, all on internal memory. Not everyone buys an Android thinking to root man, in itself Android is already SO MUCH better than iPhone, thus the reason why we chose Android. I just rooted right before posting this, couldn't stand low memory anymore lol, and I want Gingerbread!
Eh? How did you get 1GB of internal memory on Desire? Are you sure?

Well, at least they 'tried' to improve it for Desire HD with 1.5g o_o Let's hope the next Desire will be better X}

and also, with CM7 nightly, is it necessary to update the ROM regularly?

before this i use auto backlight.. but i dont have that issue..

Went into ClockWorkMod and flash my phone back to MIUI. Will follow your steps and flash CM7 Now that I've done it... rooting and flashing is pretty safe... How come people make it to be so dangerous? Or I've not encounter the dangerous part yet?

this is because your current sensor did not detect much lux to trigger to correct brightness. you can always set min brightness

cm setting -> display -> auto backlight

tick use custome and edit other level. there you can set min value vs lux reading

like this.
if your surrounding is between 100-300 lux by default set value is 35 (minimum set by default).
you can change this value to up 255=100% brightness. if you change default value let say 65. min setting will go as low as 65 only.
you can play around this value that suit you eyes. if you set min value too high, you must consider if you are in no light environment.

math
(65/255)*100%= 25% brightness

my setting is like below
