Dear sifus,

Hihi! I'm helping a friend to buy a laptop. I was wondering what are the latest/current available options for a RM1.5k 14 inch laptop?
It'll be used for net surfing/ watching movies only. Oh ya, don't want FreeDOS, too much hassle for my friend haha laugh.gif

THank U thank U! The more options the better notworthy.gif

At this price point, mostly will be freeDOS..
Dell Inspiron 14, P6200 + Intel HD, Win 7 HP@RM1599...
*
Oh I see, so the laptops discussed in http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1755182 also FreeDOS 1? hmm.gif
Then how about FreeDOS ones, should have alot for that price range right?

Yup, freeDOS one..
If don't want dedicated GPU, the spec is pretty much the same throughout the model laugh.gif
like the Toshiba C640, Asus X42De, Acer 4253, Acer 4738Z, Inspiron 14, Samsung R429 etc...

If want dedicated, there's Asus A42Jz, P6200 + AT iHD6470, freeDOS@RM1599...
*
Thanks a lot bro! The Asus models are already available or they'll be here with the next shipment? hmm.gif

I'd go for ASUS sweat.gif
Though I'm on the same situation as you are right now, choosing to wait and see price for N43SL or just go for the N43Jf now.
Acer 4820TG I saw some reviews online saying that the screen flexes a lot when opening the lid by one corner.
HP... SquareTrade's recent graph shows in 30k laptops each brand, HP's failure rate is like 30%  blink.gif  Though it is kinda true... HP tx1000au had a graphic card problem where it unsolders itself due to constant heating and cooling. The product was never recalled, and HP denied to fix any of it
The graph also shows that ASUS got number 1 in reliability... :hmmm: Though the graphs proof nothing since it's an insurance company
*
Asus N43Jf will be pretty hard to find now nod.gif
SquareTrade's "recent" survey was done a very long time ago haha laugh.gif
If can find the N43Jf then it would be great, if not, then its either Acer 4820TG or Toshiba Satellite L645-1123/24/25/26 nod.gif
Personally I don't really like the HP G42, especially the poor touchpad and the overall cheap feeling, but that's just me la hehe

I'm looking to buy a new laptop in the region of rm 1.5k-1.6k

i need good specs and most importantly long battery life

and laptops that is recommended????
*
For that price range its virtually impossible to find a good lappy with great specs and long battery life. The closest one would be Acer 3820TG at approx. RM2.1k nod.gif
The one recommended by Marcus is powerful for the price but battery life is average only. Still it depends on how you define your "long battery life" haha laugh.gif

Is there anything like a external battery charger for lappy battery? Just like handphone external charger. Just plug charger + battery, no need plug into lappy to charge.

Something like these?:

If not, try this:

Hi guys, I was wondering whether you guys could give me some recommendations of currently available laptops?
Budget is max. RM2.5k; size 14 inch. Will be used for normal usage only, no gaming at all, dedicated GPU is not needed.. I only know a few models, want to find out if there's more of them nod.gif

Thanks in advance notworthy.gif notworthy.gif

Budget 3k, prefer Asus or Lenovo or something quite light but powerful.

How bout Asus U36JC? Just recommend me anything as long as its not Mac lol. The price is too good for the specs *Sarcasm*
*
Plan to game on your potential laptop? hmm.gif
Preferred size 13 inch?

A bit game, a bit photoshop + LR3 also. No need so extreme coz I wont play max spec.

Prefer light and powerful also, if possible.
*
Then the U36Jc will do just fine nod.gif
But personally I would prefer the U41Jf with a better GPU... the Nvidia G310M in the U36Jc is not exactly very good (even for older games)... I would prefer sacrificing a little bit of portability (U36Jc 1.7kg; u41Jf 2.0kg) for an extra optical drive and power hehe laugh.gif

Can consider the significantly cheaper Acer 3820TG and 4820TG as well nod.gif

LOL, for girl ar? Suddenly thought of Lenovo's Ideapad U460 laugh.gif
Can consider that one as well, its light and powerful but don't have optical drive (14 inch)...
Even though its running on relatively lower specs, the looks alone will melt a girl's heart wub.gif

LOL, don't worry... the "lower spec" is almost similar to that of the U36Jc nod.gif

That lenovo no edicated graphic card lol >_>

It runs on Nvidia G305M nod.gif
The weakest dedicated Nvidia 300 series GPU laugh.gif
It depends on what games she'll be playing lo... Oh ya, there's also the Lenovo Z360 which is also very similar in terms of specs with the U36Jc, just that its 2.0kg instead, and cheaper by around RM500 hmm.gif

long battery life i suppose ,longer than average,,,and specs do not need tobe really good ,decent specs should be ok...is there any other laptops like acer timeline series
*
I don't think so... Acer's 3820/4820TG are the best you can get for that price range laugh.gif
There's Toshiba units with almost similar specs but they are more expensive by ~RM100-200 and does not have such long battery lives as that of the Acers hmm.gif
