Hi how long you've been using it??
*
About 8 months, i would say.

QUOTE(thxxht @ Jun 5 2011, 12:51 PM)
you might need to get some aircans and blow off the dusks. Been using my G73 for 8 months now and my temps are usually 80s at load
*
Yea, i just ordered one, it's coming soon.

Just one question, do you blow it like how the guy clean his in the video?

QUOTE(NUR_VER.3 @ Jun 5 2011, 11:05 PM)
it could be caused by ambient temp,

currently its winter in perth, i can play games(Crysis 2, star craft, Warhammer)with temp less than 68 degree. Plus i also have the notebook cooler underneath
*
Well, yours is a JW, so it doesnt apply in this case. JH runs hotter than JW.

My max load used to be 88C and now, 91C.

yes, exactly like that, you'll most likely see one or two ball of dusk coming out of the opening.
if the aircan aren't helping then it's probably time to use a new paste.
*
Wont it damage the fan, as the air current is pretty strong.

My air can just arrive today, and just tried on my M1530. Looks like only like 3 bust balls come out.

Am i suppose to see a lot of dust balls? Or just a few?

I think both are pretty much the same, in terms of quality.

MSI does look pretty nice in real life, as the pictures do not do justice to how it looks. I seen one before, and it isnt as juvenile, as i used to think.

The glossy /shinning surface does make it looks quite good. Along with the orange lights, it looks decent.

Asus, IMO, the quality is pretty good too. I like the B2 Spirit or Nighthawk design.

Asus is just lazy when it comes to their re-designs/new designs. And their current approach seems to be targeting the lower spectrum of high end gaming machines. They don't offer 6970s or even 485/580s and not to mention optimus/manual switching. That's why i jumped ship, but i really hope they can up their game, ASUS has good price value ratio for their products.
*
I think its more like Asus still could not make a decent gaming level laptop yet, where they are not confident enough to go to the high end spectrum. Remember the infamous heating issues in G72, or even the early batch of G73 have heating issues. G53SW, heard some batches have CPU heating issue. Not to forget about the G73 vBIOS problem, keys dropping issue. G53 is already a huge step of improvement, IMO.

RoG needs to get their QC right first before heading to the high end spectrum.

If they cant get these things straight, how can you expect them to come out with a 585TX laptop? Asus definitely dont have the capability to do so for now.

I think, just give the mobile RoG department time to learn how to make decent gaming laptops. Look at how good is their RoG desktop parts, especially the mobo in overclocking. Just give them time, and they will catch up to Sager or AW.

I would want to change if i have the money. BF3 seem to be too demanding for a G73. Probably need a Sandy Bridge i7 and a 585M GTX to enjoy this game at high. On the other hand, G73 isnt that bad, compared to other laptops. We are already quite far ahead of the rest.

Apparently if u lurk NBR, u might find out there are several batches of Asus HD5870m cards. 2 Batches are not the GSOD ones. G73 is still good for mainstream games at High details. But don't quite expect a mobile gpu to have equal performance level as the desktop graphic.
*
Mine is the second batch, manufactured in August 2010 with a newer BIOS, 209, but i still get GSOD when i first got it.

Their QA isnt really good, IMO.

if that's the case then i guess i'm not up to speed on the models, Asus's modeling schemes are confusing. Can't be sure unless you do some googling around tongue.gif
I'm very sure SW is just normal FHD display in US. and why is your screen only up to 1366x768, isn't that abit low ? @_@
*
IMO 3D isnt worth it.

It's just a gimmick for something that is useless. It halves your FPS for some fancy 3D effect. It's not worth it at the end of the day.

At the same time, im a 3D hater, as i find it made the image quality worse for some 3D effect.

Also nuclear dawn is a very interesting and exciting game coming up. I've been dreaming of this sort of game for years... since i was 13-14 (basically a FPS where soldiers get commands from a real person being the 'commander' Blending the RTS and FPS genres drool.gif )

Dont know man, i dont really trust these indie multiplayer games, unless i know the devs pretty well. Most of the time, it has small or dead community.

And Steam have been stocking up a lot on indie games, and after a few of them like Dino D-Day, Monday Night Combat(good game, but dead community) and Lead and Gold. I have become very skeptical with these indie multiplayer games.

It's not like Killing Floor where there are a reasonable size of community and support.

Probably gonna stick to the tried and tested ones like Defence Grid, Beat Hazard and so on. Yea, im getting Limbo and From Dust where i do not need to worry about community size. Most indies really do not have the capability to nurture a decent size community.

Sadly, the gaming version of indies are no where as good as the music indies. Great idea, but most of the time, badly executed or polished.

@cheesenium well i gotta give them a chance... the gameplay mechanics doesn't look fantastic but its somewhat of a childhood dream... just don't know whether to wait for sale to get it, or just fork over 22 dollars.
*
Well for me, any indie game more than 15USD, i wont buy it, as they have pretty much nothing to assure the quality of the game. Especially multiplayer, how do you know you will still find players after 1 month?

Yeah, something like Breach. Good game concept and overall solid FPS but the community is pretty dead now.
*
Breach was badly done, where its the one of the best examples why some indie games failed.

Not to forget Monday Night Combat, Lead and Gold, and so on.

I wouldn't really call it badly done. It was badly implemented in a sense and lacked support but it was otherwise decent. Still, for $12 I'm not really complaining.

Never tried Monday Night Combat though. Lead and Gold is... really really lackluster. If it wasn't for that free weekend and sale where it piqued my curiosity, wouldn't even have touched it.  doh.gif

Btw, Cheese, any good indie games you played lately or are you sticking to mainstream gaming?
*
I am never really a fan of these indie shooters, to be honest, as they usually lack of polish, as i have said.

However, i do enjoy Killing Floor and its a far better game than L4D2. The weapons feels right, and its quite a different experience.

I have also played other indies like Defence Grid, which is the best tower defence game on PC. Far better than any other tower defence. Annomally: Warzone Earth is amazing too, being the opposite of tower defence. Oh, it is on sale on Steam now for 3.60USD. Highly recommended. I have Terraria, but i rarely play. I love the music based games too, like Audiosurf and Beat Hazard.

Looking forward to Limbo. smile.gif

Besides, i am not against indie, but just quite skeptical about them as most of them arent so good. I play some mainstream games, from paid ones to some free to play. Since there are almost limitless games out there, might as well pick the best few to enjoy, dont you agree?

Ah true that. Already got most of the games you mentioned, might try out Anomaly though. Not too sure about Limbo, not much of a fan for those kind of games. nod.gif

I got Limbo, with 1 hour play through.

It's actually feels damn atmospheric for a platformer.

It's more like puzzles than the twitchy kind.

tried the demo for LIMBO, the atmosphere was very nice andvery tempted to get it... but short on cash D:
*
I finished the game in 5 hours. It's a damn good game, especially the various meaning behind the ending. The front part is probably one of the most enjoyable levels in the game, just that towards the end, its not as fun as the beginning.

Highly recommended, if it drops to 5USD or less.

yea bushido, what's ur steam ID? mine is DoubleU22

hm... i dun really enjoy tf2 that much cause i end up raging alot, but i'll play if my friend's play.
*
Its more like you are not used to it. I used to hate it when i first got it 2 years ago.

Then, after like 1 month i bought it, i love it.

It can be confusing for new players and old players will eat you for breakfast. Thats where the rage come from.

And also the most annoying part is, if your team have more than 1/4 of your team are snipers or spies and lost every game. I dont know whats so fun with spies and snipers.

You need a 580GTX SLi to max BF3.

460GTX for Medium.

So, my G73 is probably looking at Low. sad.gif

I got into BF3 Beta.

Running one Medium, mostly, with High textures and SBAO. No AA at all, at 1080p.

fps is about 25 to 50. 25 to 35 outside, and 45 to 50 in the tunnel. Thats just a small map though.
