hi all
i found something extremely stupid about Maybank AMEX system today
i make 4 same online transactions today. why did i make 3? this is why
1) key in security code (front of card) -> get wrg security code
2) key in "security code" (back of card) -> same error as 1
3) key in security code again (front) -> thought i keyed it wrong the 1st time but still get error
curious and frustrated, i call Amex card center... and guess what? the security code ON MY CARD DOES NOT TALLY with the security code ON THEIR SYSTEM
how can this happen? but ok.. nvm.. i asked them to change the security code (they suggested). then i check about the status of my transactions (just double checking).
guess what? AMEX approved all 3 transactions.
even at the merchant side, i get the error "wrong security code" but AMEX can approve the payment. Yes, i know that approved payment is not much. they just approved it and wait for the merchant to request for the money before they debit my account.
Now, come the next surprises. My Credit card limit is down by RM1.5k. why? because of the 3 transactions. they say they cant do any reversal and i need to ask the merchant to cancel my order. The funny thing is, i called the merchant and they claimed that they did not received any payment, pending payment or any sort of payment related to my account. Now, i dont doubt the merchant because it is a international merchant. Furthermore, i had used their services before. The merchant is also a big company. i dont want to reveal the merchant name but the merchant is involved in online training and examination. For those in the field, you should know who am i talking about. There's only a few of them
then i ask them how can they approved the payment if the security code i provide is INVALID? they claim that this depends on the merchant "verification tools" some of them dont accept the security code (whats the point of having them in the 1st place then?)
Then i ask if someone got my credit card number (it is easy for anyone to get your credit card number), they can use the card and simply purchase anything online. When asked to provide the security code, they can simply just key in anything and the system will approve the payment. So does this mean i need to pay for that? Payment being approved eventhough the verification is INVALID? guess what is their answer? YES
i also ask since the security code is at the front, what is the 3 digit number at the back of the card then? they say that it served no purpose (someone enlighten me on this please). when i asked is it for decorations only? they reply YES
now they say that they cant cancel the payment. If the merchant requested for the payment then i can file a dispute on this case

if the merchant did not request for payment, the case will close and my account will be credited rm1.5k back
Now i would like to ask all sifus here. anyone of u used AMEX before? IS THE SECURITY SO DAMN SUCKS? HOW CAN IT APPROVED THE PAYMENT WHEN THE GOD DAMN SECURITY CODE IS NOT VALID?
This case really drops my confidence level in AMEX card. IT IS DAMN UNSECURE. they can afford to have the security code PRINTED ON MY CARD different from the ONE IN THEIR SYSTEM

Oh.ok. NOw clear. Thanks for the clarification.

Thinking of converting my existing card to these cards since the amex promotion very attractive. But my card just few months old. Didnt expect maybank would come out this plan.
i would suggest you to stay away from amex. read my post above. so damn inefficient
yes i know it is not AMEX fault but it is the bank fault. But currently on MBB has AMEX. as for Hong Leong Amex, some of the promotions does not include HL AMEX. for example 15% cash back.
