Just watched the video highlights to try to analyse what went right. Obviously the passing has improved. However I felt that the enthusiasm and (almost) urgency with which the players performed last night made a huge difference.
Mereiles has always been running up and down, true to a description of him when he was first bought, that he is "an all action" midfielder in the same mould as Terry McDermott. However, he never seemed to have the 'cooperation' from his team-mates. Last night, he even did a lovely back-heel that was a delight to watch and he could do that because his team-mates were working together with him.
I've always felt that Poulsen was not a bad player - a bit slow perhaps, but experienced and possessing good vision. Perhaps he will go on to improve and become our second Jan Molby.
I think what KD said about the players having to work hard, is the key. One of the hallmarks of the all-conquering Liverpool in the 70s and 80s is the work-rate!
Come on you Reds .. your time has come .. again!

QUOTE(Petre @ Jan 25 2011, 11:02 AM) thats the problem when market is based on loose evaluation while our auntie comolli is using stats... is like you go pasar ikan and bargain with the auntie saying the fish is worth this and that based on length, eye color, gills condition etc etc Our "auntie comolli" was responsible for identifying stars like Gareth Bale and Luka Modric amongst others. He tries to get young players at good value and turn them into prized assets. Reminds me of the mighty Reds whose scouts once identified talents like Emlyn Hughes and Kevin Keegan (and many others) from the backwaters and turned them into household names. Additionally, I love seeing Dalglish giving these youngsters (both homegrown and acquired) their opportunities on the playing field. These are all positives for our team, but of course, there could be hiccups along the way..

It doesn't matter whether Gerrard is played. What is more important is how is Gerrard playing in recent months? Yes, he still scores crucial goals or creates them and that's because of his pedigree. However, my point is that Steven Gerrard has not been in top form.
So, unless KD can work on him effectively, I wouldn't mind seeing him on the bench! (No, don't bash me yet) I'm 90% sure KD won't leave him on the bench but I believe the legend is brave enough to sub him when he's not performing.
Otherwise Gerrard can be a disruption - so many times I've seen Mereiles or Maxi stop short of doing what they had in mind to do, to just roll the ball to Gerrard because he's there .. and he either belts a long ball forward and quickly pass it back.
If Gerrard can be coached/motivated back to top form, I'll be very optimistic of the Reds challenging for the top 4 come April/May.

In recent years I've become quite hardened with the professional football world. There're very, very few players who love the clubs they're at and play with their hearts. More and more are arrogant, greedy and disrespectful.
(One of the reasons for the Mancs' success is because they have more than their fair share of such players : Giggs, Scholes, Neville ..)
50 million is money that Liverpool should NOT refuse. I have reservations about the 42+Anelka deal though - why trade one sulk for another?! I'd say use surplus to buy Adams and groom Ngog to partner Suarez.
With Dalglish's passion for the Reds and his charisma, I'm still optimistic about the Reds' future.
