Havent done anything like that before, but 1 thing come across my mind is.. usually ppl using space under staircase as store room, so "use up the space under staircase" = " smaller your storeroom may be until a space not able to access" = "wasting more space"My house staircase is the old type one with the "lubang" at each step.

so usually the space under staircase will be a close up area and accessable from side staircase as a storeroom.
