all using chinese movement, maybe from hangzhou, liaoning or maybe seagull for those more expensive ones.

I would get a seagull

that would defeat the purpose of me purchasing the watch

the brand is relatively unknown to most people , i am purchasing the watch in order to elevate my status
*
then just get a rolex sub? Classic and well known. Just get a watch which makes you feel good.

What is your budget?

I like the Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean Chronograph

user posted image
Reasonable price, big presence (45mm), in-house coaxial, COSC certified movement, sexy looking.

For this price range, I personally feel it is better than comparable offerings by Tag and Rolex.

I love all my watches, but yes, I am partial to PAM, although I only own one right now since I prefer to buy watches of diff brands vs accumulating the same.

Added on May 6, 2011, 4:54 pm

i can see how it resembles the PAM Ferrari Scuderia with the subdial details.

hopefully he enjoys it, otherwise i have to go back and find something else.

If you like the PO chrono, check out the 2011 model with the all new 9300 movement.

Dear all,

Would like to get your opinion, i would like to upgrade my current watch - SEIKO Criteria to a Tag, Oris or MIDO.

My Budget is 4K.

I've been eyeing on the Tag Formula 1 Grande Date (not the black and white 1, is the Similar Kimi Raikonen's edition 1)

I get an offer around 3.8k for it. What u guys think for paying 3.8k get the a quart move watch?

For Oris, i see those nice design 1 price at 8-9k which i cannot affort. Those entry level 1 looks just too simple.

For MIDO, how would you rank this watch? Is it good? Hows the reputation?

Is there any suggestion for 4k budget... pls do let me know... TOTALLY APPRECIATE.
*
please do yourself justice and get a ML instead. ML pontos day date is a best selling ML model which fits nicely in your budget. 4.3k after discount if i'm not wrong. Independent watchmaker with great attention to detail IMO. And seriously for that price your tasting a very handsome entry model product of theirs.

Whether its worth it to buy a quarts watch for 3.8k is very subjective. If it makes you feel all good then go ahead. For me i wouldn't. As for your question on mido, how do you define good?

originally i was after the same watch last year .. but after much hesitation I changed my mind and decided to take more time to save more money so that I have more options to choose from
right now I already have made my mind on what to get, but you never know by the time when i save enough which will be end of this year i would change my mind, I ve read in other watch forum a lot of bad reviews on Portofino thought.

And i am the person who likes to travel to new places , so I kinda like the idea of having an "explorer"

ever considered a datejust?

1 more question... Does the diameter of the watch really play a role in watch selection rather than personal preference?

I try on a few watch with the diameter at around 41-42mm... i Find it small a bit compare to my old seiko (44mm)... also, i am kindda big size..  Please advise..
p/s: for camera lens. Usually they categories a good/quality lens diameter should not be less than 72mm(dun count in prime lens). Does this theory apply to watch?
*
That depends on your wrist size. When you buy a shirt, you choose the size of your shirt depending on your body size. Occasionally. there will be people telling you "slim fit" shirts are in fashion. This is the same when it comes to watches. Generally, 41-42 mm is "the ideal" size now. But what the heck is ideal? the ideal size of watches used to be 36-39mm for men. So what i'm trying to say is, just get whatever that makes you happy because at the end of the day that is what that really matters. I wouldn't care about what others think about the watch i'm wearing because as long as i feel good towards myself, thats all that matters. What others think all boils down to perception, which is really subjective.

Pls advise me which 1 to choose and suggest more....

1. ML Day Date PONTOS          -4.5k
2. ML Crono Les classiques      - 5.2k
3. MIDO Multifort                    -4k

All amount above need to pay in 1 shot... no installment 1...
Personally i think ML is nicer to wear around because of light weight.
I also like the detailness of MIDO but it is quite heavy and think... weight is like double ML offer..

Also, pls tell me what is ML 112 movement for the ML Crono Les Classiques... is it good/accurate?
*
You wont go wrong with ML. Any range is great. Well you cant expect an in house movement with the price your paying, but still the finish of the watch is great.

I've been going watchless for years now and lately Ive been thinking of maybe getting myself a decent watch.

Should I get myself two pair of watches, one for formal/business settings and another for a casual setting? Or should i just get a nice watch thatll suit both situations? My budget would be around 1.2k, max. In other words if i get two pair, itll be RM600 each or so. What do you watch-sifus think?

Specs:
Black dial (a white dial would still be acceptable i guess)
black leather strap
automatic movement if its possible within the price range (which i believe it isnt)
chronograph

Well, my watch knowledge is pretty limited so i cant give much more detailed specification to ask for.
*
Well do you really need a chronograph? If not i would recommend the tissot visodate. Basic, timeless and relatively worth your money.

Their less classique lines do not use their in house movements. Only their masterpiece lines do. Others are decorated stock movements. Nevertheless the pontos day date is nice, below 5k after discount.
