QUOTE(triple02 @ Jan 18 2011, 04:01 PM)
I'd take N'Zogbia over Young any day if given the choice..Young has stagnated at Villa hasnt he? was a world-beater once, probably the managerial change had a detrimental effect on him?

Added on January 18, 2011, 4:03 pm
I think that would only be in effect if he plays in the Dutch league
*
The only reason to go for N'Zogbia is the fee. tongue.gif

QUOTE(leftist @ Jan 18 2011, 04:03 PM)
having a gud physique is an advantage but not a must..fabregas is not that big..same as nasri..most important thing is game intelligence..if u have that, size was juz a small matter nod.gif
*
I wouldn't thinks so, the 1st thing RB did was telling Torres to beef up physically to handle the rough & tumble of BPL.
Even Alonso improves physically compare to when he first arrived.
The worry is, with such slight frame, he'll be shoved of easily by the defenders, prone to injury or even loss of confidence.

QUOTE(cherroy @ Jan 18 2011, 04:04 PM)
And play the whole 90 mins.

When KD made substituition time, everyone taught it would be him to be substituted, who know it was Miereles.
*
Actually think Spearing should be the one taken out as we're chasing the game & from what I saw, he offered next to nothing in the final third.
I'm not slighting him but don't he be better equipped as water carrier role aka Deschamps role? As I noticed he played much higher than Lucas & Meireles. Maybe KD wish him to close down opponents deep in their own half but really, he's limited attacking wise.

QUOTE(madmoz @ Jan 19 2011, 09:27 AM)
the lad never really did find his feet at Liverpool huh? A waste if you ask me, cause he had the talent and the physical attributes.
*
Yeah, always thought he's a great talent with good speed, skills & physique. Damn sure he'll be a world beater by now if Arsenal got him then.

i'm sure you are aware that of all those players you mention, babel is most delicious to any suitor out there
*
Most delicious @ 7mil Euro? Thats like half the price we bought him. Might as well keep him, since the fees not going to help much in pursuing other attackers.

QUOTE(cherroy @ Jan 19 2011, 10:56 AM)
I don't play football manager, so I don't know.  tongue.gif

Wages and age are always a stumbling block for bidders.

What is the contract tenure for both of them?

Added on January 19, 2011, 10:57 am
If want to raise money for transfer window, only a few player could fetch higher value, while those players is a big no no for selling.
*
QUOTE(Petre @ Jan 19 2011, 10:58 AM)
most delicious in terms of age/talent.  nod.gif
*
I'm sure Babel potential & ability far outweight the 7 mil Euros. If selling ard 10mil GBP will be more accurate to his ability/talent.
If only someone in the backroom can harvest those talents.

QUOTE(Petre @ Jan 19 2011, 11:21 AM)
dont play joe cole as a winger, play him alongside gerrard, just behind torres
*
Then the formation will be like christmas tree, too narrow & rigid. Christmas tree or diamond works best if there's a pivot at the base like Xavi, Alonso, Pirlo which we have nil.

QUOTE(Duke Red @ Jan 22 2011, 09:39 PM)
Some two months ago, we were well beaten by Wolves at Anfield. Few can argue that Wolves did not deserve their 3 points. This time round we're deserving of our lead having had more posession and attempts on goal.

Same players, different manager, much better football. Let's hope we take all 3 points.
*
And we wonder why, this ain't Kenny's team either if according to Woy's theory. whistling.gif
I'm bad, to take a dig at Woy even after he left rolleyes.gif

QUOTE(hfi @ Jan 22 2011, 09:43 PM)
Good first half. Wolves up to their usual nonsense, trying to break us down by roughing up our boys. The ref done nothing to clamp this down and made some poor decisions through out.

But we presevered and outplayed them. We looked defensively solid, the back four looking comfortable and Kelly is looking good by each game. Midfield wise, the trio Lucas - Meireles - Poulsen have been quite impressive. Im quite impressed with Poulsen's performance especially. He's been tidy and he supports the attacks quite well.

Upfront, Torres looking sharp and is up for it. He's looking 'happier' on the pitch - he drags everyone everywhere. He's back!

Cant wait for the 2nd half.
*
Yeah the trio quite impressive especially runs by Lucas. Cant believe its the same Lucas I berated couple of seasons ago laugh.gif Even Poulsen looks half decent. laugh.gif
& we wonder why Torres under a '35 years internationally experienced manager' looks lame doh.gif

Poulsen heard our praise, getting complacent for a couple of times by losing the ball cheaply in dangerous position mad.gif

QUOTE(hfi @ Jan 23 2011, 02:41 PM)
There's a lot of positives from that video. The number of passes for me was just icing on the cake. Im impressed that we didnt try to force an open by going for a quick cross or going for corners. Pleased to see we opted to drag them out our their half by making some close quarter passes - enticing them to press us. Its showed patience and control which has been missing in this team for quite some time.

Its a good example that you dont need fancy holywood passes to score goals.  Lucas, for example here was effective in what he does best. He is constantly an outlet in the central mid, providing defensive and offensive support. Take notice on how men in red shirts constantly moving around creating triangles. Look at the fluidity in both Merelies and Lucas movements. Merelies playing in the more advanced midfield role, always trying to expand the triangles. Lucas remained deeper to provide anchor for the triangles. Just simple game of pass and move football.

Video also illustrates why Kuyt is still an important figure in our team. Just look at the amount of ground he covered in this video. He first received the ball on the far right of the pitch but he ended up ghosting at the opposite side of the pitch when he made the run towards the goal. This was the 90th min and you clearly see he was knackered. His desire to keep up with the momentum of the game is why manager after manager persisted in starting him ahead of others.
*
Thats the first & most noticeable thing under KD. Lucas was an constant outlet no matter in defence ir attacks. The 1 touch, pass & move & support from each other were evidence last nite. It showed that football is a simple game made difficult tongue.gif Just loves all those triangle moves rclxms.gif
Makes u wonder how the same set of players cant produce the same display under '35 years experience' Woy whistling.gif

QUOTE(cherroy @ Jan 27 2011, 11:55 AM)
Playing Gerrard at the right can be an option as well.

As compared to the middle, at wing area, he may have more room and free space to utilise, bombarding forwards, cut inside, putting dangerous cross to Torres.
It is much easier penetrate opponent defence from wing area, as compared more direct through middle.
*
Exactly, seeming that we lack pace out wide, this is an option to be explored.
Rmb him bamboozled defence time & again when he's wide, not to mention the great cross that he can conjure up flex.gif
Not to say shove him wide is to belittle him, but rather to optimize the team strength seeing that other CM can play on right. While Meireles can occupy his AM role

Dei if you want to, just do. Don't let anyone or anything stop you barring religion, and your wife! smile.gif

Yeah I thought the interaction between Dalglish and Hughes was funny and nice. King Kenny isn't the sort to get in someone else's face. I think that incident exemplifies the kind of man he is. Testament to the man he is, he now admits that 7th isn't good enough and he's determined to help us finish higher up the table. His sets himself bigger and bigger goals.
*
You got that spot on, Else there's already Liverbird there.
I'll be damn if he said 7th is good enuff ala Woy!!!
King Kenny definitely a gentleman but one never to be crossed nevertheless. I shiver to think if ever he act like Woy when the club being ridicule by its biggest rival.
In a way, he made it realistic by not setting a high target right away which invites all kinda pressure.

QUOTE(Petre @ Jan 27 2011, 03:11 PM)
gerrard has been playing well with torres, feeding him with direct passes or through balls down the middle, its going to be seen as to whether gerrard can be as effective in feeding torres from wide areas

another thing is, iirc, when gerrard starts from the wing area, he tend to leave the RB exposed at time, or perhaps my memory failed me tongue.gif
*
Thats why Johnson can nvr play behind him. Two attacking minded players minding a flank is too risky. Kelly behind him is much more acceptable, form permitting.

15m for suarez is a joke... even cole 20m price tag,,

this is not pes or fifa lah..
*
Cole 20mil is defo a joke but not suarez at 15m. As far as Im concerned 18mil is tops for someone only proven in Dutch League.
Case in point, where's Jan Venegoor of Hesselink, he's a Dutch top scorer for few seasons, end up in bottom reaches of european league. Dun talk abt form in WC as some strikers tend to hit purple patch in certain tourney, rmb Oleg Salenko, after top scored in WC94, cant even established himself as a permanent fixture for a modest european team.

& we're not loaded like some teams, there's no oligarch or oil sheikh behind us, just normal businessmen.

why don't just sell torres?if can get 40 mil for him you can get Suarez+Honda+Young.

That's three solution for liverpool's prob(dysfunctional striker, winger not feeding crosses on frequent basis.on both flanks, even some creativity in the middle)
*
& spend the next 10 years trying to get another suitable striker? Unless he demands to go, I dun see the point in selling him. 40mil now is not a big figure nowaday
