After thinking high and low on what to buy for so long, in the end I decided on:

user posted image

It is such a wonderful watch at its price range of RM 3XX.00. At least it is something that will not break my bank-account.

And with so many cool features, it is a bargain IMO.

Tag: other people will recognise and be `impressed'.  Watch kakis will not, because its a quartz

Oris: watch kaki will prefer because its mechanical.  But if you meet the more `advanced' watch kakis..they will say save more and get a better brand.

MIDO: low profile, nothing to shout about.  Doesnt really bring a `wow' to people.

My point is this...buy what you like.  for 4k, I will go for auto, rather than a quartz...
Also, much of what you pay for the Tag will be for advertising......

There was a recent online LVMH sale....but deliver only to US..the Chronograph F1 was sold at USD 599...plus tax, plus courier to Malaysia, etc, etc..its less than RM2500....
Some F1 models (non Chrono) were for sale at USD399...
Mido has some nice models i think.  Hamilton too.  Ball too.....Fortis has its own group of followers and some of their lines are nice...
some of the Maurice Lacroix maybe better...check out collectorstime.com  slightly above your budget but definitely better than what you suggested...IMHO
*
Mido's design are rather boring...

Can I get some feedback on Ball's watches? Are they worth their money? I am kind of attracted to their heavy duty kind of image/feature.

For example I called up to one shop in MidValley and inquired about their Engineer Master II Chronometer. The sales person quoted RM 6,200.00 less 25% = RM 4,650.00. It seems like a tempting buy for a COCS certified Swiss made time-piece. What does other forumers think/opine?

Human Nature, why don't you consider Ball?
Meet your budget, tougher build with H3 gas tube which glow for 25 years!

Strongly agreed on Ball. For <RM5K, you can also get a COSC certified timepiece. What a steal!

Dear horology enthusiast,

Just wondering how much is the Piaget Altiplano & JLC Ultra Thin entry level price?

QUOTE(CHiNO730)
I have been quite disappointed w/Panerai lately.

This is the second time in the past two years I have had to service this watch.  Why?  The first time the COSC certified chronometer had to visit the service center because it would not keep elapsed time past 6.5 hours.  It was repaired but not long after the minute counter on the chronometer stopped functioning (the hand would "tick" but return back to 0 immediately after each minute had elapsed).  In fact, embarassingly enough, I was at the JLC store performing an inspection on my JLC watch when the technician said he would look at my Panerai as well.  He is the one that noticed the problem w/my Panerai.  He was kind of enough to say "It's a beautiful watch, but this is considered a serious problem and you should get this fix immediately."  Very true - a timepiece with a chronograph should function accurately as a chronograph, at any price.

When I received my watch, there was a large and noticeable scratch on the side.  I didn't notice until I returned home, but the Panerai store manager said they would polish it out at no charge.  Ok good enough.

But I am starting to think that the infallible Valjoux 7753 is not quite as reliable and robust as it made out to be.  Maybe I got a defective unit from Panerai?  I have a similar feeling of when I had my Audi A6.  It was always in the repair shop for something, and although it was such a beautiful car to own and drive, those moment where it was with the mechanic for service made me wonder if such ownership was worth it.  I don't think I should be feeling this way about a watch that costs RM ~25k

Still, when it's functioning properly, I feel great about it and IMO it's one of the best looking watches out there.  biggrin.gif

what should a professional financial planner that wants to look good in formal clothes with tie and shows a sense of professionalism and well elegant taste watch with a budget of hm, lets say 5k

haha, i hope i made sense

For < RM 5K, get Maurice lacroix Les Classique range. In-house movement, swiss made, no overprice celebrity endorsement.

Or get Tissot Visodate ard >RM 2K. (pls note it is mass produced ETA movement, but to the untrained eyes it still look good.

When you are managerial post,

Try to get Jaeger Master Piece Ultra Thin, Audermar Piguet Jules.

When you have been made partner,

Then Patek Phillipe Calatrava, Piaget Altiplano

[quote=Naka7a,Sep 7 2011, 01:22 PM]Xuzen,  there's nth wrong with the couturier. The thing is... There's not much "soul" to it I feel. Probably because it was mass produced.

Me aint no think much about soul for <RM 2K product. It is just purely functional to me.

What's the difference between this 1853 and the coutourier?

Added on November 13, 2011, 11:58 amIs the ball fair in midvalley still on?
*
Coutourier is automatic, prettier, very appropriate dress watch. But then, I am biased coz I am owner of one.

Was at MidValley today and spent some time at the ball exhibition.

Must say lots of poison.

Some of the models that caught my eyes are: (All prices quoted after discount of 30%)

i) Engineer Hydrocarbon Spacemaster @ RM 7,000.00
ii) Engineer Master II Diver COSC @ RM 5,850.00
iii) Enginner Master II Diver World Time @ RM 5,850.00 (sold out) - Winner of BaselWorld Timepiece of the year 2011

Right now, I am in a huge dilemma on which to choose:

Either

Any of the above three or

Orient Diver 300m Pro @ RM 3,920.00

Ball's Pro are COSC certification, is Swiss pedigree. A special note on Enginner Hydrocarbon buckle... extremely gorgeous. Need to handle her to know it. Her Cons are Stock ETA movement, more expensive than Orient.

Orient's Pro is fully in-house movement and she is cheaper. Cons = Japan made lar, won't appreciate in value like a Swiss.

Please advice, fellow horologist ethusiast.

I also went to over to the Tissot shop at MidValley lst weekend and I saw a Heritage Limited Edition Valjoux -7750 chronometer. Price was RM 8,500.00 and no discount.

Other model can discount 25%.

But then it is quite difficult to get a Valjoux-7750 movement COSC.

I am tempted.

Some notable mention is the Ball Enginner Hydrocarbon Magnate ETA-2892-2 COSC @ RM 8,050.00 also Limited Edition. I am Salivating.

It seems these COSC Valjoux and 2892 movement are quite difficult to get whereas the 2824 are dim a dozen.

To give reader a sense of comparison, Rolex which is equivalent to ETA-2892/3 chronometer movement is priced around RM 20K above.
